my Oracle prediction looks pretty good right now: Dragonborn - 40.19% Tom Nook - 33.43% Pyramid Head - 26.38% Seriously, though - why was anyone expecting Dragonborn to be worth much of anything? Haven't we seen enough examples that this smaller voter base has shifted towards older characters? Eh I don't think Dragonborn's problem is his design anyway, it's more the malleability. I love my Dragonborn more than these characters but I'm rooting for PH here because this clown with the Iron Helmet is a doofus. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

still haven't voted. This is probably my toughest vote of the contest
thus far - how funny that it's between arguably the two most different

There's a lot in Nook's favor here really. 1. He stands out like crazy. 2. New Leaf just came out and I've seen more discussion on it than I've seen for an Animal Crossing since the original. 3. A lot of the hatedom Animal Crossing had about being a "non-game" or whatever has largely died down and I've even seen a lot of former haters get into New Leaf. --- Demyx is better than Axel. http://www.last.fm/user/crazydom |

Western
leads all look exactly the same and that's a major problem for them.
Even someone like Nathan Drake, who gets rave reviews from people, looks
like a total McDude who can barely even put one over on Pac-Man.
Shepard is probably the only one worth a damn because he comes from a
popular RPG... and he still started out in the basement of getting

He stands out about as much as possible, and neither of his opponents have the slightest tie to Nintendo. The fact that it took Skyrim to get an Elder Scrolls character into a Character Battle when both Morrowind and Oblivion have pulled wild upsets in past contests should tell you everything you need to know. Remember how Kerrigan was overestimated to high hell and back in her debut year because of how well Starcraft did in Games 2004? Sometimes strong games just don't have strong characters. I mean Dragonborn's not looking quite that bad, but given what these two characters have done in the past, it looks like Dragonborn's high fodder at best. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. Honestly Dragonborn's not even a generic mcdude that iron helmet look is pretty distinctive. It's just that unlike Shepard there's a lot less standard character creation/definition involved-- I'm sure plenty of Dragonborn voters are put off by seeing that dude. --- No problem! In the match KH referenced, all Shepard had was the original Mass Effect, which honestly was not that well received and Shepard was a pretty stiff character in that one. Crossing is also going to be represented in the next Smash Bros. That
might be helping Nook a bit here. I'm sure the playrate went up after

Shepard actually looked really good, and that was despite getting handicapped with a FemShep pic and facing another
Nintendo character who stood out like crazy. Shep looked a hell of a
lot stronger than Dragonborn does now; he's still the favorite over

I'd be happier if Nook were actually winning, but I still feel like
this "underperformance" is enough. Definitely sounds like Dragonborn not

like Pokemon and PS1 platformers and actually has some nostalgia going

Shepard > Aeris should probably still be considered the favorite
pick. FF7 has just looked that bad, and I named out Shepard as an
exception to the rule specifically. Especially assuming he gets his
distinctive Male Shepard look, which like it or not the majority of
people out there, no matter who they played as, instantly identify as
Shepard. But if Shepard was like a Cloud or something, both in his design and in not being able to change how he looks in the game? Shepard
looked bad and Aeris looked "who knows." i'll probably decide my pick
there based on how well Tifa does. if she looks really bad like the FF7
males have then i'll take Shep. if she just looks at least as good as

Dragonborn
doesn't speak apart from the shout attacks, does he? He's a silent
protagonist, and most people play the game in first-person and don't
