Hey there, looks like the trademark MGS close match edition SNV!

In seriousness, Nintendo's is arguably equal or even worse than MGS's. The Boss was losing percentage relative to Sub-Zero in her match during the majority of the SNV, but not Bowser, who continued to tank.

Anyway - spotting Luigi 70% of Ness's votes, it looks like he'd have won with about 52.3% of the vote here in a day match. Why is this important? Well, you might recall a little match once upon a time remarkably similar to that in the noon to midnight EST hours: Snake/Bowser.

I know everyone's blaming Ness for this result - and fair enough. But BB/Luigi is one of the most lop-sided day/night match scenarios possible - the conditions suck for both, really.

When did this happen, anyway? Kirby always used to be assumed to be on the low end of the midcard if even that. Lost to Bowser and to Luigi in the early days...would that still be the case? I'm not sure. But if you can honestly say that Kirby "has a chance next round", you'd have to think that an un-LFFed Luigi would also have a chance at pulling whatever upset you're talking about.

That said...Kirby doesn't stand a chance next round. Kirby and Sephiroth went at it for two rounds in 2008, and they actually did split, but with an asterisk--Kirby's "win" over Sephiroth came with Cloud in the poll. Granted, Sephiroth's win over Kirby came with Sonic in the poll (and frankly, Kirby beating Sonic was a huge upset, and an apparent fluke given that Sonic got revenge in 2010 and took the rubber match in Rivalry Rumble), but it was a blowout. I'm not really sure which one Big Boss would hurt more--Big Boss has more console overlap with Sephiroth, but if he gets another Naked Snake pic his resemblance to Solid Snake could give him Brawl SFF--but either way, it's minor, and Kirby needs Sephiroth to be majorly anchored.

For the record:
Kirby vs. Sephiroth with Snake and Cloud in the poll: 58.46% directly
Sephiroth vs. Kirby with Sonic and Dante in the poll: 62.5% directly

...Actually, it's interesting...Kirby's raw votes were almost identical in the two matches. I...guess that makes sense because theoretically Sonic and Snake should have a similar effect on Kirby, since both of them only share Brawl with Kirby. Still, I'm going to copy-paste this over to Contest Stats and Discussion...

Sonic's supposed to overlap with Nintendo more, though, isn't he? Can Sonic not hurting Kirby any more than Snake possibly be right? Here's the full copy-paste from Kirby's Contest History on the wiki.

I don't think Crash will get Pac-man factored that badly. I think all the drama surrounding how he got snubbed from PASBR has shown that there are people who legitimately like him and he doesn't get votes purely on recognition. I guess it's against Sephiroth but Spyro didn't completely die in the face of a more recognizable character. Also, after Big Daddy and Booker's performances, it seems likely that our initial impression of Poison being weak was correct and Elizabeth is also very weak.

This. Crash's competition is probably better than Elizabeth's.

Basically, so far, if you think that Crash can put up 40% on Spyro, you have to seriously consider Kirby>Sephiroth.
