Hey, Amaterasu's chances are non-zero if Tidus can slip through! Still think Squall takes it pretty easy but that's a match worth watching.

I'd honestly never allow myself to feel at comfort against MissingNo. of all things, regardless of his performance.

But they hail from the same era, Banjo takes most of his strength from Nintendo and I wouldn't be surprised if he was more beloved by tons than a glitch.

Well, no, you shouldn't feel comfortable, but that's due to shadier things that overlap.

What I'm saying is that for this match in particular, overlap can't really explain it, or even approach a minor reason. Missingno is expected to more than double Tidus based on the 2010 stats. Since that's clearly not relevant, any overlap is pure speculation because we have no idea how weak Missingno 'should' be.

I think nobody believed MissingNo. to have the legit strength to take on any of the characters he beat or Sephiroth. When you take out his joke value, which seems to have mostly gone, you deal with his base old school Pokémon entrant strength, and I'd imagine Banjo having at least some impact on that.

Damn, Tidus is gaining percentage in the US. That's not good for Missingno as he needs North America to pull out a win.

Yeah, this is what Alucard did with Falcon. He didn't win the US, but he narrowed that gap considerably. Geolocation isn't everything guys <_<

I like how Captain Falcon mirrors joke character trends, he really is just a pawwwnch meme to people on this site.

Did Falcon have those trends last contest? Against Cloud I remember that being the case, but...that was Cloud, and in a night match no less.

Still can't believe that three characters that lost in the first round this contest made it to round 3 in our last one.

Falcon doesn't have joke trends. One look at any of his other matches with Alucard (they've had several before this year) will show you that he's a Smash character through and through.

It's a rationalization of what happened this year.

I was rooting for Tidus so hard, then I remembered that I have Missingno in Round 3. Oops.

I originally had Tidus beating Missingno too, but then I thought that Tidus and Squall are probably the worst possible characters to take advantage of anti-joke votes. Apparently people would rather support vocally hated (if still popular) FF heroes over joke entrants. Not that I'm complaining, at least for any reason other than my bracket.

I'm still rooting for you Tidus! Don't worry! Now just you wait, Missingno will catch a late...

...hold on a sec, it seemed like Crono was coming back for the longest while and then Missingno caught a late rally to put him to rest for good. So hopefully the exact same happens here! If this is legit strength though, Missingno is toast against Squall next round.

Eh Captain Falcon does kinda have joke trends actually. The first round against Alucard in 2008 he dropped 4% from the end of the Power Hour till the end of the match and didn't really gain percentage in any block (though he stopped dropping when the ASV came he didn't really do anything with it) Next round against him he dropped 2%.

I'm not saying what Alucard did was legitimate but it probably was closer to legitimate than it looked. Falcon's best block has always been the beginning of the poll with no real strength anywhere else.

I'm not saying he's not a Power Hour character, but he's no more 'jokey' than Mega Man or Crono is. Definitely not joke trends - you know those when you see 'em.

So I woke up,voted for Tidus and I am surprised.I didn't think that this match would be so close. Not even 100 votes so far.So that means that Missigno has gotten a lot weaker,I don't believe that Tidus has gotten stronger.

Oh damn Tidus is doing great.

Too bad we pretty much know that the glitch's "clutch" (read: stuffing) will bail him out.

Of course with Bacon suddenly watching stuffing like a hawk, Tidus may actually have a chance here.

The morning vote might bury him anyway...but I'm not sure how strong Missingno's morning vote actually is without stuffing.

He's not all out joke trends but he's closer to them than he is Mega Man or Crono. Mega Man or Crono sometimes finish the poll about the same place they finish the power hour through gains and losses in other blocks. Captain Falcon reliably finishes several percent lower. Honestly 2008 L-Block looked less jokey than Captain Falcon does. It's only 2007 L-Block that does the trainwreck thing. Look at 2008 WCC and you'll see he drops off less than Captain Falcon does over the course of the match.

The site is moving away from it's "badass" obsession in characters as the userbase grows older, just as it ditched its inhibitions on on Squall for being "emo" or Pikachu/Mario for being "kiddy" it's learning to appreciate characters more from games it likes that don't have that one formerly worshipped trait and feeling jaded at the immaturity of the others, who were really designed as teenage bait.
If you're taking from this that "oh I guess FF is ok after all" you're making a mistake. Vincent, Sephiroth (and Zack) especially will go on to have dreadful contests, I guarantee. Squall and Cloud will be underwhelming, Tidus,Zidane, old square and female characters (bar maybe Lightning who knows) will look fine.

Ha, Missingno never has a match that isn't close. Doesn't matter who the opponent is.

It's 8:30 here in New Brunswick, which means it's 7:30 on the US East Coast. I don't think I've seen a match were I was ahead of ET in time zone, so it's a bit disorienting. Well, the morning vote should start with the next hour or 2, and that should favor Missingno. He did beat Yoshi with the ASV by a wide margin.

I understand this is probably a bit facetious, but we said this about Frog right up until he got curbstomped by Samus. Missingno is just this weak now.

Wouldn't take last contest's Missingno trends for much of anything, either, other than perhaps the roughest of guidelines.

I'm taking Missingno's trends from the Yoshi match and his vote in match. In both, he had classic Nintendo/Pokemon trends (plus a healthy dose of joke vote early power in the vote-in, which was 24 hours). His trends against Crono and Sephiroth looked to be mostly the product of massive rallying/bandwagoning/stuffing.
