Would ASV even matter with most schools being done for Summer in 2-3 weeks?

By the time we start this contest, most schools would have already gotten out for the summer. They wouldn't even matter at all because the ASV is already so weak to begin with and is currently in danger of becoming dead.

Only 7% of the site is under 17 now and the ASV will be all but dead? Crono over Mario this year, there ain't no getting off of this train we're on!

I don't know what percentage of the site is currently 17 years old because they were stuck having to vote for 17-20. But if you counted 17 year olds as part of the ASV, we have about 10% of the site under 18 (a rough estimate).

My prediction on the future of poll trends after the ASV becomes dead:

1. Voters who traditionally voted during the ASV will now be voting during the DSV, since they are older now and no longer in high school anymore. The DSV will soon become the most important time period to keep an eye on.

2. More voters during the FNV since they are older now. This could affect games or characters that rely on their night vote to build up a strong lead in the first few hours.

3. As the SNV has much weaker ASV trends than the ASV itself, I expect less voters during the SNV as a result of the ASV being dead. A weaker SNV is actually a good thing here since it's easier for a game or character to pull out that last minute rally.

4. I do not expect any changes to the Power Hour, so nothing to worry about there.

5. Finally, this a controversial new time period, but I think we will soon have an After Work Vote showing up in the poll trends. After Work Vote (also known as AWV) is a concept similar to the ASV, but with working age people voting in the poll after coming home from work. For years, I had no evidence that working age people actually voted in the poll after getting home from work. Working age people usually voted before going to work or while they are at work. Last year on Leap Year Day, we saw evidence of the AWV in action:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdFpLZ1BsSllqdTQ0Yl91T0xsZ3ZYUUE&gid=1

In the poll updates, you can see that "Going to work" was using the night vote to come back against "Going to school". Using the BSV and DSV, "Going to work" was able to build up a lead of 1064 on "Going to school" before the ASV started. When the ASV started, "Going to school" was pulling off a comeback and easily cut 500 votes in less than 3 hours. It looked like "Going to school" was easily on pace to complete the comeback. But around 5:30 PM, we saw "Going to work" actually stalling "Going to school". The AWV is the reason why "Going to work" was stalling "Going to school" - people coming home from work started voting in larger numbers.

An after work vote would never as strong as the ASV for the reason that people don't finish work at the same time, we would see a trend though.

Before vote-ins I don't know how long it usually took before a bracket was released on average

Despite there being 200+ characters I still think vote-ins are decently likely knowing Allen

I have to assume the majority of people start their work day in the morning and complete their work day between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. So it's possible for an After Work Vote to exist. As of right now, only about 21% of GameFAQs is over the age of 28. As that percentage continues to increase over the years, we'll start seeing the After Work Vote on a more regular basis.

I would not expect any sort of strong trends in any way, shape, or form for any sort of "after work" vote. For one, people don't get off at the same time every day like they do with school. People don't work exclusively Monday to Friday either. And there's no reason to believe that "people getting off work" would favor any particular character or series above another.

So basically this is going to amount to nothing.

I have to agree with charmander. We have very limited data on this "After Work Vote" concept I came up with earlier, so that means we've got no idea what characters and games will perform well with this new trend. All I have is trends from 2 different polls showing evidence that we might have an "After Work Vote" trend in the polls. Both polls are non-contest polls.

If I had to guess, the After Work Vote would likely favor older established characters and games, especially games that have a lot of nostalgia. More recent characters and games would likely struggle with the After Work Vote. The After Work Vote consists of voters over the age of 25 who have a full-time job and these voters are much more likely to have played the most popular games from the 1980s and early 1990s. Because of this, I expect games from the 1980s and early 1990s to perform best with the After Work Vote.

In order to get a good read on the After Work vote, you'll have to find correlations of character popularity in various income/education brackets. For instance, people who work lower-wage jobs usually have a more variable work schedule (retail and so forth), so if you want to predict the effects of an AW vote, you'll need to know the voting preferences of the more wealthy GameFAQs users.

That said, if there's anyone who gives enough of a s*** to actually find out that data to predict the effects of an After Work vote, it's Luster. Maybe petition Bacon for an income poll?

We don't even need to do that, we just do what we did in 2004, observe voting trends and see if there is a correlation.

There's more likely to be more variation among working people than among school aged people, so again, I expect this to be much ado about nothing.
