it's a hard game to replay though unless you're able to run with some of the wacky plot theories out there like Rinoa=Ultimecia and Squall is dead after the first disc and adjust your perceptions accordingly.

uhhhhhhh

Haha, not saying I believe those to be canon, but if you can adjust your thinking without necessarily believing it, I find it makes the plot more coherent and engaging for a second playthrough.

I know what you're saying.

But FFVIII doesn't need total bullocks fan theories to be enjoyable on replays! Just focus more on Squall being awesome. He gets better every time I replay the game!

@nanis

I think you are over simplifying with that you have an immediate distaste for. If you hate Squall then you generally won't like ff8. I don't think it makes all the other characters as awful as you think. You already hate Squall you aren't going to like most of the other characters. I say it slants your view quite a bit by then.

I am probably partial as FFVIII is still one of my favorites. *shrugs

I didn't realize people thought there was no point in replaying Final Fantasy games! They're all fun to replay. It's like rewatching your favorite movie. You know it's not going to change but it's still something you want to experience over and over again.

I don't know how many times I tried to replay FFVIII each time hoping that maybe now I will like it..but to no avail
(even though some games are more enjoyable in future playthrougs..because you know where to go,more familiar with the mechanics and exploits.etc)

Out of curiosity, which part angers you so much Nanis? There's lots of little details to FF8 you might miss if you don't actively look for 'em.

Surprise surprise, more board 8 double standards. When BT rails out against the ****fest that is FF9, his opinions are wrong and laughable. When some random newbie rails out against FF8 which is universally loved, it's perfectly understandable and reasonable.

(Also it's probably because Nanis actually tried to express his dislike in a rational manner instead of resorting to just insulting the game and its fans. It's not a double standard that people are more understanding and accepting of people who actually discuss things in a polite manner.)

IMO FF9 is a lot better than FF8 and the only reason it lacks popularity is because it was released so late in the PSX's life cycle.

You're honest to goodness the first person I've heard that's played FF9 that didn't like it.

FF9 is a slow game, introduces no new battle mechanics, has an atrocious art style, and a cast of characters that I would say is easily the worst in the series (which says a lot given 10 and 13's casts)

Hold a poll on any mainstream gaming site, and of the first 10 games, 9 is probably only higher than and 3.

It's a weird day when both Turtle and the guy he's debating with are both right. GameFAQS is its own thing (as evidenced by the enormous disparities between it and GameSpot's contests beyond the 4chan trolling), but it's also fairly representative of the old fogey jRPG crowd.

I saw webcomics and blogs talking about Catherine. This isn't just some niche game that is contained to a single board, everyone heard about Catherine and read about it, because it was different than anything they had seem before. And many people probably played it because of that.

Can't you simply admit that you losing that point is not a result of GameFAQs's weirdness, but just a lack of your own knowledge about the populatiry of games? You are not omniscient, you know.

Sorry but no. Mario being top tier in Gamespot is not '4chan and Valve'. Snake being top tier, likewise. Gordon Freeman and Master Chief being MUCH better than Sonic and Cloud though, IS indicative that GameFAQS has widely divergent opinions from the aggregated gamer collective, over all.

If you actually read the Draven rally topics most people were saying "screw you I'm voting for Jak" in them too.

Unfortunately, Draven got far more votes than the number of people who were posting in the Draven rally topics. The conclusion here is that most of the rallied voters for Draven looked at the rally topics and then voted without even posting in the topic.

I'd probably pick Draven to get between 55-60% on Draven without any SFF.

How many votes came from Europe in the Draven match compared to in the average match?

I wouldn't be surprised if that match got over 10000 votes from Europe. Night matches in the Rivalry Rumble had average vote totals of 28354, with an average of 5057 votes from Europe. We can't even view the results for an entire continent anymore, because the old Geolocation system was killed off and replaced with the new poll maps.

No, he barely avoided it. He bet HaRRicH that Snake wouldn't beat Mega Man and Zero combined in 2008 and he survived by less than a percent.

I made a prediction that Snake would score 43% the previous round and BT said "I'll close my account if that happens" and then backpedaled and said that he meant that he might as well close it, not that he would.
