they got missile 2nd

Conjecture. Even without that rally, Missile would likely have won 2nd anyway.

Judging by how the poll was going when they weren't rallying, this is stupid.

Convincing argument you have there.

I'm looking at the trend charts and I see Missile shooting out the gate with a 700-vote lead, part of it on the backs of 4-chan. Then I see Kerrigan slowly wittle away at the lead for the remainder of the match, though her cuts are not nearly enough to come back.

If you weren't there this is even less worth paying attention to. Missile started out hot from the board, but Kerrigan was already coming back before 4 chan decided to start their rally. It's really really really obvious looking at the trend charts for the match, especially since any match where Crono INCREASES from his low point by like 3% at the end of the poll tells the whole story if you know anything about how CT works in these contests.

Yeah, last time I'd checked the updates was around 5:30. Since then, Catherine pushed the lead into triple digits, Neku pushed it all the way down to single digits, and then Catherine's exploded and passed 200. Damnit, 4chan, this match was doing just fine without any rallies!

I hadn't seen that when I posted. As for Crono, his performance is mostly dependent on whether you think Kerrigan boosted from SC2. He scored a touch less than Vincent did back in the day.

They have more influence because the vote totals have declined so precipitously. We'd barely even notice them doing stuff if we still had the potential of pulling down day matches with 85k votes.

If we were doing 12-hour matches back in 2007 or 2008, we would be having day matches getting over 100000 votes. Character Battle 2010 didn't have the same kind of vote totals compared to 2007 and 2008. If every single 12-hour match ran for 24 hours instead, the contest would have average vote totals of just 99711 votes, well below the average vote totals of 2008 (134027 votes). Those are just projections, though.

So will we ever have a contest that runs a horizontal poll banner or a mini poll on all pages, thereby increasing our votals again? We keep hearing that site traffic is up but no one visits the home page anymore. The more people interested in the contest the more beneficial it is to run them so more contests for us. I was kind of surprised it wasn't brought in this contest with all the effort that went into the other added contest features.

As for the rallying I always hate when this thread starts down the rallying = illegitimate win train of thought. Rallying is a part of the prediction you have to figure who will be more rally-able if you will. And to be fair rallying is probably the only reason we still have contests. If it doesn't bring in people who usually don't come to Gamefaqs why would they keep giving out prizes and organizing contests?

Way I see it keep the rallies coming... the more the better... and keep things interesting... Spring Contest 2k14 here we come! *crosses fingers*

The Catherine jumps are consistent with when a new thread goes up on /v/, Neku had been cutting her fast before that latest one went up.
The continent divide doesn't even exist, the biggest bases in UK, Germany and France are all voting Catherine. US is very close between the two. Neku will be cutting again before the poll is out while Europe is asleep when the rally goes away, guaranteed.

Yeah, let's not be in denial here. They were even(with Neku maybe even having a slight advantage at the time), then Catherine jumps out to a 300+ vote lead literally within 5 minutes of the rally thread going up.

Heh, this match has already gotten more votes from Ireland than all of the other day matches in this contest so far. Raiden/Waluigi/Alan Wake had a 102 votes from Ireland and this match is already up to 123 votes from Ireland and there's still about 3 hours left in the match.

This is exactly wrong. When the guru is close to unanimous it's super easy to just go along with the consensus pick; you don't have to think at all. When it's a tossup, you have to think it out yourself.

I wouldn't really trust Northern Ireland's results because they are messed up (along with Scotland, Wales, and most parts of England). I reported this problem to Bacon, but he doesn't want to fix the incorrect results because it would be take too much effort.

To do something like that, I would need to use 24-hour polls to calculate this stuff. 12-hour polls can have a very big separation in vote totals between day and night for some countries, especially those in Asia and Oceania.
