For example, in Link/Isaac/Tingle, Link will probably have fewer vote than normal due to the fact that people will vote for the character that they have in 2nd place in their expert challenge bracket. What
does surprise me with this poll is how badly Sandbag is doing. I mean,
it was the character that eliminated Magus in round 1 of the 2008
contest. Some of these characters probably would have done better with a
picture, as some voters probably don't recognize some of the characters

Pikachu > Crono is Round 2? With Crono's continued slip into obscurity and Pokemon being as popular as ever, AND with Pikachu having a clear day vote advantage, I wonder if this one can't be an upset with Pikachu winning. I always wonder which Pokemon from the original 151 would be the weakest. This may be true, at least as far as first appearances go... http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3691 ...Missingno made a big initial splash too with 2010's vote-ins. Mudkip, Jigglypuff, and Toad together couldn't hold the glitch back in this twelve-way poll. Today, Magikarp's thrashing this nine-way poll much harder despite Little Mac, Sandbag, Fawful, and Tingle (haw haw) in its way. Also notice Magikarp's beating Dan Hibiki worse than Missingno did despite Scorpion, Yoshimitsu, and Jigglypuff representing fighters as well. Different question and other factors, but it's still a joke-heavy Pokemon dominating a contest-related poll despite lots of Nintendo-characters. Missingno went on to upset Crono in the first round while Magikarp has Mega Man in Round One. I stated on the previous page (for those using 50 posts per page),
let's wait and see how Dan Hibiki does against Sonic. After the Sonic
match, we'll be able to compare Magikarp to Sonic through Dan Hibiki's
performance. Since Mega Man is slightly stronger than Sonic, it will be
an indicator on how well Magikarp does against Mega Man. I think there's also a chance that Magikarp is overperforming because some of the other characters are underperforming because there's no picture. Some of the characters in this poll would be doing better with a picture, because they struggle with name recognition. now I'm really starting to wonder if Magikarp is going to be the
bracket breaker because of the "let's vote for him because lol" factor. Then again, Mega Man is kind of a nerd favorite at the moment after he got freaking internally blacklisted by Capcom a few years back. A lot of support for the blue guy on many an Internet forum. Another argument is the "let's vote for this joke character because lol" factor I don't think will be as strong with 4chan no longer as relevant as it once was after Reddit took off in popularity (no idea if Reddit as a community is into rallying for polls like this). --- In Oz; cruel is the usual punishment. |

Now
that I'm thinking about it: if it wasn't for Magikarp going up against
Mega Man I would likely pick it to go to R2 and maybe beyond that
depending on what kind of mid-tier characters it would face. As it
stands, MM is so popular with the kinds of people that are passionate
about these kinds of contests that I cannot imagine them voting against
