Especially with how it seems like it's being treated like there's only one true way to enjoy it and god help you if you dissent. I'd be totally okay if we retired Dark Link immediately if everyone's worst fears were confirmed. I just don't think banning out of fear is all that logical. And I like logic and consistency. But in the grand scheme of things, letting Dark Link seems like one of the lesser evils. If you gave me a choice of what we had to do to change the contest rules from the early days out of: 4-ways (or any non-1v1 set-up) Allow joke characters Allow Dark Link, etc. I'd take Dark Link in a heartbeat. Retirement can solve any problems Dark Link causes and at worst we're talking about one contest that was "ruined" and I'd probably laugh at the idea that Dark Link could ruin a contest. I'm not sold that Dark Link could beat Cloud/Snake automatically and so in that sense it's not any different to me than adding in a high-Noble Nine tier character at worst. Not very many people (who are regulars) lament Cloud/Snake being allowed in even though there are very few matchups involving them that are in any doubt. Dark Link isn't any different to me. And if I'm wrong, fine, retire him. The other changes we've had have done a lot more to make me become disappointed with the contests and they also don't seem like they're going away so the damage is far more lasting IMO. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? How
is Link factored into Epona? You don't make any connection with Dark
Link. It's just a shade, a mini boss. Getting Epona is one of the best
moments in OoT, one of the best moments in a Zelda game, really. Anyone
that played OoT back when it came out has that connection. I mentioned
this a few topics ago! Yeah, it's Zelda, so anything will get some
votes, but Epona probably tops most Zelda characters, I'd say. Nothing
to do with Link, she isn't a Link proxy like Dark Link is. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |

I've
said for years there's more to a contest than unpredictability! If you
really want unpredictability, have 10-ways where you have to predict

I'm a supporter of earliest in-game appearance round, like we got in 2003 and 2007. To me, this should be the rounds: R1: Full Body R2: Closeup R3: Earliest In-Game Appearance R4: Most Recent Appearance R5: Dueling Characters Final: ??? If we have an extra round like in the 2010 contests you could put in an Xtreme Closeup Round like we got in 2005. For games I like: R1: Box Art R2: Character Art R3: 4x4 Characters (like that one round in the Series Contest) R4: Title Screen (How has this not been a round theme in any Game Contest so far?) R5/R6: ?? --- "What's the matter with bootblacking? We both like it very much!" This is Yesmar. |

Epona is winning purely because it's from Zelda and no other reason. I realise the same applies for a hell of a lot of characters, including other series, but at least they are by and large actual characters with development (even if they are bad characters or have crappy development). Everyone expected it to happen. It doesn't make it any less disappointing. For want of a better example, I'd say the exact same thing if say BlazBlue was insanely popular and Hazama's hat was winning a match.
