If Otacon is there, Crono wins. Day match. It's already been acknowledged that Chrono Trigger has an awful day vote, and Pokémon's got a very good one. Also, I feel as though the board keeps making excuses, and I feel like this bracket setup may have been done to facilitate that. There is, admittedly, no real way to gauge just yet how far Crono has fallen. In Rivalry Rumble, he was handicapped by the fact that the iconic antagonist of the series, Magus, is Frog's Rival. This got him put into the vote-ins, where he predictably crushed the various fodder, and then he was given to another Noble Niner in Round 1 allowing him to exit gracefully. 2010, he faced a "joke character" right off the bat, and the presence of Sephiroth so close by in the bracket meant that out of all the possibilities, few could lead to Crono looking bad. If Crono makes it to Sephiroth, Square overlap and a fellow N9er means Crono can't look bad no matter how awful his percentage is. If he loses to the newcomer, said newcomer only needs one more win to face another N9er, and even if Missingno loses, his strength is far from disproven. Crono merely lost to a newcomer that was stronger than expected (and again, day match between Chrono series and Pokémon.) 2009 Games Contest? Um...totally Square SFF with the more powerful FF7 that led to CT's third round exit against SM64, right? Wait, it lost to SM64 in R2, too, with another Mario game in the poll? Um...oh, but Crono was brilliant in 2008! Er, yeah, he did have a pretty favorable path, what with L-Block receiving venom for that upset championship the previous year and a Link-and-two-other-Nintendo-characters semifinal, but he managed to avenge his loss to Vincent the previous year in a situation where if anyone should've been getting SFFed, it would be Crono! (due to SNES overlap with Samus) ...You know what? Even that proves absolutely nothing. In the waning days of 1v1s, and even into the 4way era (in large part because he did beat Crono, shortly before L-Block proved that N9ers weren't as invincible in 4ways as in 1v1s), Vincent was christened the character that could break the Noble Nine. Look at Sephiroth-Vincent 2010. Now look at Sephiroth-Tifa 2010. Care to explain that? Vincent's weaker than he used to be, too. Heck, look at the seedings for this contest. Last time, Vincent and Tifa were both underseeded, an 8 and a 10 respectively. Tifa's a 7 this time, but Vincent's all the way down to a 23. He's been forgotten. don't think I've actually used a FAQ here in almost 10 years. I'm not
really a Youtube person but almost every game has wikis nowadays which
are far more detailed and user friendly than those old text files. |

I picked Crono over Pikachu without a second thought. I still think Crono holds his NN strength, and Pikachu has never been a reliable
pick against legit contenders. Plus I remember looking at LOL X-stats
and Crono just seems like the better pick. It also helps Crono that
votals are low. The old timers on the site are more likely to vote for
Crono. That being said, anything can happen. But I think you guys are just looking for something where there's really nothing. Like usual. P.S. I voted Fei cuz I have Sonic>Fei>Dan in my expert pick and I will NOT fall off the leaderboard. |

If Otacon is there, Crono wins. It's tough to tell where Magus and Frog originally were relative to each other. Frog made his debut in 2004, the year of the awful bracket where nearly every R2 match was an SFF match, and if it wasn't then the winner would probably face an SFF match in R3. Frog struggled to beat Liquid Snake, beat Master Chief by the smallest margin we've ever seen in a 1v1 battle (though there was a fourway in which the first- and second-place finishers were even closer, and far more meaninglessly, one where the third- and fourth-place finishers were just as close), and overperformed on sprite-round Solid Snake, while Magus got an easy win in R1 and then faced Crono, who pretty much killed him, but then made that look respectable by finally beating Mario and doing so fairly easily. With SFF an unknown, the adjusted X-stats basically just plugged in Magus's 2003 value, which was very high because he beat Ganondorf and performed unexpectedly well against Link. 2005, neither was impressive--Magus lost a close one to Knuckles, and Frog won a close one with Riku and failed to break 30% on Samus. Neither made 2006's split bracket, and 2007 saw both lose second-round matches with a N9er in first place. Magus's top 2 were Mario and Big Boss, each of which is probably stronger than their counterpart in Frog's, Samus and Scorpion. Frog's match probably had a stronger 4th place finisher, Midna as opposed to Phoenix Wright, but Midna would've been getting SFFed anyway. Their percentages were similar...I'd have to say Magus looked slightly better in 2007. Then 2008 happened, and while Frog didn't exactly beat anyone spectacular to reach R2, Magus lost in R1 to Sandbag. Advantage, Frog. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. You will be missed. |
