Other possibilities: Somehow getting Brawl a pic with the Nintendog on the screen. Brawl + DogFAQs how many games can still win?

Speaking of games contests, I *REALLY* don't want division by eras again... Gods, that just leads to boatloads of boring matches, especially in the earlier parts of the bracket.

My claim that Corvo was going to be trash mainly comes from my theory on games from 2012 I've brought up off and on: no new character from 2012 has looked worthwhile...

--Tiny Tina, Face McShooty, and Handsome Jack were from last year's GotY.
--Dunban, Reynolds, and Shulk were from last year's runner-up for GotY.
--Lee and Clementine were from last year's fourth place-game.
--Palutena and Hades were from a game that lost to New Super Mario Bros. Wii U.
--Draven, Peacock, Kat, Vaas, and Corvo were also introduced in 2012.

...their games also stink strength-wise, according to BL2...

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/4962

...and I'll also throw in that no returning character from Playstation All-Stars showed convincing signs of a boost yet; Dante and Drake are the best arguments so far, and they had other games since we last saw them in 2010. They're not newcomers, but that's at least a new kind of exposure.

It's like GameFAQs skipped nearly everything in 2012 except ME3 (which was notoriously divisive), so color me unimpressed about anybody stomping Corvo.

I don't see why you would assume something so ridiculous and pointless. Yeah they're close in the 2010 X-stats, but Tails got blessed by being under Charizard, and Ocelot got cursed by being under someone who got SFF'd by Link. People who are under Sonic are also underrated in the stats.

The best bonus match IMO would be Dark Link vs a couple characters who missed this bracket, but should be stable.

For example Ken.

That way we get a read on Dark Link, and this contest is unaffected.

Most of the posts in my topic seem to support Chester/Tanner/Jay Solano. That match is in the running for less than 20000 votes in a day match.

To put that into perspective, we had 3 non-contest day polls earlier this year that all broke 20000 votes:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5092
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5113
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5115

Poll 5092 - 24545 votes in a poll that started at 1:42 PM EST and ran for 10 hours, 18 minutes. The poll was put up during the middle of a Microsoft presentation of the Xbox One.
Poll 5113 - 20489 votes in a poll that started at 2:06 PM EST, right after Microsoft's E3 presentation ended.
Poll 5115 - 21811 votes in a poll that started at 10:46 AM EST, right after Nintendo's E3 "Nintendo Direct" presentation.

Actually, each region in England shows the same percentage because it is showing the results for England as a whole. Those polls happened during a time when Bacon's Geolocation software tracked England as a whole. Starting with Poll 4961, Bacon's Geolocation software no longer tracks England as a whole because of an update to his software.

When I asked Bacon to update every poll before Poll 4961 to show the actual percentages for each of England's regions, he told me it would take too much effort to fix this.

I don't know why people thought Sissel had a chance at doing anything other than finishing dead last here. I guess people don't realize how few people actually played Ghost Trick. It's seriously got to have one of the lowest playrates on this site. Maybe only Chester would be worse among contest entrants in terms of how few people have played his game.

I mean, we already saw what Ghost Trick's natural strength was before the contest even began!

Also, the Wario match will go down as "The match nobody remembers" because not only did it follow an all-time classic that was riddled with controversy, it featured three characters most people don't know or care about. There was practically no discussion about this match at all since everyone was still wrapped up with Tidus/Missingno. Plus, it was a boring match that was over in the first minute anyway.

I find it hard to believe Missile in Phoenix Wright eating Larry Butz's hot dogs in a throwaway scene is a big enough moment to beat Kerrigan, especially when Missile is actually only seen through a photograph in the Court Record.

Red destroys his competition, but you can't help but think that's because Corvo and Sissel are just that bad. Corvo at least does his job by easily beating the character from Ghost Trick. Red looking good going into round two.

Round 1, Match 71

(7) Pit
(12) Urdnot Wrex
(21) Cecil Harvey

Minor Square vs. minor Mass Effect vs. minor Nintendo makes for a debatable match. Pit is like many other characters that draw their strength primarily from Smash, in that their true strength has always been obscured by SFF. Though even being as generous as possible, he would still have been thrashed by Ryu Hayabusa based on his 2008 performance. Since then he's had Kid Icarus 3DS, which is largely why he's back. He has a pretty big range, but I think only the very tip of it would leave him with favourable odds of winning through here.

Cecil used to be worthless, but has been part of the Old Square renaissance that's continued into this contest. He came close to pulling off what would surely have been one of the least expected results ever against Knuckles, and would probably have done so if he'd drawn a night match. Knuckles went on to get 32% against Sonic directly, which suggests Cecil's worth at least as much and probably more since it's hard to imagine there wasn't significant SFF there. Those numbers would put him a little below the likes of Vivi or Rikku, and probably ahead of Donkey Kong. I feel like it's asking a lot of Pit to get to that level.

Urdnot Wrex is the wildcard here. He's expected to be substantially weaker than Garrus, who held up well against Sub-Zero, and should probably fold to a respectable third for a minor character from a recent western series in a poll against both Square and Nintendo. From what I can tell he wasn't a member of Shepard's team in ME2, by far the strongest of the games, and that makes me worried about his chances. If one of his opponents completely flops he might sneak second, but that's about all I can see.

So, give me Cecil narrowly over Pit, with Wrex a distant third.

Bracket: Cecil
Expert: Cecil > Pit > Wrex
Oracle: Cecil - 41%; Pit - 36%; Wrex - 23%
