He'll do better on Laharl than Sora did at least. It's not that bad. Sora does pretty decent --- A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice. |
Dante is currently above what the SFF-adjusted 2010 stats expect him to get on Laharl. Not bad. |
Squirtle
is by far the best newcomer this year. This got me wondering, when was

Dante
will be doing fine by the end of this match, he doesn't have a good
board vote. There's no way to tell when Charizard's overperformances
fully kicked in, either, so I'd take Laharl expectations with a very
tiny grain of salt. Squirtle still has to prove he's capable of contending with Ryu, something easily possible but I find it unlikely enough that I took Dante next round after taking Mewtwo > Vincent. Edit: Dante could easily be pic sabotaged, in which case I'm putting it all on Squirtle. He tends to get pic-sabotaged, too (which is really lame with any character, guys), so that's definitely a mitigating factor. --- sig |

Using
Sora Vs. Laharl and Sora Vs. Bowser from 2010, Dante would get about
47% on Bowser right now. If he manages to get Laharl under 29.5%, he
would be virtually statistically equal with Bowser. Not saying the match would actually go that way, but i don't see why you'd call this a disappointment. --- A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice. |

Poliwhirl is p big in japan, and I was keeping Scyther off until like 3 people mentioned him for being "so kewl" or w/e Typhlosion I can't remember why, I think someone said "add a gen 2 starter" and I didn't want to add meganium or feraligatr --- ~Zen |

Dante is doing fine now, it was bad when he was at 53% , had no idea Dante has such a terrible board/early vote . --- ... |

always some overreaction about Dante getting pic-sabotaged, but I've
always had a hard time buying it. Some people acted like his picture
against Ryu in 2010 was unfair or intentional sabotage. It was a regular
Dante picture. Dante fans always want DMC3 pics because it's their
favorite game, not because he looks very different or noticeably better

I consider this a good
result from Dante (though that's a bit tempered by his tendency to
overperform in R1 historically). Squirtle actually has to prove he has
strength, certainly not impossible looking at Charizard but Squirtle
should be a fair bit below him to say the least (both starters sure, but
Charizard was always cooler). --- sig |

looks great. It's good to know people haven't turned away from him and
are likely just ignoring DmC all together. Please for the love of God do

I specifically picked a Dante from a non-DMC game with a design based heavily on DMC2 for this match to see how he'd do I guess we can analyze if that had any impact on him later --- ~Zen |

I think if there's any burden of proof in Squirtle/Dante, it's on
Dante. Pokemon has been red hot for several contests in a row, and a
second-gen Pokemon just got done putting up same damn good numbers.
Squirtle has had his boys proving things on his behalf for a good five
years now. Dante has to actually prove he can win the debated match. By

I'll be blunt - you don't understand the DMC fanbase. People don't get agitated when he gets a picture from DMC 3 or 4 or 1, and he's had plenty from each of them. When you give him a picture from DMC2 (or to a far greater extent now, the new DmC), that generates feelings of utter REVULSION. Dante's never gotten a non-DMC2 pic in a debatable match either, so this idea of him being a choker is pretty unwarranted too. It's a mini-version of like if Snake had lost all those close calls with Sprite Snake. --- sig |

Yeah
I literally lost all hope for Dante when he drew that awful DMC2 pic
against Ryu a few years back. It's blatant pic sabotage and I don't
understand why people seem to be okay with it here. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

made Dante's 2010 pic and it wasn't intentional sabotage. i just really
like his DMC2 look and am not a fan of the 3 or 4 look. maybe it's
