GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1050
According to Allen the shirts have been selling pretty well. So is that 100 Karma per shirt purchase I wonder? --- NO! NO! NO! |
I doubt it. We could only get one username change per shirt, this should be the same. username change was a good reward but karma is not worth it. --- ... |
Your reaction: Bacon announces a Contest, a Character Battle at that, but the prizes are ALL Karma rewards personally I'd just take a Contest announcement as a sufficient victory >_> --- NO! NO! NO! |
I am OK with Karma prizes, I am also fine with no prizes at all. It was actually suggested once to Bacon and he said he would not make a contest if there were no monetary prizes --- ... |
Yeah, I asked Bacon about that one time and he would never do something like that. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdEI3UFRRTVZ1ZW1sMmd0OHk3NnNRNVE&gid=1 PSN was pretty much in control for the entire poll. Out of the 288 5 minute updates (including the first 5 minutes as a single update), Xbox Live only won 28 updates and had a tie on 4 updates. PSN won the other 256 updates. The largest cut by Xbox Live was a 13 vote cut, which happened twice in the poll. Now for the trends: Nintendo Network - Had the most consistent trends over the course of the entire poll. The only thing that really stands out is the SNV. PlayStation Network - Started out with a below average board vote, but then it bounced back with a 2.51% gain on the first update after the freeze. Overall, PSN finished the Power Hour with a percentage that was almost identical to the final result. Despite PSN's strength in Europe, Asia, and Oceania, its night vote and early morning vote were only slightly above average. PSN reached a maximum percentage of 52.65% at 6:35 AM before it started going back down again. After 6:35 AM, PSN would consistently lose percentage for the rest of the poll. The DSV and ASV were slightly below average here. PSN performed worst in the SNV. Xbox Live - It performed best with the board vote and SNV. After the freeze happened, Xbox Live fell below 39% on the next update, although it got above 40% before the end of the Power Hour. The night vote and early morning vote were the worst time periods for Xbox Live. Xbox Live's lowest percentage was 38.78% at 6:35 AM. After 6:35 AM, it started going back up in percentage again. Slightly before the start of the ASV, Xbox Live had a percentage of 39.78% at 2:10 PM and then started going back down again. During the early part of the ASV, Xbox Live had difficulty in gaining more percentage. But after 5:05 PM, Xbox Live went back to making consistent gains in percentage for the rest of the poll. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

Thoughts on a few things: -We shouldn't retire the stats topic. On the remote off-chance that we get another one, we'll want it to be here. Plus, this is a good 'hub' for what contest discussion does take place. -We should probably be glad that "I like a good mix of the above" was in the poll. I think sometimes we overestimate the extent to which people outside of board 8 care about the contests. With these results, we can realistically claim that 60% would be fine with another contest. We might not be able to do that with an 'untainted' poll that lacks the final option. -Not only would I be fine with 'all-karma' prizes, I actually think it might be the best thing to happen to these contests. Chances are the big delay is being caused by lack of administrative approval. If Bacon didn't have to scrounge out the funds for it, we might be able to get a bunch of contests with quicker turnaround than the prizes. Also, anyone who posts in the stats topic and says that they only play these things for the money is probably kidding themselves. I've gotten more than $200 worth of enjoyment out of the contest, (or whatever the prizes are now) and I'd just as soon remove the prizes altogether if it meant we got more of them. --- Fan of Castlevania/Metroid/Eccco the Dolphin? Want a great 2D adventure game? Aquaria is worth your $10 http://store.steampowered.com/app/24420/ |
It would also deter vote stuffers if there is no monetary prize. |
^
Why? Most vote stuffers don't stuff to screw a few people out of money,
but more for rallying their favorites/the sheer hilarity of it all. --- Current Let's Play: Final Fantasy V - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3529748 Previous: http://lparchive.org/author/mega64 |
Most, but not all. It certainly wont increase the stuffers. |
That's
because most of the people who'd vote stuff have little reason to care
about a video game contest that's ran for over ten years now. We're not
going to have another L-Block moment where the entire internet rallies
around it, and I doubt sites likes 4chan will even give a s*** about a
GameFAQs contest since they can't stuff nearly as easily as they can
Gamespot's contests. --- Current Let's Play: Final Fantasy V - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3529748 Previous: http://lparchive.org/author/mega64 |

L-Block
was in 2007, 5 years and 4 months after the start of first contest.
It's been 5 years and 7 months since L-Block's run. Huh. Hard to
believe. I don't know what to say, but that makes me feel very sad. --- Congratulations to SuperNiceDog, Guru Winner, who was smart enough to pick your 7 time champion, Link. |
Maybe a character/game contest every 2-3 years would be best. See how voters felt about character contests in 2003: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1368 Having 1-2 contests a year for so long got everyone jaded, I guess. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those! It could be fun! So... what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
A
Character contest every 2 to 3 years might sound like a good idea to
keep the casual users from getting tired of seeing character contests
too often, but in order to still have a contest every year despite doing
character contests every 2 to 3 years, that would mean having to come
up with some other original contest ideas during the years without a
character contest or games contest. That might end up producing
contests as bad as Rivalry Rumble. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

We are also wrapping up the details on something else that people have
been clamoring for a while for, which we'll tell you about as soon as we
can. If by "people" he means B8, it had better be a Contest or we're just never getting one. "as soon as we can" probably means 2-3 weeks unfortunately. --- NO! NO! NO! |

Based
on this poll right now, Wii U ownership by the end of this year will be
29.14% if all of the voters for the Wii U options actually get their
Wii U before the end of this year. Of course, some of these voters
already have their Wii U. It's going to be tough to say how many voters
for the Wii U options will actually buy the Wii U before the end of
this year. And on a related note, this poll also projects a potential ownership rate of 34.26% for the PS4 and 14.74% for the Xbox 720 before the end of this year. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

ffmasterjose posted... So I'm a tad confused here. Are the PS4 and the next Xbox supposed to come out by the end of 2013? The PS4 has been confirmed to come out before the end of this year.
