Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1102

It's not so much a correlation as it is proof that stuffing *is* possible, and to such a degree that unless votes are manually removed you can add thousands of votes to our polls. That casts a very large shadow over Draven's match (as well as many others over the years) because the trends were extremely aberrant, and not what you'd expect even from a 'normal' rally.

that should give a big clue whether it was legit or not

Unlike most matches,I think Europe had more votes than America...so the Europe map is going to be in huge favor of Draven and I don't think anyway can call it weird (and Allen said himself most votes came from Europe reddit)

And there have been some extremely phony finishes to matches we've had over the years. Frog/Axel, Alucard/Liquid, Crono/Vincent II, Snake/Sephiroth BR and heck, let's throw in Snake/Cloud/Sephiroth/Kirby! You can bet Snake wouldn't have lost last contest if he were put in Samus's position either.

Extremely unlikely the Draven match had more votes from Europe than the US. Even in a night match, the US can still manage at least 50% of the votes. Europe usually gets between 16% and 20% of the votes in a night match.

Assuming the Draven match finished with 29000 votes and 50% of them came from the US, while 18% came from Europe, that means 14500 votes from the US and 5220 votes from Europe. Draven got about 10000 rallied votes and if they all came from Europe, that still barely puts Europe ahead of the US in total votes. Obviously not all the rallied votes came from Europe - there were a lot of votes from Australia and New Zealand, plus votes from Asia and South America. There were also a lot of rallied votes from the US and Canada. The US had around 22% for Draven prior to the start of the rally, so there were a lot of votes from the US to push Draven up to 31.61%.

The world map maybe has something to do with why we're getting so many suspicious matches this year that we haven't had in a long time. The original reason for showing updates instead of live voting was to make it difficult for stuffers to see if they were being successful or not. The live map sort of makes that redundant since you can hone in on your area and see if the percentages are going up quickly or not.

The poll map updates about every 10 minutes, so it doesn't update automatically in real time. But yeah, it seems like the poll map has made it easier for vote stuffers to see if their attempts are working. So if someone knows they have a bunch of proxies from China, they can use the poll map to monitor China's percentage and figure out if their proxy votes are being counted.

Yeah it's pretty dumb that Bacon is stepping in to stop Touhou stuffing when there has clearly been plenty of it in matches that have actually influenced the winner so far. (even if you give Marisa all her stuffed votes back she still doesn't quite win)

Draven and Alucard being the big two. Alucard was probably just glossed over and I think Draven was intentionally left there to draw the reddit rally next round. Missile probably influenced second place, too.

I do think that it's most likely that the admins just haven't caught what stuffing has been going on for the most part over the years... or when it's finally located the results have already been long finalized. YMMV, but hey, it's one of those things that at least I account for when making my bracket. Don't count on FF7 to win any 50/50 matches, people!

It's a conspiracy that's true. Devin Morgan found "nothing suspicious" about the votes? A child could find something suspicious about the vote intake for that match. The fact that the US has Jak winning 41-31% is a big red flag considering in spite of a large Euro userbase reddit is still primarily a US based site and assuming a true rally you'd expect the proportion to be more balanced than that.

The other theory is that the vote stuffing was a bit more savvy in that match and since votes have to be manually removed they didn't want to go through the trouble of scouring the world and just ignored it out of laziness. Could see either being true with this site's administration actually.

At the risk of melodrama, isn't there a chance of a lawsuit if you lose out on the prize because stuffing was allowed to stand? Especially in the US? Or am I missing some disclaimer? Seems a risk, especially given how transparent voting is these days (what with geolocation and all)

Not only is there a disclaimer, but mounting that kind of a lawsuit would be... infeasible to understate it. For such a petty amount of cash the threat is effectively zero.

Also, can we add the Toowho characters to the list of things to never nominate again? If you struggle (and fail) to get second place against turbofodder with massive stuffing, you don't desserve to be in the contest.

And with that video someone linked in the last topic, it looks like the Toowho fanbase is on par with Bronies as far as people who deserve to be removed from the genepool.

Another problem with "catching Draven" is that he actually won the match so for him to win in some countries is not weird at all
Of course getting like 80%+ of the votes from a certain country while having more than 100 votes from this country can be weird...but it's less weird than doing it when you are losing with 10-15%

Most of her votes are spread across Europe as per the other two and indeed as with Draven.
Missile might have been pure rallying but Reimu seems like a case of changing the goalposts for what constitutes stuffing mid-contest. Who knows what happened with Draven, Alucard etc but I don't think these standard were being applied then.

If votes are spread out then that implies that there is *not* rallying. Cirno's and Marisa's votes were concentrated in a couple of regions. That's how we knew it was stuffing. Unless the people allegedly stuffing for Draven went to the effort of using proxy servers in every different German state, then a spread out Geolocation result implies a rally.

The match I remember where i thought there was blatant stuffing going on was when frog did some ridiculous come back in the final hour against Axel, I remember that one well since I had Axel there almost no one else did.

Crono gets more votes in his final updates than Samus does in any update, all match? Noooooooo problem!

Allen hates FF7 confirmed

Maybe FF7 hasn't deboosted after all, it was just Allen taking out votes on the low

in fact, Tifa was the only FF7 character who looked great all first round, cuz Allen was too busy taking away votes from Cirno
