The thing is, Cecil is not up to his 2010 level here. I blame the pic.

We don't have a good read on Knuckles. It could easily be Knuckles having fallen off a lot.

That being said, this is still another great showing from Cecil - he's far from his tripled by Kirby days. It just might be a far more amazing one from Wrex.

Games =/= characters. Meta Knight is probably the only character not in Melee that people would care about from Brawl.

But he was talking about Melee being more popular than Brawl.

Oh, I agree with you on that. We have no evidence on this site for Melee being more popular than Brawl. But I think he was right on character strengths from those games. Melee made a lot of old characters far more popular by featuring them. Brawl, not so much. If they weren't in Melee, Brawl didn't give much of a boost, with the exception of Meta Knight.

But Melee was always far more influential in terms of contest strength. No question there, and it probably was never close.

I don't think Melee had any more of an effect. That one Ice Climber was pretty lackluster, and Mewtwo probably gets much more of his strength from RBY than Smash (especially if you're of the opinion that Red benefits much more from RBY pics than Brawl ones). Plus Roy would suck from having Lucas-level exposure, and G&W's performance wasn't spectacular.

I don't really see how Melee and Brawl can boost characters in different levels. I think both would have the same effect, and if not, I'd lean toward the game with much more exposure.

KH, I'm a bit puzzled regarding your views on Mordin. The Otacon of ME? I've beaten the series like a half dozen times and am not sure where that comparison comes from. Mordin is loved by the fanbase and is a pretty big badass. He's not a quivering nerd, but a borderline psychotic scientist who both serves as comic relief and has arguably the most powerful moment in the series.

Otacon is loved by the MGS fanbase too, don't get it twisted. But it's a niche appeal through and through. Same thing with Mordin. Borderline psychotist scientist spells NERD, and that archetype doesn't do well here, whatever its similarities to the actual voterbase may be. He is weak, weak, weak, and I don't understand why anyone would have considered otherwise.

Be. My. Guest.

I'm not doing it. I honestly have gotten the feeling that Brawl, Twilight Princess, and Metal Gear Solid 4 have all gradually gotten weaker and weaker as the years have progressed.

For example: in the Game of the Generation poll, Twilight Princess got around the same percent on Brawl as it did in their Game of the Decade match, but did a full 10% worse against Super Mario Galaxy than in that contest. Similarly, prior to that contest every time Brawl and Galaxy were in the same poll Galaxy got SFFd badly, while in the GOTG poll I think Brawl struggled to break 55% on Galaxy.

So there. TP/Brawl losing their SFF power over a weaker game on their own console has to mean them weakening.

Kid Icarus was somewhat big in the NES days, though I don't know if anyone actually liked it since the game was awkward to play and rather difficult.

Then again, bringing back the Ice Climbers for Melee made little sense either. At least Pit was from a better game.

But Mordin is not a meek nerd; he does justice to the stereotype. Guy can more than hold his own in a fight and is quick to anger and turn violent. Remember all the bodies he positioned outside his clinic as a warning to the local gangs? That ain't Otacon...

Mordin is the first character you get in ME2 and plays a crucial role in both that game and ME3 (bigger than Wrex). He gets great scenes, tons of development, and powerful moments in both. I'd definitely take him over Wrex in a match and think the krogan is (very luckily) benefiting from some weak competition here. Mordin would win this match too, but I sure wouldn't take Wrex over Epona.

The ME series is a real good shot in the arm for this contest. Two strong midcarders in Garrus and Wrex, and Shepard may be a near-elite now or at least close to it. We can probably wring another low midcarder out of Liara and *maybe* Tali.

A pity it went out like it did, or we could expect even bigger and better things!
