Cloud/Sephiroth
is encouraging. Cloud got 52% on Sephiroth back in 2003. Nowadays,
Cloud is probably worth about 54% on Sephiroth, but in multiway polls he
can put up 67%. Now back in 2003 Magus put up 35% on Link, and Crono put up 37% the next year (against a stronger Link). It works out to Crono being worth about 57% on Magus back in 2003/4, when he got 70% after SFF in a direct match. By 2005, Crono was worth about 60% indirectly on Magus (through Vincent, Squall, and Knuckles). It's hard to say how much Crono is worth indirectly on Magus now, but probably well into the 60s. I'm hoping Crono can 80/20 Magus next round, which he may need, as increasingly I'm realizing that 2008 suggests that Crono is only worth around 55% on Pikachu indirectly. I
was going to list Caim, but Drakengard didn't feel much like an RPG to
me. Caim and Welkin would lose, maybe Nier too (Nier is in right?), but
it's hard to picture many of them being even decent enough to beat the
weaker JRPG guys in the contest. Shulk could possibly beat some, but I
don't think I would take Dunban or Reyn over much of anybody because

Missile finished last place in that poll, yet managed to get 2nd place in an actual match, so it's clear that Missile underperformed in that pre-contest poll due to a lack of pictures. I would like a HARD MODE settings for "new characters contest" Make it from games/series that had no character from ever It isn't as bad as it sounds!! Advance Wars,Breath of Fire,Bastion,Cave Story,Chrono Cross (unless "Lavos" counts),Doom,Gex,Jazz Jackrabbit,Plants vs Zombies And the biggest threat-Digimon There are actually some strong characters from those game Also looking at the new characters list it hit me that Bass never was in a contest before...like,what? |

Fresh blood has always meant Nintendo and Square characters, and any attempt by Ceej or Bacon to get company diversity in for the sake of company diversity has been (rightly) criticized. If you don't like it that's fine, but no one's being hypocritical. My attitude and that of the stats topic has always been that strong characters trumps company diversity. Who cares if there's a lot of FF and Pokemon characters in? --- "What's the matter with bootblacking? We both like it very much!" This is Yesmar. |

Yeah, we're at the point where diversity is not worth it unless they come from a new game.
