Also Leon you're right, I forgot Last Place Factor Rydia is underperforming by about 15% because of it. That's how it works, right?

I was thinking of a couple of other reasons, actually!

Like I said, Rydia >= Cecil wouldn't totally shock me since they both look girly but Rydia looks womanly.

Isaac being the new fodder line isn't a bad idea, really. It should be a niche RPG guy to carry on the tradition of Vyse.

I remember when we suggested Captain Falcon as the new fodder line, and here he is beating Alucard. He's all grown up now.

Waaait, why are people talking about making The Boss the new fodderline? Compared to several fodder characters, she's definitely not that bad.
#405 | LeonhartFour | Posted 7/23/2013 3:55:09 AM | message detail
Honestly, Pac-Man is probably the best fodder line we could come up with. If you can't beat Pac-Man, you're not someone worth paying attention to.

You're on notice, Drake.

Pac Man is too inconsistent. Put him with someone that saps his iconic appeal, and he's worthless. If he's the only icon in a match, he's actually pretty decent. He's bested people like Ness and Ocelot, who are probably a little bit stronger than a fodder line would suggest.

Pac-Man is plenty consistent. It doesn't matter if he folds against someone like Mario. That's not what the gauge is about.

And he only beat Ness because of Mewtwo.

Looking at the match pic is starting to make me feel that Captain Falcon is benefiting from STF.

I picked Pit because this is his first match without another Nintendo character to hurt him and due to the heavy seeding advantage. Also, Cecil probably has the least casual appeal out of every character in that match. He could end up in last place.

Heck, we're seeing a SSB-reliant character seeded lower than Pit doing well in this match. For all we know these guys are on the warpath, seeing how Olimar did so well and Falcon is doing so well today. So...hey Marth what happened to you?

Yep, looks like Falcon's pulling away from Alucard again.

So let me get this straight: Alucard is losing in Round 1, while Tharja, Draven, Morrigan, Spyro, Elizabeth, and Crash are all in Round 2? Welcome to Character Battle IX, folks! Any other chances we have of a contest mainstay dropping the ball this round?

Answers: Ryu Hayabusa (huge chance, I'm actually going to pick him for last place), Fox, Master Chief, Tidus (yet again), Riku, and those are only the most notable examples.

I have the Creeper winning that ninepack. My pick is looking amazing now with similarly recent characters bombing left and right. I think Elizabeth and Wheatley are the only two characters in that mold who have done even remotely well in their matches (screw all the Fire Emblem: Awakening characters and Clementine), and that's assuming 61% on Thrall and a close loss to Crash Bandicoot are "good".

I remember calculating earlier that Elizabeth would be on Zidane's level and Poison would be on The Boss's level if you plugged their values on Thrall into the 2010 stats. Boy does that not sound right.

Whoa, Rydia's doing pretty great!

Oh yeah, and two characters with decent strength are having a close and interesting match, blah blah blah, but all that matters is old-school Square showing power.

LeonhartFour posted...
This isn't pure FFIV strength...!

Yeah, she's clearly been strengthened by the sheer power of The After Years!

This also means we should nominate one of the "characters" from Dimensions.

Also, what the f*** at some people seriously saying an old-school Square character hurts a Brawl icon and the second-biggest adventure-platformer icon. I don't think you can have less overlap unless you replace Rydia with one of the two indie-game characters who isn't from a platformer.

And yes, I realize most people were joking about that, but it looked like a few actually believe that nonsense.

I don't see why this can't be explained by two Night characters hurting each other more than otherwise would have.

And Rydia is close enough to them that if there's any decent overlap it would make a big difference.

Well you can't prove it. But it follows that if a night vote is more likely to go to a night character, they will split those votes more than with the Day one.

That, and I just find it easier to believe that more of Rydia's voters favor Alucard over Falcon, even if it's only like a 60-40, or even 55-45 thing. I suppose I don't have anything objective to base this on other than both Alucard and Rydia's games having RPG elements, and none of Falcon's having anything in common with Rydia's, but I dunno, it's an assumption I feel comfortable making.
