Yeah, I'd say that someone is vote stuffing again.

I voted for Adam Jensen to secure my expert, so don't blame me for my region being full of vote stuffers!

This is..stupid
Marisa needs 16 votes over Adam per update to pass him
Her average ever since the lead peaked at 1242 is 22 per update
If she continue like this and it's legit and not stuffing...well..

So, I've actually changed to Guybrush > Max Payne in Expert Challenge. I think Ganon is going to destroy this poll, and it leaves those rabid Guybrush fans the perfect opportunity to edge out a character nobody has cared about in years, much the same Monkey Island did in that SMB3 match years ago.

But it just feels so wrong.

Guybrush isn't going to do as well during a day match, and he's going to need more than the 9.73% Monkey Island needed to advance with Mario 3 that year. Ganon's not going to do THAT well.

Still, I feel like the only reason we're favoring Max is name recognition (and I do mean name recognition, picture recognition isn't going to do him anything with what he has in his pic), and the fact that Max looks better in stats that are nearly a decade old. We haven't even seen this dude since 2004, and the characters that would probably mirror him in trends are GTA characters, and that doesn't give me any confidence in him at all.

Max has still had a recent game, though, and that should be enough to give him the edge over Guybrush Threepwood, whose peak was probably 2010 considering his series got new life breathed into it.

I wonder what feels right to vote for...maybe "Creeper"? Oh, Missingno! This is a character with depth!

Anyways, Guybrush makes me nostalgic, I do miss "Graphic Adventures" even tough they are not THAT graphic compared to current RPG's, but they do had great puzzles.

People on this site don't know twenty-year-old PC characters? I'm shocked!

e: Makes you wonder how much better he'd do if his games were around during the time where he could actually benefit from GameFAQs being around to give you answers, though the remakes/Tales of games might have helped with that a tiny bit. Also makes you wonder how well he'd do if he ever showed up on, say, the DS like a certain lawyer from a popular adventure game series here.

Even the unadjusted stats for 2010 only show Niko getting 62 on Guybrush, and Guybrush goes through Vincent vs. Seph. (why the hell did Seph get matched up with two different FF7 characters that year?)

The main thing that's really throwing me off about this talk of Guybrush possibly beating Max Payne is that it's Guybrush Threepwood we're talking about here - the same Guybrush who got destroyed by Ryo Hazuki way back when.

Well I meant the GTA characters we've seen contests, so Claude doesn't count. But yeah I guess you have a point.

Even then, Max Payne should be at least as strong as them if not stronger (notice he outseeded both Niko and Vercetti). No one plays GTA for the characters, the exact opposite is true of Max Payne (in case the title didn't help).

If that's true, it's only out of nostalgia for old PC games. For what it's worth, Max Payne was ranked above any Monkey Island game on unikgamer for a while, and I'd have to imagine this site takes to action games better than adventure games.

In hindsight though, it makes sense for Guybrush to be a "well respected historic character", but only because his game(s) ushered in a new age for its/their genre. A genre that has NEVER been popular on this site.

You know what the weird thing about all of this is, though? Look back at the updates where the stuffing was confirmed. Marisa's still often pulling in sub-50 updates there. It's definitely up quite a bit from her non-stuffed updates, some of which barely scrape double digits (not counting her negative update when the votes were removed, her worst update is 10 votes, so she's never been held to single digits but she's been damn close; there are multiple 11-vote updates), but less than ten votes a minute...that cheating isn't terribly effective. Maybe the anti-stuffing methods actually are doing something.

Match LXVI: (9) Ganondorf vs. (10) Guybrush Threepwood vs. (19) Max Payne

Previous Contest

Ganondorf – 2010
58.65% against Mewtwo
63.83% against Ken
42.82% against Sonic the Hedgehog

Guybrush Threepwood – 2010
22.56% against Vincent Valentine

Max Payne – 2004
38.04% against Tommy Vercetti

Analysis

It is rare for Ganondorf to be given a weak opponent so that he can flex his muscles. With two fodder opponents Ganondorf has the opportunity to reach for a high percentage. It does not matter what his percent is though as with Mario waiting for him next round. Ganondorf will again be tied down against a Nintendo opponent.

Guybrush is the classical able to get nominate, but has few fans character. This will be his sixth character battle and he has yet to make an impression in a match. I would argue that his 2010 performance was his best contest match. With this being a day match his performance could suffer given Europe is where he gets a lot of his strength from, but that did not hurt him against Vincent.

It has been a long time since we last saw Max and back then he had some strength, being around the fodder line. Today, like many characters who returned after taking a vacation he should be a lot weaker. Max Payne 3 was released last year, but that may only stop him from being terrible fodder.

I hesitate to rank him below Guybrush because Guybrush is just so weak, even after his performance against Vincent. While it would be funny to see Guybrush win something I do not think this will be the match for it to happen. As for Ganondorf, he has a good chance at breaking 60% against these two.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Ganondorf > Max Payne and Guybrush Threepwood

charmander6000’s Prediction: Ganondorf – 60.43%, Max Payne – 21.36%, Guybrush Threepwood – 18.21%
