I'd take Tingle and BOI Isaac to 60-40 Keen, but not double. Doubling keen arguably has them around Barret's level of strength which I don't think looks right. (Keen only loses 47-53 to Layton right now barring more percentage loss from Isaac)

Especially considering it didn't happen here, when you would expect it to show up. Yes, Snake had a bandwagon going into that match and actually led Link for a while, but if Snake gets SSB support sapped by facing Nintendo, he shouldn't have beaten Cloud.

Why does Crono being there not potentially cancel the effect out? Fact is we really have no idea.

Now I, like most, don't believe FF7 and Chrono Trigger have much overlap. However, I think you misunderstand if you think I'm saying the Snake/Nintendo SFF is huge.

I'm saying that the Nintendo relationship has probably boosted Snake from getting around, say, 55-45'd by Cloud to probably being just about dead even with him (and potentially a 1v1 favorite as a close match would almost undoubtedly create rallies against FF7). That's not a HUGE boost from Nintendo, obviously the great majority of Snake's strength comes from the MGS games.

But, Cloud/Crono might have a similar relationship. In that it isn't much relatively speaking, but in a match like that it could certainly have an influence. Especially in a 4-way where Cloud's static anti-vote base works badly against him.

As for Snake not getting beaten down by Nintendo hierarchy in 4-ways - that's because he NEEDED to resist SFF to beat Cloud. Voters have proven to be very aware of such things, especially the Power Hour(s) voters. They know when someone needs their support - and they will vote against their actual favorite character because someone else needs their vote.

If Snake is in a FF7-less match with Link/Snake/Mario, I just don't see that extra boost Snake got from Nintendo going his way. At all. I consider Snake's chances to win this contest to be quite dim. Not saying it's impossible of course, but I'd be damn surprised.

He might lead lead early in the Power Hour due to bandwagon/Link anti-votes - people wanting to break the LAW and such.

But it's a 24 hour match, and Link will absolutely *crush* him in the day vote/ASV vote (this match occurs when school has started right...?). Mario will sap votes from him during the day vote as well, although not as bad as Link. So that bandwagon effect Snake pretty much *needs* to win will likely be nullified by Link's powers in a 24 hour match, which are significantly higher than his powers in a 12 hour match, especially during the day where MGS is poor and Zelda is top tier, and in addition the "wiseguy" voters have their votes diluted by higher vote totals.

If you're thinking of BG2 characters, the Ward's 'official' name is either Abdel Adrian or Bhaalspawn, depending on how much you want to forget horribly bad novels. I have to imagine Irenicus or Minsc would be the better picks though, those two guys are supremely memorable.

And back to debatable match talk, I honestly want to hear the argument here: Why are we discounting the fact that Alucard has gotten two games since last contest and has one more on the pipeline at the least? I get that we're all hungry for a truly great match, but I just can't see the hype. Alucard is legit. He's not a 'low midcarder', he's full on midcarder legit and he's gonna show it in his match, especially considering he has a new lease on life that he did not have for years and years of contests. If his decay has not reversed, it has certainly been stemmed, at the least.

Well, Pong Paddle actually was in the 2007 bonus poll. Don't think that really counts but here are the numbers anyway:

31.33% directly on Weighted Companion Cube
22.96% directly on L-Block
17.77% directly on ? Block

You might be able to argue that it was facing SFF from L-Block due to its resemblance to I-Block, too, but then again, why are you taking that poll seriously in the first place?

As you might have guessed from looking at Crash's support in the Guru contest and BOP, this match was a disaster for the top tiers. Barely over 20% of the perfects survive the match and many of those that got it wrong stuck around on the leaderboard anyways. The middle tiers did a lot better but at the same time still not all that great. They are mostly in the low to mid-40s for prediction percentage. Either they had a fair amount of faith in Wheatley or Vercetti got a fair amount of support despite never really being in the battle for first place.

19 people fell off the Top 49. JaySolano, JordockX, junglebob22, Karma_Hunter, Kumatora, lightsout06, Lizcious, luigi_master29, MrDew, MZero11, Nanis23, raginbull911, Ron13, Spikedross, SuorGenoveffa, trogita, t_kizzle, Xcarvenger and YetAnothrShadow did not have Crash winning.

19 people managed to stay on the Top 49 despite getting the match wrong. Yeah but after that he got removed for originating in a manga first, and now that's he's more relevant than ever we should just rally him hard. Ceej is the one that banned him and now we have Bacon who might not remember/care. Strider was in the database this year so I think we got a good shot.

Analysis

I feel this match should have had more debate; it seems most people looked at the time of the match and went with Alucard and while this being a night match could be the deciding factor Falcon can still win despite it being night. We are also lucky enough to have seen this match before in 2008, but that was not exactly fair for Captain Falcon.

While Rydia did impress me in her match in 2008 she is a bit out of her league in here. Final Fantasy IV has been re-released a few times since we last saw her, but I think the game has already reached a saturation point by 2008 and any new fans will likely be minimal. Still for a third place character she may end up being one of the more impressive ones.

In 2008 the two characters went up against each other twice. In the first round Alucard got 55.59% with Diddy Kong in the poll and in the second round Alucard got 60.34% with Pikachu in the poll. As Pikachu is stronger he was able to SFF Falcon while Diddy Kong was able to LFF. The major questions are would Falcon have won had there been no Diddy Kong and how are they now 5 years later.

How much LFF a match had is hard to measure, but Falcon was in the range that if he still lost it would have been very close. Looking at 2010 both performed quite similar, especially against Link and Cloud. Both likely benefitted from anti-votes and it is arguably true that Falcon benefitted from more anti-votes. However, Alucard had the benefit of a night match against Link while Falcon also had a night match with Cloud.

Since 2010 Alucard has appeared in a 3DS game while Captain Falcon has remained stagnant, I do not think it will be a game changer, but every little bit helps. Had this been a day or 24 hour match I think people would be more confident, but I think people are overrating the night. In their 2008 match Alucard had 56.54% on Captain Falcon at the 12 hour mark so he only lost 1% over the rest of the day which included the after school vote, something that will not happen here. Either way I am looking forward to hopefully a close match.
