Another
flaw in 3-ways. Say you want to set up an Auron/Vincent/Squall. In a
3-way, that match plus the lead up to it will consist of 3 boring
matches for 1 good one. In a 1v1, there would be a best case scenario
ratio of 4 bad matches (all 3 of their round 1s plus one of their round
2s) to 3 good ones (the two matches between the three of them, plus a
possibly good match between two of the other seeds). That's a much
better number. --- "What's the matter with bootblacking? We both like it very much!" This is Yesmar. |

Link may have gotten weaker, but have the others gotten strong enough to do anything? General consensus is that team FF7 is weaker, and Snake was at his peak 4-5 years ago. So that leaves Mario. Which is hard to read, I don't know if he has gotten stronger or weaker, stayed the same, but regardless I don't see Link losing. --- http://i.imgur.com/32RNLnc.gif |
This
format is really weird if there are going to be 12-hour matches. If we
had 12-hour matches for round 1, that means the final match of round 1
would end at 12:00 PM EST. So I wonder if SB would start round 2
immediately after the end of round 1 or wait 12 hours to start up round
2. If he starts round 2 immediately after the final match of round 1,
that means the first match of round 2 would be a day match. So here's the possible set-up for switching from round 1 to round 2: 1. Final match of round 1 is a night match, with the match ending at 12:00 PM EST. Right after this match, there is a 12 hour gap with no matches going on. First match of round 2 is a night match starting at 12:00 AM EST. 2. Final match of round 1 is a night match, with the match ending at 12:00 PM EST. Once the final match in round 1 has been completed, we immediately go to round 2 with no 12 hour gap without any match going on. So the first match of round 2 is a day match starting at 12:00 PM EST. My prediction for the contest length: Round 1 - 12-hour matches (40.5 days) Round 2 - 12-hour matches (13.5 days) Round 3 - 24-hour matches (9 days) Round 4 - 24-hour matches (3 days) Round 5 (Final match) - 24-hour match (1 day) That would be a 67 day contest. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
GloriousSweater posted... I'm surprised anyone has the gall to consider any realistic contest match a "guaranteed loss" for Link. Yeah. Link's dominance is such that even with Mario in the match against Snake, it's a pretty bold (insane?) statement to say Link has no chance. But yeah I'm liking this more and more. Snake. Winning a contest. Awesome. --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |
the only way Snake comes close to winning a contest is if MGS5 is an e3 sensation. --- xyzzy |

