Yoshimitsu still feels like he should be the most recognizable character in that match though, and it's a character in a long-running series vs. a character in a 2011 game that has kinda divided fans. Also I just realized that assuming a constant Magus from 2003 to 2010, 2003 Link is on the same level as...2010 Kirby. What happened to Link back then, we'll never know. There is no overlap from year to year. Finding who was constant the most might make comparisons easier, but it's also irrelevant. If you assume a constant Magus, then the whole field got a lot weaker. If you assume a constant Link, then most of the field got stronger while isolated characters (like Crono) got weaker. If you assume a constant Pikachu, then the field is much stronger now than it was then. Assuming a character stays constant might have its uses, but it is ultimately a pointless endeavor. If 2003 Link=2010 Kirby, then 2010 Kirby would have beaten every 2003 character except for Cloud and maybe Sephiroth and 2010 Link would have basically 70/30d the entire 2003 field, NN included. It might be fun and silly, but it's entirely irrelevant. |

2002 Link was the weakest or Link didn't SFF Mario in the finals. Not only because assuming anyone stays constant is silly and irrelevant, but because it's clear that Magus is a ton weaker now (both relative to the field and himself) than he was then. |
