Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1054

It's not so much I'm expecting Blue to be a powerhouse, its just the fact that you've got Fox and Wolf in the same match together. Blue totally has a chance to sneak through. Fox/Wolf aren't even heavy hitters like that.

Cecil might make that 9-pack interesting. Also Red has proven himself to at least have some strength. Overall I don't think people are giving Fox much credit.

Well if you want to use Rivalry Rumble, then since Fox/Wolf may have gotten a rivalry boost I have a feeling that Fox will SFF Wolf really badly. Heck, Fox would probably SFF any other Star Fox character really badly. Who really gives a darn about any Star Fox character other than Fox himself (I was about to say the man himself, lol Fox is not a man).

Also Fox is probably a high midcarder at this point, unless you think he has deboosted just like the rest of his Nintendo brethren.

Then again I only say he's a high midcarder because he's worth 30% on Cloud. By now a high midcarder is probably worth 35% on Cloud. Forget about that lol.

Blue does have a chance, but Wolf would have to hold up and I don't see that happening. I guess it may be possible for Blue to be stronger than Red.

Nope, don't think Fox is a high midcarder, that territory is probably more befitting for characters like Leon Kennedy, Zack, Kratos, Dante, Ryu, etc.

I'm siding with Fox as for now, but he's really not all that strong and with all those LFF weighing down on him, Blue might sneak in and secure a win.
#356 | Ytterbium_70 | Posted 6/10/2013 11:15:47 AM | message detail
Barely putting 60% on Tails isn't what I call a, "high midcarder"

Wouldn't take Fox over those guys either, but Red (or Blue) won't come close to them as well.

Fox vs. Tidus or Sub-Zero would be an interesting match IMO.

I was so worried that Aerith and Pac-Man wouldn't get in. Happy that both can get out of Round 1 and even have a shot at getting to the third round (slim on Pac-Man's end, but possible)!

Edit: But on an analytical level, does anyone think that Pac-Man has a shot at making it through to Round 3? If he and Game and Watch make it to Round 2, Pac-Man could take advantage of Nintendo LFF and sneak through, or if Blue takes advantage of LFF the round before, Pac-Man could just beat him and Lee straight up.

Tails possibly rebounded in strength or maybe he wasn't as awful as what the fourways had depicted. Yeah, that 61% was abit embarrassing, but i still think Kratos is around high-midcarder.

Damn, this is the second time that Bacon has decided to run 2 polls in one day outside of a contest setting. I can't imagine him putting a third poll immediately after Sony's conference because that conference happens very late in the evening. He'll probably wait until 12:00 AM EST to put up a poll related to Sony's conference. Although maybe he does 2 polls tomorrow, one for Sony's conference and another one right after the Nintendo Direct presentation.

How long have brackets usually up before closing by the way? Or, alternatively, has there been an official announcement regarding when this bracket will close?

If my memory is correct its usually like 2 weeks from when the full bracket is posted, which would place the date at about 6/24. That being said I know people here have better memories about these things then I do so I wanted to make sure

Okay whatever, I decided to take Nathan Drake over Fox again. Drake would own that match pretty much anywhere else on the Internet. It would be embarrassing to see GameFAQs stand by the Nintendo character who has practically nothing aside from Smash Bros. and a 15-year old game over the star of one of the biggest franchises this generation.

We usually have 2 to 3 weeks to fill out a bracket before they close. I'm going to take a guess and say this contest starts on July 1st. That would give us almost 3 weeks to fill out a bracket.

Okay, so I've seen some people justifying taking Clementine because of the Walking Dead's status as a hit TV show. Now, I've got to be honest--until this bracket went up, I didn't even know that there was a Walking Dead video game. I know that it's a popular TV show based on a comic book series, but that's it. Now, Clementine's first-round opponents aren't exactly strong, so she may win anyway. But anyone using the other arms of the multimedia franchise to justify their pick should remember how much the Star Wars name did for Revan and HK-47. Non-video game-related recognition doesn't seem to be worth a damn in this contest.

The Walking Dead is likely the strongest game of everything in that 9-pack aside from Twilight Princess and FFVII, possibly by a significant margin. I'd be real surprised if she failed to coast to 2nd place in the 2nd round.

...It's a point-and-click?

...Yeah, I'm not buying it having strength. I'd much rather debate whether the presence of a new fanbase that doesn't even realize he's been around longer than they have can help Spyro overcome the fact that his original fanbase no longer gives a s*** about him. Honestly, though, I expect low votals, a sub-40% mark for the winner, and about 7% in round 2.

I don't know what to make of Teemo. League of Legends is popular, but it's also a crap game that's completely irrelevant now that Dota 2 has hit its stride. That other LoL character I have never heard of (must be new) and can't see him doing anything.

Sorry BT; but one of the two biggest MOBAs replaced Starcraft in Korea, and it sure as hell was not DotA.

****, to give you an idea on how big LoL is...I live in South America and I've seen custom LoL T-Shirts here. For reference about the only and I mean ONLY series I've ever seen that had normal people wearing themed shirts is Mario. LoL is ****ing enormous and the single biggest game in the world. The problem with LoL is that all the characters are so cookie cutter from each other. Both in looks as well as ability. Dota 2 has way more depth in the hero pool and way more to it mechanically. LoL is like babby's first dota clone

If Dota 2's heroes have way more depth, then why did none of them managed to permeate into Internet culture yet like their fellow Valve comrades GLaDOS and the TF2 classes? That casual knowledge could help them... very negligibly to the point of non-factor. Which is to say I'm yelling at a cloud or something.

788 votes at the freeze. I have a feeling that this poll is very frontloaded and vote totals will drop back down to earth after the first hour or so. Because this insane pace we're on right now would put this poll on a path to surpass 50000 votes.

After the really insane start for this poll, we're only about 200 votes ahead of this year's age poll at this point in time. This poll is probably breaking 50000 votes unless this poll was extremely frontloaded at the start of the poll, but I don't see it finishing with more votes than the age poll. Or if Bacon decides to close this poll early to put up a new poll right after the Nintendo's Direct presentation.