BlAcK TuRtLe posted... ASV doesn't necessarily mean school. Most people get off work between 3-6 as well, and a lot of them are too busy/restricted from accessing GameFAQs at work. There was always some ASV, even in the summer, and that should get stronger as a result. For a very long time, I never saw any evidence that people getting home from work actually voted during the ASV. But last year on Leap Year Day, there was a poll that proved that people do vote during the ASV after getting home from work. This poll was the basis for a new voting period known as the "After Work Vote", or AWV. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
The Mana Sword posted... so how's all that being pessimistic being for you I will say that this could be a good/great contest, BUT out of the formats we've had it requires the best bracket-making skills. Setting up matches past Round 1 where any character can win* are going to be tricky to do without making the previous round boring. I mean, best of luck to Bacon, but he has his work cut out for him. *I mean obviously you don't HAVE to set up a lot of matches where all three could win, but if not what's the point of doing this format? --- "What's the matter with bootblacking? We both like it very much!" This is Yesmar. |
I'd say from now on just randomize the whole bracket for each seed... Overthinking this will not make anyone happier. --- Text and stuff and bla |
The Noble Nine being all the 1 seeds means the bracket is set up for an all Noble Nine final group. Hopefully we get Cloud vs. Mario vs. Snake --- Leonhart posting from his phone |
*Sees Link* I'm going to hate Bacon for the rest of my life. |
Oh
didn't check to see the 1 seeds have already been placed. Not the ideal
setup but hopefully we'll see Sonic, Mega Man, and Crono challenged. --- Leonhart posting from his phone |
The
only way Crono fails to meet up with Cloud and Snake is for someone
like Vincent, Squall, or Auron to be thrown into Crono's division as a 2
or 3 seed. I'm sure there are other characters that could threaten
Crono, but those 3 Final Fantasy characters are the biggest threat to
Crono right now. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Crono, the only Noble Nine to lose in all formats, bank on Bacon to carry out the screwjob. |
hey i started a poll series for the favorite of each seed: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/66367534 you should like, vote and bump it and love me and stuff --- ~Zen |
FateStayAlbion posted... #2 and #3 seeds tomorrow.... with 27 seeds, this will take 2 weeks to unveil the bracket at that pace. And then another few weeks to do your picks... we might not start the contest until after July 4th. My predictions on how long it will take to reveal the seeds: Today - 1 seeds 6/6/2013 - 2 and 3 seeds 6/7/2013 - 4, 5, and 6 seeds 6/8/2013 - 7, 8, 9, and 10 seeds 6/9/2013 - 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 seeds 6/10/2013 - 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21 seeds 6/11/2013 - 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 seeds So I think all the characters will be revealed by next Tuesday. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
I can't believe it. It really was 3ways. Here's hoping that each poll has six options rather than three. If it's done like the final round of UotY, with a +1 to one and a -1 to another, Link actually stands a chance of losing a match because both of the other two fanbases can unite against him. Let's say the final is Link/Cloud/Snake. If Link can't manage to actually get 50% of the positives, anti-votes could do him in. This has potential. But I'm confident that Bacon will screw it up. --- "Everyone has a dick although it may not be physical. You just have to learn to access it within your mind." - blindhobo13 |
To
be honest, I didn't want Link in the contest but if he's going with
this format, this noble-nine worshipping love-letter to contest
history, then I guess I can forgive it. It's a very tactful nod that
really needs Link to be in. I just hope that Allen doesn't take Link losing in the final (if it happens) as some kind of excuse to keep him around for future contests. But here, given what Allen was going for, I can live with it. I love the N9 getting all the 1-seeds in a 9-division tournament in Character Battle IX. It's gimmicky, but affectionate. --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |
Also, obvious bracket sculpting. Do you honestly believe that Crono boosted enough to regain 1-seed status when he was only a 4
last time? I'd be fine if he crafted the bracket so that each Noble
Niner was in a different division, but be honest about the seeds.
Crono's probably no higher than a 5, and Mega is probably a 3 (his seed
in both CBVIII and Rivalry Rumble iirc). --- "Everyone has a dick although it may not be physical. You just have to learn to access it within your mind." - blindhobo13 |
Oh,
it's incredibly obvious. I don't think anyone thinks Crono was in the
top 9 for nominations. But I personally don't care. I love the N9 all
getting one seeds. "Well-deserved", and a great nod. It'd be better if
The Streak was still intact, but ah well. --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |
...What if a Pokemon beats Cloud/Snake in Final Nine 2? Link/Charizard/Mario Finals will be so awesome right guys --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] |
Cloud/Snake/Missingno WHO YA GOT?! |
