foxhead84 posted... ZenOfThunder posted...You can't seriously expect Bacon to accept a picture of Link on Epona. I just sent in a feedback ticket to Bacon about this so people will stop expecting/asking for it. The Pokemon pic was always a bad call by Bacon. He's used fanart, too. He makes mistakes. But even then, the Pokemon are tools of the Trainers and a major part of the rivalry, which was the theme of the contest. We could have Link riding Epona in a Link pic because she's a tool he uses, but you can't have Link in an Epona pic. It just doesn't work that way. Would it do better than the classic one, or worse because 'lol cockpit'? |

LinkMarioSamus posted... I like how Final Fantasy VII isn't safe from that while Nintendo games are. Why do we even let you in here? Nintendo's always been the most "mainstream" company, just like Disney is with animation. RPGs are more popular on this site, but platformers have always been the most mainstream genre. If you opened the "popularity contest" to the masses instead of just the hardcore gamers that come here, Cloud easily gets his butt kicked against "lesser" characters like Sonic, and poor Crono would've never even got a chance at Mario, or at least not in 2002. 2002 contest: Crono might be able to win his first-round match against Simon, but he'd be hard-pressed to beat Dante, and he certainly wouldn't be able to beat Lara. 2003: Well, who knows if the bracket would even look like that if not for 2002--Crono and Mario were both given easy paths to a rematch. (Of course, Mario didn't exactly blow out Shadow in round 2, so maybe things would be different there, too.) Even in an "open" contest, Crono probably makes it to round 3 (especially if Kefka is still a salad), but he gets crushed. 2004: I don't even know. Crono probably makes it to R3 here, too, because CBFD was too obscure and Crono still wins an SFF match, but it's 2004. The most obvious bracket ever, full of SFF matches and rematches of all-time classics. Which I'm pretty sure Mario/Crono wouldn't have been. So it's not like he'd have actually faced Mario there. 2005: Another RPG character...but it's Old Square vs. New Square. Yeah, I don't think Crono would make it out of that first round, either. 2006: BAHAHAHAHA no. Not one of the four characters he ended up facing that year would lose to him in a poll of more casual gamers. 2007: Uh...probably wouldn't have done that much worse, actually. If he could beat Simon in 2002, he could do so in 2007, and he probably beats Sam Fisher as well so he makes it to R2. Only one round worse than in reality at worst, and Raiden was pretty unpopular so he might actually be able to beat Raiden in both of the first two rounds, thereby getting him into the exact same match that killed him in reality (except not because Vincent wouldn't have even made it out of R1, and thanks to Link still SFFing Zelda into submission in R2, it would've been something like Link vs. Crono vs. Zero vs. Tails. Why am I even still continuing this exercise when we've come up with something that stupid? Oh, right, because I'm refuting an LMS "point".) 2008: That's, um...based solely on who the other three characters appearing in each match are, he looks like he could reach round 4 at least (where Samus probably stops him due to Smash?), but in reality it wouldn't because that Crono > L-Block R2 result turns into Ryu > Crono and he gets knocked out in R3 by Pikachu and Ryu. 2010: He actually improves on his performance in 2010, because no non-gamer would "get" the Missingno joke. So he actually gets far enough to be beaten by Yoshi in Round 2. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. You will be missed. |

KanzarisKelshen posted... Blairville posted...That makes sense. Why didn't we realize this before? ...Except until we make it a true fictional character open, I have my doubts that something that draws a significant portion of its strength from a non-video game source will be terribly strong. I think...okay, maybe not. It's hard to argue that Pikachu wouldn't be just another Gen I Pokémon without the anime (and before you say "Smash", would he have really gotten into Smash without the anime?) Okay, let's try it. The more strong "things that are technically from video games but no one really thinks of them as such" we can get in, the better, because it opens the door to a Fictional Character Open. (*sad because the protagonist of my favorite anime meets the "originates from a video game" criterion, but would undoubtedly be extremely weak*) --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. Match XXXI: (2) GlaDOS vs. (17) Cole MacGrath vs. (26) Ragna the Bloodedge Previous Contest GlaDOS – 2010 66.78% against Fawful 31.60% against Kirby Cole MacGrath – N/A N/A Ragna the Bloodedge – N/A N/A Analysis Even without the expected boost I would probably take GlaDOS to win this match. A lot has happened for GlaDOS since we last saw her with free Portal and Portal 2 she is likely much stronger now. After Wheatley’s performance a few matches ago GlaDOS is in a great position to take advantage of LFF next round and could potentially reach the third round. For this match she has to show that she is capable of having the predicted strength we have set for her. Without knowing too much about either character I have decided to go with Cole for second. Infamous is a bit more well-known and while it was crushed in the Game of the Decade contest I do not see BlazBlue performing much better with it being a niche fighting game. While Ragna may be the main character of BlazBlue being in a fighting game not named Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat is a bad idea. Even Nightmare got crushed now that Soul Calibur is becoming passé. Still with a small dedicated fanbase I do not see him getting completely embarrassed. If both characters are quite weak GlaDOS should have no problem breaking 50%, especially if she does not want people to jump ship over her chance to reach the third round. Ike has shown to have strength and Epona is a wild card so she needs to look as good as possible. charmander6000’s Bracket: GlaDOS > Cole MacGrath and Ragna the Bloodedge charmander6000’s Prediction: GlaDOS – 53.37%, Cole MacGrath – 25.88%, Ragna the Bloodedge – 20.75% --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB9%20BOP.xls Points: 24/28 Today's Picks: Falcon and Bayonetta |

If Ragna gets 20% GlaDOS is dead regardless of how Epona/Ike split. Also this. Ragna is basically Archer plus a more famous fighting game, minus people actually liking him at all. I'd
be shocked if anything from Digimon is even remotely strong. They have

Lopen posted... I'd be shocked. I'd take like, Juliet Starling over any character from Digimon. I think a large portion of the website's users watched at least the first two seasons of the show and enjoyed it as 10-18 year-olds. The right character could get a lot of nostalgia depending on who they're up against. |

Nah, that wasn't it either, I don't think. It might've been, what with Link riding towards his foe, but I seem to remember it being head on and the opponent being far more epic as well. When was the last time we filled up an entire thread in one 12-hour match? I feel like it's been a very long while, possible since 2010. Two threads, actually. When Alucard-Falcon started, we were like 8 pages into topic 1071. By the time it ended, 1073 was full. And of course, we've almost filled up this topic in the span of 12 hours, too, due to a combination of the end of Alucard-Falcon, this match being hype, and this match spectacularly failing to live up to hype, leading to some people being made fools of (if you expect me to feel bad about it, you're going to be disappointed; it wouldn't be a proper contest if I didn't make a complete fool of myself at least once, and this is still far less embarrassing than my worst prediction for CBVIII was. Also, this is actually my second time this contest challenging the "common wisdom", and the first was completely right), followed by some arguing as to which generation of Pokémon was, objectively, the best. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. Nope, nothing, because I only ever watched the dub. If you're really trying to appeal to nostalgia for someone's childhood, you probably should try something that doesn't involve spending however many dollars on the DVDs for original subs, because kids don't have that kind of disposable income. Also you're depressing me again because my favorite anime character that technically originated from a video game has never actually had her show released on American television and would therefore be super weak. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar.
