Analysis

This match had some discussion when the bracket was released, but after going into a bit of detail the board is confident that Ness will win and I agree with that assessment. While Ness has not really shown to have a lot of strength he does have enough of it not to be considered fodder and for a match like this that is all you need to win.

Locke has been a character that I have wanted to see for a while now, but not because I think he will be strong. Due to the nature of the ensemble cast of Final Fantasy VI no character has looked that good. Both Celes and pre-Dissidia Terra have shown to be weak and even pre-Dissidia Kefka may not be strong enough to defeat Ness. While Dissidia did boost Terra and Kefka I do not see it translating to strength for Locke as he has no part in that game.

After missing the 2010 contest the board made sure to rally CATS to make sure he would make this contest. As the original joke character he was a popular meme back in the late 90s, but now I wonder how many people, especially the younger group know about him. He never had much strength and in the vote-ins in 2010 despite it being in a format he would perform well in he finished in dead last.

Three characters with three different strengths so do not expect this match to be very interesting other than to watch CATS drop as the board vote finishes. Ness has a pretty good chance at breaking 50% should CATS really flop this match and Locke is closer to Celes than pre-Dissidia Terra.
