A very swingy hour punctuated by some really stunning Tidus spikes ends with Tidus +65.

On the one hand, Tidus is well, well ahead of Alucard's pace to win this match and upset Missingno in stunning fashion.

On the other, if you're anything like me, you have probably concluded that Tidus may not be quite the unparalleled champion with the day vote as ALUCARD, and thus his window is tightening quickly. Doesn't help that he has brackets and history almost universally against him.

I don't see Tidus pulling this off. He can take the lead, but going by the map, Missingno. is going to use NA to its advantage in the morning. Plus joke rallies and all that. This match reminds me of http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Weighted_Companion_Cube_vs_Tidus_vs_Donkey_Kong_vs_Tails_2008

Captain Falcon had North America firmly in his corner about now - comparable to this, at the time, though it ended up narrowing - but when the daylight hours hit Alucard's hours just got better and better. Geolocation isn't the be-all end-all.

Now, Tidus being meh in the day and Pokemon being good, that should be more concerning.

like Smash and Castlevania- oh, you get the joke

The difference is, Alucard had brackets. Tidus only has the hopes of people who think glitches really shouldn't be in a character battle.

The bigger red flag than MissingNo's vote intake jumping around is that the vote intake is much higher than it should be given the time of night. We've been consistently idling at about 10-20 votes taken in per 5 over what would be expected at this time given the vote total right now.

To put it in some perspective:
Link's match vote intake from 4:00->5:00: 1567 votes (it had 15552 votes total at 5:00)
This one from 4:00->5:00: 1593 votes (it had 14405 votes total at 5:00)
Phoenix Wright's match vote intake from 4:00->5:00: 1477 (it had 14485 votes total at 5:00)

PW's match was on the same day of the week too so that throws that intangible out.

Just sayin. It's interesting stuff!

Well, I mean. I don't think either character looks 'innocent' here.

We've got Missingno putting Ghana and Tidus putting Sudan and Mongolia on the map. Edit: Ignore that last part, it was a small number.

It should be interesting to see what happens next match, no matter who wins. Missingno could still be wonky and give Squall a close match, he could not be wonky anymore and have a clean loss, or we might have a good match between Squall and DogFAQs thanks to Tidus LFF (or between Squall and Tidus because Ama LFFs Squall because of both being in video games).

Nah, that ain't it. Auron is the most powerful non FF7 character after Squall, and he's nearly equal to him.

And yes Auron would still be that strong as a protagonist, at the very least.

And yeah uh I think people are forgetting exactly how ridiculous the TDZ is for FF characters. Cloud, who isn't even really close to Link anymore, still beats on him regularly during this time period. The fact that Missingno isn't getting flat out wasted right now should be considered very impressive for it.

Who wants more statistics I know I do!

5:00->6:00 vote intake

This match: 1436 votes (total 15841)
Link's match: 1404 votes (total 16956)
Phoenix Wright's match: 1331 votes (total 15816)

So basically between this hour and last we can assume about 100 "extra votes" per hour or so.

I think they're all going to Banjo myself why does he have 19%

Missingno is starting to make spikes this hour, but that can't make up for a really bad Tidus +74 session last hour. Tidus still ahead of where Alucard was at this point relative to the lead.

Yeah, Tidus and Missingno's percent has been moving but Banjo's doesn't seem to be. That doesn't seem like it would be in line with unnatural stuffing for just one or two sides.

Unless Banjo would usually be going up here instead! Dat Banjo night vote

There's really no use in calling for Missingno/Banjo overlap. If Missingno is so friggin' weak that overlap with Banjo would put him within striking range of this contest's perennial whipping boy, Tidus, he's gonna get blown off the face of the earth by Squall next round even if he can squeak by.

I'd honestly never allow myself to feel at comfort against MissingNo. of all things, regardless of his performance.

But they hail from the same era, Banjo takes most of his strength from Nintendo and I wouldn't be surprised if he was more beloved by tons than a glitch.

#247 | Lopen | Posted 8/12/2013 3:23:41 AM | message detail
In all seriousness Banjo probably would be going up normally just because of MissingNo's joke trends. Tidus of course would be going up more but yeah.

But yeah Banjo doesn't actually really have trends. If you look at his past matches he's never really shifted at all in any block.

Also Banjo MissingNo overlap is part of why I took Tidus here! I think there might be something to it. I mean of course the most was joke character drop off but if either character is getting disproportionately hurt here it's MissingNo.

Well, no, you shouldn't feel comfortable, but that's due to shadier things that overlap.

What I'm saying is that for this match in particular, overlap can't really explain it, or even approach a minor reason. Missingno is expected to more than double Tidus based on the 2010 stats. Since that's clearly not relevant, any overlap is pure speculation because we have no idea how weak Missingno 'should' be.
