Whoa. People seriously think that being able to stomp Magikarp means Mega Man's a threat to pull some huge upset later on? I mean, I'd love this upset more than anyone--I decided to try out the "best (according to popular opinion)" game in the series and it totally sucked--but seriously. It's Magikarp. That 27-seed poll doesn't mean anything. Mega had a better chance of losing in Round 2 than in round 1, and I don't think anyone's taking him to lose in Round 2 unless they're deluded enough to believe Red Bird is going to be worth something (hint: he'll struggle just to get second place in round 1). ...You know what, that would be more fun to talk about than this awful match. Who you got for second tomorrow night, Red Bird or the Mayor of Earth, Mike Haggar? --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. You will be missed. |

I'm
pretty impartial (lost bracket aside) to Magikarp here. On the one
hand he's the best joke we've had-- on the other we've had so many
jokes that the whole idea is kinda stale at the moment. Also Mega Man
is the only NN aside from maybe Seph that I'd legit feel sorta bad for
getting tossed under the bus. Dude's had it rough lately in contest and

I'm pretty sure Tetris would get rocked at any point it went against
any strong entrant. Tetris is basically to games what Pac-Man is to

I didn't, for example. I put a crazy amount of time into RBY and like none of it was spent using Gyarados. It's been years since I've played a Pokémon game and I still remember the lineup I used, something like Starter, Dragonite, Eeveelution, Martial Arts Master or Snorlax, Kadabra/Alakazam/Mewtwo, and then whatever I felt patched the holes in my party at the time (big fondness for the ghosts in particular though). Gyarados didn't even rate compared to all of those. Why would I take a fake dragonfish that requires an enormous amount of time spent leveling a worthless fish when I could just spend all that time getting a real, badass dragon instead? You're totally gonna get people telling you about how a friend told them about the superleveled pokemon, the broken save files and the infinite items during one of their school breaks or on the bus trip from or back to home. A lot of people probably voted for Missingno out of the sheer absurdity of its presence too, but I can see the reasons why someone would fondly recall learning about him. It happened to me, after all. |

have good memories of Missingno and Magikarp. The Missingno glitch was
amazingly cool when I was younger, and I've trained a bunch of Magikarps

voted for Missingno three times last contest because he was against
three worthless characters. Crono? Yoshi? Sephiroth? I'll take my
Missingno glitch memories over those guys, thanks. I'd easily vote
Magikarp over them too. The second Missingno hit an actual good

Draven's cool, but the reason I'd like him to pull off a shocker (contest unpredictability and potential for higher votals in subsequent matches from people sticking around aside) is because he's the entrant who acts a stand-in for a game and a company I really like and who got several other companies to step up their game in the process of becoming both hugely successful and well liked. If the board decided that it'd be cool for Magikarp to do this out of pure love for RBY and Nintendo, I'd be considerably less grumpy about it. That's something I can respect. Voting because you buy into the board's hivemind hype feedback loop is less respectable. |

Yeah
I know plenty of Pokemon players and that glitch isn't really a huge
talking point. It's just one of those weird stories that you talk about
more than a mind blowing thing. Magikarp is easily more appreciated by actual Pokemon people. Magikarp evolving into the biggest baddest dragon mother early in the game when it was the most worthless thing ever is way more mindblowing than some weird M'¶¶ŁĄŮŘ˝© thing --- No problem! Yeah
I'd have disliked a Magikarp victory here (same reasons that most have
stated... Mega Man's just had it rough, rip MML3). But it has some
reason for people to like it and it being funny, the fact that a Pokemon
specifically designed to be worthless can become something so
intimidating. It winning the board vote for 3 minutes isn't really that
notable, especially since the rest of the site doesn't really seem to
feel the same way and it's gonna look pretty bad here relative to Geno,

for the record: Now that Magikarp is getting bodied as it should've,
I'm much more happy with it. I wouldn't mind seeing it return and maybe
wow us by defeating somebody...just not a gaming icon. We shouldn't
expect him to do that, nor want him to do that just for the sake of surprising results. |

call the Missingno glitch in RBY more impactful on my playing
experience than getting Epona was. If Missingno's a joke, so's Epona!

Consider me highly skeptical that Draven would actually drive vote totals that weren't BS. It might be able to rally against garbage entrants, but against MMX/Ryu it likely isn't going to drive up the votes much, and any non-stuffed votes will be voting for MMX or Ryu at least at a 50% rate. No way do legit votes not vote for MMX and Ryu in large numbers. Any votes that go almost 100% for Draven are almost certainly stuffing and nothing more. think I might be one of the more anti-joke character people here, but
Magikarp just strikes me as one of the more "benign" cases. Putting
Epona and Magikarp on the same level as L-Block and Missingno just seems
weird to me. Draven is a weird case where I'm opposed to it just
because seeing turbofodder willed to win by outside forces isn't
