Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated. --- Point Total: 21/21. Trying to be active again in the discussion topic. Lets see how long it lasts. I think given the fodder in these contests, the first round results are going to end up, in hindsight, looking really screwy. I am expecting much tighter matches once matches get multiple characters that mainstream gamers truly like. I expect Sonic/Vincent/Bowser to be as epic as we are hoping it will be. And I expect Link to really struggle with Cloud/Snake in the finals, given the likely Mario leech. Most of all, I expect an awesome remaining July into August into September. Match XXIII: (5) Big Boss vs. (14) Peacock vs. (23) Captain Viridian Previous Contest Big Boss – 2010 76.22% against Miles Edgeworth 36.84% against Mario Peacock – N/A N/A Captain Viridian – N/A N/A Analysis There has been some hype that Big Boss could get the biggest blowout of the contest. Even though he is stronger than Mewtwo and his opponents are likely to be quite weak they are not Chester weak. Mewtwo’s match was essentially a 1v1 with Chester taking less than a 1000 votes and Zero will be one of the weakest characters in the entire bracket as well. For Big Boss to break Mewtwo’s record he would have to average about 90% on the two characters, something that is difficult to do. Speaking of difficult I honestly have no idea who takes second. Skullgirls is a fighting game and we all know how well those perform, but in a match like this she does not need much to win. She is a fan favourite in her game and she has a pretty cool design which is better than pixelated stuff, unless you are into that. VVVVVV seems to have a cult following, but like most of those types of games it rarely translate into strength. Viridian does bring back the joys of retro gaming which I see being an important factor on this site, but I just do not see him being well known enough to win. Big Boss may not be able to break 80% against these two characters, but breaking 75% is definitely possible.
