Excellent poll! Skyrim's a beast. Ignoring the Nintendo-SFF, it's laying a strong beating on ME2 right now to easily be the site's biggest WRPG. It usually folds against Nintendo competition but is doing quite well for itself here. It might end right around ME2 here despite two stronger Nintendo games holding back. It's
dawning on me right now that not only did a jRPG never win GOTY this
generation, but the only one to even come close was barely released in

Skyrim's in a similar position since it's an RPG dominating SSBB/LoZ:TP/SMG fighting it out among themselves. very surprised at Mario Galaxy's performance in this poll, especially
in how it's managing to avoid getting SFF'd so badly by Brawl/TP like
usual. Only two explanations for how this could happen: -Metroid Prime and/or Wind Waker not being present in the poll does far more to help Galaxy than you'd expect. -Galaxy has gotten a good boost since GOTD and is possibly only a step or two behind the strongest games in its series. -Galaxy is now the most critically acclaimed game of all time according to Gamerankings, so it boosted just like that! On the other hand, ye gods I expected much better from ME2 (currently the #2 game on unikgamer). What the heck is going on here? And no I don't buy two WRPGs sharing a fanbase...or I guess I probably would not have during BGE2009 (when we had WoW vs. Oblivion) - maybe now it makes more sense given how WRPGs are huge on this site. Then again, I would never have expected Skyrim to kill ME2 this badly. Welp, ME2 > Mario Galaxy now. nice showing by Galaxy here. I'm rather impressed. Skyrim is a beast,
of course. ME2 doubling up Borderlands makes ME3 look worse (as does
Borderlands 2's showing in general). at the same time I'm kind of bummed out because we missed out on Mass
Effect's peak and really seeing what ME2 could have done in a contest.
Same with Shepard, although I suppose we did see him shortly after ME2

That should shut up the few Skyrim doubters that were still out there. Even with all the LFF going on, it still also shows that any Brawl drop is just wishful thinking from the anti-fans and is simply another case of Board8 hearing itself in an echo chamber about how everybody hates Brawl. Granted, it's possible it still dropped, but it's still top of the Nintendo heirarchy and scoring an easy second, currently putting up 38.61% on Skyrim despite the LFF. I'd be very interested to see Brawl/Skyrim in a contest setting, as they're the two strongest games of their generation. hey, cool poll. it's like Allen was reading this topic/my mind! Skyrim showing it's legit. this poll is 3 Nintendo games, 3 WRPGs and MW2, and the WRPGs are winning in percentage. Skyrim and ME2 can hold its own against Brawl/TP/Galaxy, too. I'm sticking with my thoughts yesterday that Skyrim could hang with Brawl at the very least, and is a top 10 game on this website. --- xyzzy |

was sceptical of Skyrim holding its 2011 strength but 27% against this
competition is no joke. It has won every poll it has appeared in

Lightning Strikes posted... MGS4 sucks. Sucks is way too absurd to say about the game. i agree that acts 1/2 had some great gameplay. Act 3 was probably the worst since it was just a covert follow/escort mission type. Act 4 was more for nostalgia and story than anything else, its gameplay though was pretty boring and non existent though. Act 5's gameplay of getting inside the ship + gunfight with the frogs + screaming mantis was pretty great. Good combination of stealth, action, and a decent boss fight. I'll admit MGS4 is the weakest in the series, but honestly the first two games are just really damn good. MGS3 I felt the series was somewhat getting weaker, although im pretty sure its by far the favorite one on b8. |

While BL2 was never going to be competitive, there are a few factors to consider: 1) It relies on multiplayer while SSBB is in the poll. 2) It's part WRPG while ME2 and Skyrim are in the poll. 3) It's part FPS while CoD:MW2 is in the poll. nah, that's excuses for BL2. it's just not on the level of these other games. and this is just personal opinion, but BL2 will fade fairly quickly once the zeitgeist of the game dies off. I don't think people will look back on it in 10 years as an all-time game like you would a Skyrim or a Galaxy. --- xyzzy |

Brawl are close as is. I think they're all pretty close together. I'd
probably be the guy picking Skyrim to lose a round early. It worked
with Prime > HL2. It's a big wager with this game; either this poll
strength translates to contests and it can beat anything released 2001+,
or it will be hit with a "Western game handicap" against Nintendo in a

Well, he ran Game of the Decade polls before that contest. There's still hope! I personally think that Game of the Generation would be the single best option for a contest, especially if it starts around Spring when big name games like Tomb Raider and Revengeance have come out. GOTG is inferior to a game contest with FF7 and OOT removed. here's a random round of 16 you could see: Chrono Trigger Mass Effect 2 Brawl Mario 64 Final Fantasy X Mario 3 Pokemon RBY LTTP Melee Final Fantasy 6 Skyrim Majora's Mask Metal Gear Solid Super Mario World Resident Evil 4 Metroid Prime and this is leaving out FF8, Zelda 1, Goldeneye, Mario Kart, MGS3, Oblivion, etc edit: forgot LTTP so I switched TP with it --- xyzzy |

Any
contest where the final isn't pretty much the same dull match is fine
with me. Even if strength changes over time BGE would still have a high
chance of the same boring final rematch that has ended the same way for
