Analysis

First match of the contest where any of the three characters has a decent chance at winning the match. While the board seems to be favouring Tharja and largely ignoring Tina few people seem to be confident in the match and most are electing to bank the expert challenge.

Between the three characters Tharja seems to be second in the most factors while the other two flip between first and third; she’s from the second biggest game, she’s the second most relevant character in the game and depending who you ask she will benefit second most by the picture. While not excelling in any of the various factors she does benefit in most of them which is likely why she is the board favourite.

However, while Tharja is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Awakening the game has over 40 playable characters and she has almost no role in the story. It is true that she is a fan favourite and she is likely to perform better than the average character from the game, but I believe that she will suffer from ensemble cast syndrome like we have seen for Final Fantasy VI and Tales of Symphonia characters.

Lollipop Chainsaw would by far be the weakest game between the three games, but at least Juliet is the face of that game. She also had the benefit of a large media campaign when the game was released, of course that was about a year ago so the benefit now would probably be small. Juliet will also likely have the picture advantage going into the match; she is cheerleader with a chainsaw after all. Tharja is no slouch in the picture department though.

I am a bit surprised on the lack of support for Tiny Tina being from Borderlands 2 should have at least made people pause and think about the upset. She is a NPC, but when you have opponents likely to be as weak as this recognition is a key factor and given she is not hated by the fanbase (nor is she well liked for that matter) recognition can go a long way. Also to her benefit is that she was recently given a DLC which will only add to her being recognized.

I shudder to think about the vote total in this match, a night match to boot. I am going to hope for the picture factor dominating this match and go with Juliet, but Tiny Tina could very easily pull off the upset. I am not expecting much out of Tharja, she may be Nintendo, but she is an ensemble character on a 3DS game. She could win if her two opponents are legendarily weak, which is a possibility I guess.

Shouldn't Tharja be benefiting the most from being a night match? I was under the impression that BL2 and Lollipop Chainsaw were biggest in the US, while FEA was biggest in Europe and Japan.

Yes the night vote should belong to Tharja.

It's one of the reasons I picked her.

I keep flip-flopping between Juliet and Tina for second place. There's a good argument to be made for either of them, but without any poll info to go on, I just don't know.

I just keep looking at the the 2010 match between Zelda and Travis Touchdown and wondering to myself, "Would Tiny Tina get 30% on Zelda?"

Because I have to assume that Juliet Starling is weaker than Travis Touchdown.

No More Heroes was better received than Lollipop Chainsaw, despite the latter getting more marketing. In addition, Travis has two games under his belt to Juliet's one. Since casuals aren't a huge presence on this site, I think the intangibles fall in his favor, rather than hers.

i dunno, if you're even considering any of these to be near Travis in strength then pick that one for first, easily. i think Edgeworth would win this poll.

Does Mewtwo lose percentage with his new Croissant forme, and if so, by how much?

He would. Not enough to be anywhere close to losing that match, though.

I would compare the vote loss to Dante getting a DmC pic. There are a lot of people who quit the franchise after RBY or GSC, so a brand-new design would shed lots of nostalgia votes.

It's also from an unreleased game. A lot people who aren't up to date on Gen 6 won't have any idea what it is.

Yeah, that's my thought. Since all the matches are worth the same number of points, you can really only win by taking risks on the first round, where some matches are actually up in the air.

Which is REALLY going to suck if I lose this!

I'm going for it: Tharja > Juliet > Tina

That was my initial gut pick. I'm not confident, of course, but I still feel more sure than with the Draven,
Chie and Jak match. Gotta go for at least one of them, I think.

Don't disappoint me, FE fanbase.
