I dunno. I felt like Square made him look kinda lame in Advent Children during the fight scenes. Cloud had to bail him out at the last second to keep him from getting killed, and even Red XIII and friggin' Cait Sith had to jump in to help him against Bahamut SIN.

Yeah, rally definitely seems to be losing steam.

I mean part of it is probably just the usual "votes fall off after the first hour or two", but Reimu seems to have hit that downward trend the hardest.

The geolocation map is still weird as hell, though. Apparently Touhou actually has a much bigger international fanbase than we realized--Reimu's still winning in most of Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia, and a closer look at the map reveals that some of the countries that aren't red at the moment (e.g. France, currently in Layton's blue) also have her tied for the lead.

Well, LoL had the larger natural fanbase, not to mention Barret and Layton > Chie and Jak.

(Also, while I don't expect another rally, I feel it only prudent to remind you that we're barely three hours into the poll. Draven's biggest deficit of the match came 3 hours into the poll. So comparing it to Draven's rally is premature.)

Red XIII would probably be the strongest out of the ones who haven't made it yet.

We could also go outside the box and start nominating the Turks.

I think Red XIII could be equal to or even a little stronger than Cid.

Layton might have been SFFed too. But yeah, it's probably still a close match between the two. Layton still looked pretty horrible in 2008, in a match where he actually stood out somewhat.

Yeah, probably should've switched the order around. Jak would probably beat Layton; Chie...I don't even know who would win. My natural inclination is to go with the RPG character in a debatable 1v1 but unless Barret's weaker than we thought, this makes me think Layton actually could beat Chie.

I have Dunban > KOS-MOS. Risk if anything, but it has a couple of things going for it. Tiny Tina did decent, so perhaps we should take some stock in that GOTY poll. Unlike Tina Dunban is really well liked, it's a Nintendo entity, and a JRPG.

Granted all 3 characters are JRPG, and KOS MOS and Dunban are both Xeno.

If I get it right, wooo 6 points, If I get wrong 0 points. Match will probably sort out where Reyn will land as well.

I wonder how many people voting for Reimu even knows who she is? I'm guessing like half her voters have never heard of her, but are voting for her due to weakness of opposition or something.

This is a pretty pitiful performance by Barret. Dracula will thrash him next round. Oh, and I lean heavily towards RacistFAQs being a legit thing.

I always thought that Red XIII is the strongest FF7 character yet to appear - I think he'd be around Cid level, maybe a bit higher. Ever since 2K3 I've always been surprised that he never made it. I mean how is it he couldn't even manage an appearance in this galactic-sized field? He'd certainly be stronger than Barret. Can't understand how he never pulled in the noms to never make an appearance, ever.

But FF7 strength is clearly waning. In 2K3 Barret would have been stronger than this lowly showing.

Not sure I would call it that... you didn't exactly have to be popular to make it in this contest. It's notable as a bullet hell series. I've only played Imperishable Night but that game is pretty solid, there's a story that probably makes more sense if you're familiar with Japanese folklore, the dialogue is cute and I'm sure if you play the other games or seek out whatever else Touhou exists you get a better read on the characters. If lolis were the chief appeal I think its fans would choose other types of games...

Yeah. As for seeing how much weaker FF7 got, Vincent's probably the better test because Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa et al. have all had KH games and Dissidia games to keep them relevant. Vincent's last appearance of any kind was Advent Children, and his last game appearance that was released in the US was Dirge of Cerberus, seven years ago.

Oh, and I'm going to take a page out of Nick's book. Barret gets over 50% by the end of the match. Consider it CALLED.
