Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1051 ("Holy Crap An Actual Contest" Edition)
-LusterSoldier- posted... Finally got around to updating the Board 8 wiki page for the suggestion list: Great job keeping this up to date Luster! --- thengamer.com/guru thengamer.com/xstats board8.wikia.com For your consideration: Lee Everett - The Walking Dead |
Holy
s***, insane trends in today's poll. I didn't bother tracking poll
updates on this poll because I didn't think there would be insane trends
in this poll. But apparently, this is what the poll results looked
like at 2:00 AM: I'm outside right now, voting from the great outdoors 1.3% 91 Just in the last hour or two 31.23% 2190 Earlier today, it's been a few hours 46.49% 3260 Yesterday, I haven't been out today 14.62% 1025 Sometime in the last week or two, not that long 4.22% 296 It's been more than a few weeks for me 0.66% 46 I can't even remember when I was last outdoors 1.48% 104 TOTAL VOTES 7012 Compare that to right now, and the percentages have gone through a major transformation. If this poll is re-run in the future, I will be prepared to track poll updates. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
LeonhartFour posted... They are unique nominations for each character. Not necessarily 1,000 people since I'm sure lots of people haven't used all their noms. Also, they're unique IDs, so if you delete a nom, it doesn't get removed from the count. So Luster's incessant checking is actually artificially inflating the number of noms. --- NGirl@work or on phone. |
Checking
the current nomination total would have very little impact on inflating
the number of noms considering I check the nomination total about once
or twice a day. Compiling the full list of characters in the suggestion database would have inflated the nomination totals, though. Since I'd have to delete them from my list so I have enough room to check every possible ID number for the characters in the suggestion database. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Luster,
any poll dependent on time of day will hace massive trends. People
voting last night would have much more reason to say "today" than
yesterday while everyone who votes in the morning probably hadn't been
outside yet but did yesterday. That should account for the massive
changes. And I'm sure as each time zone's late night crossed into
morning similar things did/will happen. |
In
that 2:00 AM update I posted in this topic, the "Earlier today" option
had a lead of 2235 over "Yesterday". Despite that massive lead, we
could see "Earlier today" blow the lead after building up a commanding
2200+ lead. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Expect yesterday to collapse for the rest of the day too. --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/Rivalry%20BOP.xls Congrats to SuperNiceDog for winning the guru contest. |
At 11:38 AM, "Earlier today" finally lost the lead to "Yesterday". charmander6000 posted... Expect yesterday to collapse for the rest of the day too. By the looks of it, that collapse is happening right now. Looks like "Yesterday" is going to collapse with the ASV. Although "Earlier today" is still collapsing hard, so it won't be able to take advantage of Yesterday's collapse to retake the lead again. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
I'm still waiting for the poll question "what time is it right now?" . --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those! It could be fun! So... what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
I think that poll would make Luster literally implode. --- Current Let's Play: Final Fantasy V - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3529748 Previous: http://lparchive.org/author/mega64 |
Haste_2 posted... I'm still waiting for the poll question "what time is it right now?" . The trends for that poll would be decided through a combination of different countries around the world (thanks to timezones), and the current time constantly changing over the course of the entire poll. While that poll would have extreme trends, the continent poll is still number one in extreme trends. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

