It's not impossible if you assume voters don't see G&W as Smash but instead see him as 'G&W', if that makes any sense.

The funny thing is I don't actually disagree with this sentiment, but here's what I boil the match down to:

1. Do I think 30% of this site has played The Walking Dead.
2. Do I think 30% of this site has played Meat Boy

I think the answer to both of these questions is a resounding no, so they simply aren't able to actually win the match unless G&W gets anti-voted or one of them gets pic votes. Voters will default to the guy they know even if they don't particularly like him.

I could actually see the second argument as having merit and the consensus being Meat Boy but the consensus was actually Lee which makes zero sense at all seeing as he's not photogenic.

IMO:

Mr. Game & Watch has very little in the "character" department, and he just got into the contest for the sake of having another SSB representative. People will vote for him because they are fans of SSB.

Meat Boy is probably one of the most recognizable "indie game" character in a while. But he might be held back by virtue of being an indie game character. Even though his game is popular, it's not super mainstream. And even if people recognize him by appearance without playing his game, there will probably be a lot of overlap with the SSB voters, since everyone has played that.

Lee is a character from some small game whose fans keep trying (and failing) to convince us that it is popular, when the fact is that nobody who hasn't played it knows or cares about it. Plus, nobody who's unfamiliar with all 3 characters is going to vote for some random human when there are two "video game-y" looking characters next to him.

Meat Boy could win on recognizability, but the more likely scenario is Mr. G&W winning due to series votes.

This is extremely wrong. I used to use Mr. Game & Watch all the time in Melee just because, although I wasn't good with him. I thought the consensus among Melee players is that Game & Watch sucks in Melee.

As for the argument, give me ONE example of a character who follows the following criteria:

-Is in more than one SSB.
-Is low-tier in his/her non-Brawl SSB appearances.
-Is reliant on SSB for strength

I can't think of one. Mr. Game & Watch would be the first example if he does well - which I still honestly don't see, although then again I see it as "late unlockable in a fighting game whose popularity is gradually dropping vs. the main characters of two of the most popular games of the last few years".

Never mind that the main rationale behind Mr. Game & Watch doing well is because "it's Smash Bros. against The Walking Dead and Super Meat Boy", which sounds even less credible of an excuse than "Zelda vs. Dynasty Warriors and Tekken".

I dunno. Mr. Game & Watch just seems like the least recognizable character in the match going off of the pic.

And Mr. Game & Watch beating Lee still sounds horribly wrong to me.

If ZeldaFAQs can't beat freaking Lu Bu, is it really a guarantee that SmashFAQs Is enough to beat Meat Boy, who didn't completely embarrass himself in the contest that didn't happen?

Another theory I had is that Phoenix Wright beat Marth so easily because even SSB fans would want to vote for the Internet-wide meme over their character. The Walking Dead's critical and commercial acclaim could be seen as a parallel of Phoenix Wright's meme status, thus causing SSB fans to vote for Lee over their late-game unlockable.

I have a no pick for the coming round generally because I thought Smash Bros popularity might be canceled out by general apathy for Game and Watch.

I would still be surprised if Meat Boy beats him but I wasn't really expecting Meat Boy to do that much worse.

We've seen FFVII and CT face each other on more than enough occasions to say that there is minimal disproportionate (key word here, folks) overlap between them.

Sora being there will absolutely doom Cloud to defeat. Crono does not necessarily doom him to defeat.

I picked Brawl (Mr. G&W) over one of my favorite VG characters from 2012 but will be more than happy if Lee pulls off the win. A -1 point I'll rejoice over.

As much as I loved the Spyro trilogy on the PS1, Clementine losing that match was BY FAR the worst result in contest history.

Who in their right mind votes against Clementine the greatest child NPC ever (Nanako Dojima a close second)? who?

That, in a nutshell, is pretty much the only reason I picked Lightning over DK. Otherwise, it's the divisive protagonist of a divisive game vs. a recently resurrected gaming icon.
