Shepard's US percentage relative to Aeris has gone up quite a bit, but not nearly as much overall. stuffing again?

I don't care about Aeris's name itself(if you go back through the topic you'll see that I refer to her as Aeris, so whatever). I just want to correct misconceptions about romanizing from the Japanese language. A name using an s doesn't necessarily mean it's logical to use an S in romanization.

creativename posted...

I already linked to the .ogg file from wiki where her name is pronounced, and it is definitely not Aerisu, Earisu, or Aerith. It very clearly sounds like Aeris in Japanese.

That's good for you, but it's Earisu. This isn't even a debate. It's a fact. It's right there in writing and Japanese isn't exactly a language with flexible pronunciation. You read what you see.

You've lost me - how in the world would that be a moot point? If it's impossible to say Aerith in Japanese, then it's pretty clear that Aerith is not her Japanese name.

By that logic, would you argue Sephiroth is "Sephiros" because that's how it's pronounced in Japanese too? Since "Sephiroth" is impossible to say as well.

The Japanese spelling for Sepiroth is more like "Sefirosu", just like the spelling for Aeris is "Aerisu". The spelling is misleading though because this is not how the words are pronounced.

Sephiroth is a Hebrew word anyway.

Which should actually be Sefirot. Just like Aerith = Earth. Square took a bit of license with their naming.

Not quite. Even though the common Hebrew pronunciation is a "T" sound, the proper academic spelling of the word would be "Sephiroth". I don't know whether it's intentional or not, but they got it right.

After the really big Shepard spikes he seems to have settled down to going roughly even. Generally a sign of rallying.

Aerith would do well to hold this until the ASV, but at this point, it's only a matter of time until the bucket tips in Shep's favor. The healer is playing a losing game. Would have won a night match though!

Man Aeris hasn't even lost the lead yet, I don't see this match being over at all. Who knows how the trends might shape out, we've got a mini-ASV coming up and everything.

Overestimated Shep here or underestimated FF7... how strong do we think this performance makes Shepard?

...more importantly, whaddya think Shepard 2013 gets on Shepard 2010?

you know what I'm getting at

I'm not sure how "timeless" a character Shepard will end up being. Remember that ME3 was enjoying (though perhaps "enjoying" is not the best word) tons of attention months after its release. If we have another Character Battle 12 or 18 months from now, I might take the whole crew to be a sliver weaker.

And Aerith fights back.

This really all depends on whether Aerith dies once the ASV hits. If she doesn't and can keep stalling and getting some cuts then she could easily come back with the SNV.

This. I feel that the Mass Effect series as a whole, despite gaining in popularity on this board, is gradually fading from the limelight. Mass Effect 3, and all of Bioware's last few games being so controversial, do not help matters.

Heck, within a year and a half of Mass Effect 2's release it was considered to be an improved sequel, then more and more started to consider Mass Effect 1 to be the superior game and the best in the series, seemingly coinciding with the release of Dragon Age II (which I heard tried to do the same thing as ME2, but got lots of hate as a result). That's what I've seen anyway. Still, I think it's plausible that ME2 is going the way of TP/Brawl/MGS4 in terms of games that made a huge impact on release but gradually started fading and drawing more hate as time went by.

Aerith is projected to beat Shep by 2% in 2010, and Shep is projected to get 40% on Auron. Adjusting Pikachu to be two points above Fox's level or so and ignoring those stats, Shep was comparable with Ike in 2010. So Aerith either dropped like a rock to the 26% range, Shepard boosted to her level, or both. They're probably worth around 28% on Base Link now.

I won't deny that he's a favorite (especially after that update), but FF7 usually does better and better as the match goes on too... though Aeris doesn't really look like she's had proper FF7 trends this match. Huh.

If we peg Shep at around Ike's level in 2010, his 2010 xstat value gives about that number when you do comparisons. I...could believe this, honestly. Shep being 30% on BL legit now seems believable.

The fact that Shepard is even beating a FFVII character speaks volumes. He's come a long way since his 2008 Debut. I'd take him to crush Master Chief. Probably the strongest Western Character now.

Honestly this looks better for FF7 to me than worse. I didn't even expect Aeris to be in the match, and she's built a case that she should be favored in a night or perhaps even a 24 hour poll.
