It's an artistic choice. CHARACTER BATTLE IX is simply too long to just squish into the corner. I'm working on the third and final one now. I have no idea what it's going to be. --- ~Zen |

For
Character Battle 2010, it took a minimum of 196 nominations to get into
the bracket and avoid the Vote-Ins. However, there were around 90000
nominations for Character Battle 2010. If we got 20000 nominations for this contest, it would only take 44 nominations to get into the bracket (assuming everything is directly proportional). Red
Bird was added to the noms list? That should be interesting. Angry
Birds probably has some decent inherent strength to begin with and could
get extreme joke/bandwagon strength on top of it. |
It
is actually popular with 12 year olds. My stepsister and friends sister
both say that literally everyone in their schools plays it and loves
it. That said, that fan base doesn't come to gamefaqs. It also isn't really funny enough to be a joke like a Tetris piece, and I think any joke votes it would get would be countered by the hardcore gamers that hate its casual appeal. The bird is also subject to extreme sff, as everyone has played it, and it really doesn't have any impact or give any reason to be voted over any other character. If it gets put in a winnable match, we'll probably overestimate it and it'll get thrashed. --- ~Zen |

pretty much of the same mind as Zen on this one. Yeah, everyone is
familiar with Angry Birds, but this isn't really the type of site that

don't get League of Legends. When I was at PAX East, the booth was
always PACKED. As in like, packed so tight that it was literally
impossible to get in. And it was a pretty open booth, too. It was always
super loud and people were always jumping up and down. I have friends
that play it, so I stopped by to get some swag, and while I was there,
someone actually proposed on stage to their girlfriend. Then they started awkwardly making out while everyone cheered them on. But I tried watching the gameplay and I just don't get it. It doesn't look fun. What is the appeal? --- ~Zen |
I feel a joke rally is quite possible for the angry bird, but he would still need a fodder opponent to have a chance. I don't play LoL anymore (now onto Dota 2), but basically, think of it as a PvP RPG with infinite replayability. Every match is a new game where you start at level 1 and get gradually more and more powerful and get access to more and more powerful of items. And there are tons of different characters to play, all of whom lead to different playing styles. In Dota 2 for example, there are ~100 different heroes available to play at all points, all having a unique set of 4+ skills. There are different ways to go about skilling each of these characters (some more effective than others), and plenty of different item builds you can use successfully on each. And
to add to that: LoL is basically the only game out there that has the
depth of a fighting game without the insane barrier of entry of that
genre, so you can see yourself improve in really obvious ways, make
really impressive plays, and do so without spending days and days
grinding out your muscle memory. I've spoken to pro players, and they
all agree that it's really closer to Street Fighter than Warcraft. So
basically, take fighting game hype, add tons more accessibility, the
single best company/customer relationships in the gaming industry, a
rapid update cycle and it's no surprise everybody plays it. I'm really
curious about what draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaven will be able to do if he gets
in, really. |
LoL
is essentially a strategy game, so it's much better to watch when you
have an idea of what's going on and the decisions that each player is

In
the unlikely event that we get a tag team contest, I might like to see
Link/Tanner vs. Mario/Snake. While Mario/Snake would in all likelihood
win that match, and probably fairly easily, if Link/Tanner were to win I

Oh
man. I can picture it. Mario/Snake get out to a 1000 vote lead, only
to have Link rip it away with the day vote and build up an 800 vote lead
of his own. Mario and Snake are both really good with the endgame and
they start a big really in the last 2 hours of the match. By the last
half hour, they are going berserk. Mario/Snake cut 100 votes in the
final 5 minutes and lose by 10, because LINK ALWAYS WINS. --- Congratulations to SuperNiceDog, Guru Winner, who was smart enough to pick your 7 time champion, Link. |