-LusterSoldier- posted... The only way Crono fails to meet up with Cloud and Snake is for someone like Vincent, Squall, or Auron to be thrown into Crono's division as a 2 or 3 seed. I'm sure there are other characters that could threaten Crono, but those 3 Final Fantasy characters are the biggest threat to Crono right now. You really think? Because given what we saw for the ones, there's a good possibility that the 2s will all be the next nine characters. I guess if he really wanted to give Crono an advantage, he could give Crono a division where the 2 and 3 seeds SFF each other--say, maybe, Bowser 2 and Luigi 3? Or be a little less blatant and use a non-Mario Nintendo character like Kirby for the 3. Crono/Bowser/Kirby 3-way, who you got? I'd take either one to beat Crono 1-on-1 right now, but in that threeway, I might take Crono. --- "Everyone has a dick although it may not be physical. Missingno MUST be a six seed. --- Agent Triple Zero at your service! The artist formerly known as greatone10. |
3ways no thanks, so much bad LFF going on. Why couldn't we get a 1v1 12 hour 128 entrant contest :( |
I
personally like that Bacon is making this contest sort of a tribute to
the Noble Nine. It's a nice "shows you he cares" touch. I'll be interested to see who the 2s and 3s are. Hopefully, Bacon gives Sonic, Mega Man, and Crono some good challengers in their divisions. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
The noble nine seeding is a good sign that Bacon is interested in making a good, debatable bracket. Also, considering the sheer number of entrants, we should hopefully get a lot of interesting round 1 matches. And it'll be a travesty if a 999 character doesn't make the bracket! |
so who do you think will be confirmed tomorrow / today --- XBL GT: Demon Ninja X2 "There comes a time in every man's or woman's life where they have to make **** up to cover their ass." - Hazama |
jacko_vdz posted... The noble nine seeding is a good sign that Bacon is interested in making a good, debatable bracket. What? Every N9 will make it to the division finals except for Crono and in the finals Link will win. What's even mildly debatable here? The only thing which can be debatable is Snake vs Cloud, which most likely will be in the favor of Snake, as Cloud is slowly fading away. |
Yeah the whole Nine theme is selling me on this contest more than anything --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |
As in, who do I think the 2s and 3s will be? There's always going to be characters who get way overseeded compared to their actual strength, but based on past history in noms and seeding, I'd expect the following characters to fall into those seeds somewhere: Squall Dante Sora Luigi Kirby Master Chief Kratos Phoenix Wright Commander Shepard Auron Barring some sort of further "tampering" of seeds, those guys should all be in that tier based on total noms. As far as who else could fall in that tier... Gordon Freeman Ezio Auditore Maybe Yuri Lowell depending on what Bacon decides to do with seeding and how many noms a character needed Leon Kennedy Ike Ganondorf Nathan Drake Maybe a CoD character Hard to say. I'm sure there will be a few overseeded characters in that group. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Wow today's poll is so freaking awesome xD |
spooky96 posted... jacko_vdz posted...The noble nine seeding is a good sign that Bacon is interested in making a good, debatable bracket. Not to speak to soon, but it's a heck of a lot more debatable than seeing Sonic/Crono/Megaman get fed to Link midway through the bracket. With this seeding there is a much greater chance of seeing the lower N9's go up against near elites like Squall/Vincent/Tifa/Charizard etc. |
The
weird thing is that it's going almost exactly like it did the first
time. It's like people don't pay attention to past POTD results! --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
I think we have to see what the rest of the bracket looks like first. For example, what happens if we have something like Cloud/Auron/Bowser in the division final. There could be some interesting division finals if there is a strong leech on the N9. I also wonder if Samus leeching Mario could cause him to lose in the Final 9. I don't think Megaman could pull it off, but it could be interesting with the right 3rd character. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if he just revealed the rest of the bracket on Friday. |

It'd
be really funny if given the whole point of this is to give Link
someone to drag him down we got a finals of Link vs. something like
Cloud/Tifa. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png RIP Paul Bearer. Ohhhh nooooo. :( |

I hope Squall is as far away as possible from Snake and FF7 this time. You and me both. 5 straight contests with Squall having to face Snake or Cloud at some point, and 7 contests overall. The only contests Squall hasn't had to face one of them are 2003 and 2005. Not surprisingly, those are two of his best runs! That, and 2010, where he ended up facing Snake anyway, but still. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Actually, 2007 was a pretty strong run, too. If only he could've beaten Sonic in one of those two tries. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |

Lost to Samus in 2003. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
If not for that Vincent loss in 2005, Squall would be in the rare company of those who have only lost to Noble Niners 1-on-1. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
