GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1051 ("Holy Crap An Actual Contest" Edition)
Thinking
about things, if Bacon was counting vote-ins when he said over 200
characters it's possible that there is a bye system. So the 1 and 2
seeds get byes and end up taking on the winner of an eight-entrant
division. This would increase the amount of characters in the bracket by
16*, which is probably just enough to push the entrant number over 200,
if you are counting characters in the vote-ins. And it would only
extend the contest by a week or so. *Or by 24 if say the 2 and 3 seeds get byes to face the winners of eight entrant divisions, and then the 1 seeds go on to face the winners in the round after. Example: Division 1 from 2010 get rearranged as: Duty Division 1) Captain John Price 8) ~NEW CHARACTER~ 4) Alucard 5) Revolver Ocelot 3) Magus 6) Mega Man X 2) Pokemon Trainer Red 7) Thrall WINNER: Faces Luigi next round Goddess Division 1) Amaterasu 8) ~NEW CHARACTER~ 4) Shadow the Hedgehog 5) Meta Knight 3) Sandal 6) The Boss 2) Weighted Companion Cube 7) ~NEW CHARACTER~ WINNER: Faces Nathan Drake next round. -Luigi/Duty Winner then goes on to face off against Goddess/Drake winner, and the winner of that faces Link in the round after. Obviously seeds would have to be mixed around to get more exciting matches, but hopefully you get the idea. --- "What's the matter with bootblacking? We both like it very much!" This is Yesmar. |
I just can't stop laughing at "Duty Division" lol --- Nominate your favorites for The Great GameFAQs Character Battle IX contest: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/nominate_entry |
Just
had a nightmare that the bracket came out, and the twist was "inde
revolution" and the bracket was split into 100 mainstream characters and
100 indie characters. it was filled with fodder and everyone hated
bacon who admitted to only coming up with the idea to include an indie
character named "the suede" The best part was that we projected Chester to get to round 4 where he'd bow out gracefully to Lloyd Irving. --- ~Zen |

From: -LusterSoldier- | #454 The link to the nomination form disappeared from the front page. I assume nominations will be closing very soon. Even if they close, isn't Allen working on moving the site over to v13 early this week? I'd assume that would probably push brackets back until Friday. --- -.. --- - ... / .- -. -.. / -.. .- ... .... . ... |
From what I can tell, he is most likely to move the site over to v13 sometime during this week. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Why bother closing nominations if you aren't going to make the bracket right after though? --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |
From: pjbasis | #459 Why bother closing nominations if you aren't going to make the bracket right after though? He's got other things on the site to do, so having noms finalized means he can piece the bracket together at his own pace. Of course, you'd want the bracket ASAP after noms close, but yeah. --- "The great GF...Bahamut." "...GF? I...? Using my powers...It is you humans...I fear..." |
Assuming no vote-ins I don't expect to see the bracket until Friday. --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/Rivalry%20BOP.xls Congrats to SuperNiceDog for winning the guru contest. |
I'd say Friday at the earliest with or without vote-ins. --- http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/2369/mythbattlers.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/Sensui22/1248835958206.png |
Figure counting is probably going on tonight and tomorrow's poll will be the first set of vote-ins. --- "Everyone has a dick although it may not be physical. You just have to learn to access it within your mind." - blindhobo13 |
I
kind of hope there aren't vote-ins with how few nominations there were
and how many characters are going to be in the contest. It would
probably be stuff like obscure VN characters vs Toadette vs other stuff
that wouldn't get many nominations at all. --- http://myanimelist.net/animelist/swordz9 |
I got division name ideas. Morph Ball Division Pallet Town Division Kanto Division Biohazard Division TM / HM Division Venom Division Gnorc Division (as if Spyro would ever be a 1 seed. x_x) World 1-1 Division --- R.I.P. GrapefruitKing Never Changing This Signature. Started Since May 14, 2013. |

He probably do not have the time to set up the bracket yet. |
I need the bracket :-( --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |
Expanding off an idea I read earlier in this topic, this is how I think the contest will work. First match is three random characters who made it in(for the purpose of bracket making, the randomization would happen before the contest, and we'd know the order going in) in a triple threat. Twelve hour match from noon until midnight, EST. Winner is the champion. Person with lowest vote total is eliminated. Then there's another triple threat with three more random characters. Again, twelve hour match, midnight to noon. Winner gets a title shot, other two are eliminated. Next match is the champion, the person who wasn't eliminated from the title match, and the winner of the second match. Same as before, twelve hour match, winner wins/retains championship, person with the lowest vote total is eliminated. Three more random contest entrants are thrown in a triple threat match, and so on, and so forth. --- Ace Detective in Sir Chris' Police http://i.imgur.com/BthaLsp.gif |
Eh, I don't think Bacon would do random orderings. Even in 4-ways, there was evidence he did bracketing based on seeding. Regardless, 3-ways would not be that interesting. --- http://i.imgur.com/fe05x.png http://i.imgur.com/stNJf.png |
Later
title match prediction boxes would allow you to either select "Winner
of Contender's Match," "Winner of Last Title Match," or "Second Place of
Last Title Match" for one point, or go for a specific character for an
exponential bonus if you're really confident. --- Ace Detective in Sir Chris' Police http://i.imgur.com/cuD4Yfy.jpg |
Current nomination total - 25971 Thanks to Bacon not closing nominations yesterday, we're going to break 26000 nominations. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Yeah, thanks Bacon. Honestly, with the link not on the front page anymore, I think we're at a point where more of the increase to that number is thanks to people switching their existing nominations . --- Ace Detective in Sir Chris' Police http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1417/nighthawks1575201136223.jpg |

It
was, what, four days between when he gave us the nomination form topic
and when he officially announced it on his own board and put a link on
the frontpage? Probably ends Saturday, then. Again, only the Board 8 diehards will actually be looking for it. I don't know whether to be happy that our input is valued so much or angry that he's d***ing us around like this. (Also, having a Board 8-only period at the end of nominations doesn't have nearly the same effect as having one at the beginning, because we're mostly just doing vote trades now and our "ideas" won't actually influence anyone who isn't on the board anyway the way we could when he was using our nominations to update the database.) Edit: Just thought of another idea for what the "twist" might be. The "never specifically said 256" was just a red herring, and it is 256, but...it's a divided bracket like in '06. 128 characters that have been in past contests on one side and 128 newcomers on the other. (Note: This is also incredibly stupid. The returners winner, who would probably be Link yet again, would undoubtedly stomp the newcomers winner. The fact that technically speaking, we wouldn't have the same tired faces in the Sweet 16/Elite Eight wouldn't make it any more interesting--and besides, we had a contest newcomer in the Elite Eight in CBVIII, so that kind of ruins the argument for that.) --- "Everyone has a dick although it may not be physical. You just have to learn to access it within your mind." - blindhobo13 |
I think the fact that hes also worrying about v13 is slowing things down --- Want any VNs pre-patched? PM me. List of VNs can be found by clicking on my username. |

Still not sold at all on voteins actually being a thing this time. --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |
XIII_socks posted... Still not sold at all on voteins actually being a thing this time. Of course they will be. That way he can reveal that the "200+" included vote-ins, and the main bracket itself is 192 contestants, 6-way battles, top three advance. Or something equally stupid. --- "Everyone has a dick although it may not be physical. You just have to learn to access it within your mind." - blindhobo13 |
6-ways
are even more terrible than 4-ways. If the bracket has 192 characters,
I would imagine a format in which round 1 is 3-ways and only the winner
of each match advances to round 2. Round 2 and the later rounds would
be 1v1 matches. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

man I had a dream where the gimmick was that the matches ended when a
