If anything should be giving confidence to people taking Crash > Wheatley, it's that modern characters have almost always struggled, if not outright bombed. Even the premier modern character couldn't manage a doubling on Captain Olimar, who is all-but confirmed to be bad fodder.

Not sure why you guys are so quick to calling this one over. Not until Jak hits the 500 vote barrier here. Keep in mind that Tiny Tina was down by several hundred votes yesterday.

Chie still has a chance, especially with a rabid fanbase like the Persona one here. With that said, Jak still looks likely to take the match though...

Well, Chie has to start doing some stalls soon. At this rate it'll be over well before we get into the late hours.

This definitely makes me feel good about my Spyro upset. I took Wheatley, but had Crash for awhile.

I don't think it's over and Chie will probably make some cuts overnight, but this isn't non-main Fire Emblem character here. Jak is a recognizable icon type of character. Granted he is not abundantly popular, but he will suck up casual votes far, far, far more easily than Tharja. I'm not even sure who the casual vote would have gone to in that match; in this match, it's very clear who it will go to.

I took Crash without a second thought in that match and have no idea why people took otherwise. He has never looked that bad in a contest and Wheatley will be far, far weaker than GlaDOS.

This match makes me feel better about picking Crash > Wheatley. We have Jak easily winning today's match. There is a parallel between Jak and Crash - they are both PlayStation platformer characters from 2 different generations. Crash is stronger than Jak and the night match will benefit Crash, since he is very strong in Europe.

I told myself that I wouldn't look at the results page for at least an hour so that I wouldn't jump to hasty conclusions based on early results. I can now breathe a happy sigh of relief that my prediction was correct.

I had Jak winning in my Bracket and Jak > Chie > Draven in my Expert Challenge. I really needed that +6 in order to recover and still have a shot in this contest. I was never confident in Draven, but I wasn't really that confident in Chie, either. I guess Persona has a bigger fanbase than LoL on GameFAQs.

So, what do you guys think of Phoenix v. Marth? My bracket has Phoenix, but the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking I should have taken Marth to win that match.

They're really close to each other on the 2010 x-stats, and Phoenix has hype surrounding his upcoming new title, but I can't help but feel like Marth's strength keeps getting stuck behind JRPG SFF. And Phoenix has never been exceptionally consistent.

I mean I could figure bracket/expert votes helped Draven, but I don't know how the hell a Personal character loses the board vote. This board LOVES Persona.

Yeah, his design will help voters make an instant connection to Portal in a way that GLaDOS's first contest appearances failed to do so. Also, it helps that he appears on screen in the introduction of Portal 2, unlike Gladdy in the 1st game.

Anyone else expecting the average Expert Challenge score for this match to be negative? I think the aggregate scores will decline because of this match. I feel like Expert brackets were likely all over the place, and in a random ordering the expectation is negative points.

BTW, what do people feel like with Shepard vs. Aeris now that we've seen both in action?

I feel like doubling Hero while getting LFFed (perhaps badly) by Rinoa is more impressive than doubling Olimar. Olimar is trash.

But then, we have no idea how strong Hero is. He also could be trash, though IMO he is above being turbofodder. Just plain fodder.

So I'm feeling somewhat confident in Aeris at the moment.

Well yes as I said that could explain Draven, but it doesn't really explain Chie losing the board vote. That's the most surprising aspect of the match to me (and I had Draven in my bracket...but him being turbofodder isn't surprising at all).
#479 | DoctorJimmy133 | Posted 7/11/2013 10:40:24 PM | message detail
I should have researched Draven and LoL more. In retrospect, picking a PC-only character in a massive ensemble cast of a game comparable to WoW over a semi-recognizable character was a terrible idea.

I really want Phoenix to win and was completely indecisive right before the contest start, so I took Marth. Either Phoenix wins a match or I get a point. Win-win. Same logic as the finale: Either Link doesn't win or I get 81 points.