This will be the contest where Guybrush Threepwood finally faces someone he can win over! --- Ngamer64: Zylo, you're making less sense every day. SuperNiceDog > Me |
Even more extreme might be "Google the time in New York. What time does it say?" --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those! It could be fun! So... what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
Huh,
so it looks like "Earlier today" was able to take the lead over
"Yesterday" again, by taking advantage of Yesterday's collapse with the
ASV. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
The picture choices are excellent I love it --- ~Zen |
I'd take either the top row or the top right to bottom left diagonal as being the most likely IMO --- Watch me play games! http://www.livestream.com/dabu |
KamikazePotato posted... Who wants to play some bingo? hah did you just make that? --- http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4343/narm2.gif |
Had to bone up on my photoshop in preparation for the contest! --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
You
should make it a serious thing when the bracket is released (and
assuming it's still 1v1, 128 characters and stuff) And have everyone
pick their rows before the first match begins then just keep the topic
bumped --- http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4343/narm2.gif |
I'm
not even sure what I would I would need to change from the board right
now. Everything seems pretty possible! Except the Jill thing. Maybe I could post it on the board and see what people might want to include on it. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
KamikazePotato posted... I'm not even sure what I would I would need to change from the board right now. Everything seems pretty possible! Except the Jill thing. Top left to bottom right is too much of a gimme I think - if Link is in it's basically a free Bingo. I'd switch something out for another slot, but otherwise it looks pretty good! |
I have a problem with bingo square #21. We're never hitting 80000 votes again, are we? |
We're gonna hit that by the finals for sure. I wouldn't worry. |
http://i.imgur.com/4JqtSuQ.png Is that Yuna by Master Chief's side? Master Chief is doomed when Tidus finds him... :P |
TheOneAboveAll posted... I have a problem with bingo square #21. We're never hitting 80000 votes again, are we? Probably never going to happen again. We've only gotten above 50000 votes once this year because of a huge increase in traffic on April Fool's Day, judging by one of Bacon's GWAR topics. As of right now, our average vote totals this year are 38188. But if you don't count the GotY polls, that average increases to 39449. I guess we could get above 80000 votes if there is a match that has an extreme amount of rallying (like the 2007 final match with L-Block). --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Hey now, Seifer's got a great chance of getting in this year with how low noms are! Also Vincent wasn't an NRT winner in 2005. That was Tifa. --- http://gifsoup.com/view/874243/big-boss-o.gif |
LeonhartFour posted... Hey now, Seifer's got a great chance of getting in this year with how low noms are! I'll have to remove that panel anyway once the contests starts because it doesn't work once we've seen the bracket, but I couldn't resist poking some fun at certain characters. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Still
no banner...I am sure at least few people submitted some, SBAllen
should choose the best one and use it, a banner would help with the
nominations and excitement for the contest --- ... |
From: KamikazePotato | #131 I'll have to remove that panel anyway once the contests starts because it doesn't work once we've seen the bracket, but I couldn't resist poking some fun at certain characters. Technically, it'd be a space that would be filled once the bracket is unveiled if someone fails to make it. --- "Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!" |
Bacon says he will have a banner when the contest page goes up. He's probably making one. I don't know why I wasted time making my own. Something tells me that after nobody submitted anything but me and Ulti last year that he won't be taking user banners this year. --- ~Zen |
Probably not, unless the game turns out to be amazing. Everyone knows Pac-Man. --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/Rivalry%20BOP.xls Congrats to SuperNiceDog for winning the guru contest. |

Silly
question, but is Q*bert on the noms list? He's not someone that people
think of at first, but I wonder if Wreck-it Ralph has made him
noticeable enough to do well. |
Think
the one square should be changed to "Stats topic vastly overestimates
Pokemon". Or am I the only one that remembers the hilarious expectations
of Pokemon Gold in this topic from the last Game Contest. --- Game of the decade? More like Guru of the decade mirite? However, the Guru of the next decade so far is SuperNiceDog |
Pokemon Gold was expected to win a close match against MGS3 which, based on how Majora's Mask ended up doing, was correct! I really want to see RBY in a 1 v 1 contest setting. The GotD contest made it's past performances look ridiculous. I mean, http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3462 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4195 Man. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I
go to a school where one of the majors is Game Design, and a good chunk
of the Game Design Majors were like "that movie was great but what's a

Forget GotD. Red/Blue vs. Cloud/Seph makes R/B/Y 1v1 look absurd. Also Q*Bert is/was/would be terrible fodder that never needs to sniff a contest again. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png RIP Paul Bearer. Ohhhh nooooo. :( |
