If Mitt Romney can't even win a GameFAQs poll, how does he intend to win the election

This poll says nothing about Mitt Romney's chances of winning the election. Compared to the average American voter, GameFAQs users are mostly liberal for the most part.

Still waiting on Wyoming to vote in this poll, but Mitt Romney is leading Kentucky and Alabama as well. I know it's still the early vote, but I think Obama will turn those states blue before the end of this poll.

Asia might be OK for Romney due to the Philippines. It says 80/20 for Obama now, but that should change. I recall a poll of various countries in 2008, and Israel and The Philippines were the only ones that McCain won.

Obama is 2% behind in Ohio compared to to the rest of the US. That means if the popular vote in the election is expected to be close to 50-50, then Ohio will lean Romney by a point or two. Oh noes.

4608 votes at the end of the first hour. If these early vote totals hold up, we could be looking at about 47000-48000 votes.

However, I think this poll might end up being similar to the 2011 Super Bowl poll where the vote totals started out strong, but collapsed late at night because the rest of the world doesn't care about the Super Bowl. North America brought in 87.25% of the total votes in the 2011 Super Bowl poll, when North America usually brings in about 76% of the votes for an average poll. This Obama/Romney poll could possibly bring in over 80% of the votes from North America.

Obama has gained about 1% in the past hour. Looks like Obama will dominate this night vote after all. Early on in this poll, I predicted Obama would get over 85% in Asia and Europe and that seems to be holding up here.

Oh god, Romney is starting to do much better in this poll as we approach the first poll closings at 7:00 PM EST. I blame older voters who just got out of work earlier to vote in the elections.

Trend charts for yesterday's poll:

https://spreadsheet.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdGd5cFdYaU5YTFFvSnFsNWhYcVJmMGc&gid=1

Romney started out okay with the early vote and Power Hour. Obama would go on to dominate the night vote with the help of Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Obama started to run out of steam near the end of the night vote, but managed to get his percentage up to 81.05% at 7:10 AM. From that point on, Obama would lose almost 3% to Romney. When you are over 80% in a poll, it's really difficult to swing 3% like Mitt Romney almost pulled off and that was after Obama gained about 3% with the night vote.

When the morning vote got into full swing after 7:00 AM, Romney started performing much better. He was also winning the morning vote in the US, probably as a result of older voters (more likely to be conservative) getting up to go vote in the election. After Romney's' initial surge with the morning vote, he slowed down with the midday hours in this poll (multiple 78%+ hours for Obama).

Once the ASV kicked in, Romney started to go on a tear again. Romney continued to grow stronger (multiple updates of Obama under 70%) as we got closer to the end of the poll, probably as a result of Europeans going to sleep. Once Obama was declared the winner, Obama started doing better put on a strong performance to end the poll.

Based on the hourly vote totals, I think the ASV was being diluted. While most Americans didn't have to go to work or college yesterday, the same cannot be said about high school students. I never got the day off when I used to be in high school.

Rough estimates for Obama's percentage in the Canadian provinces/territories:

British Columbia - 93.50%
Alberta - 88.00%
Saskatchewan - 90.00%
Manitoba - 84.00%
Ontario - 91.25%
Quebec - 95.50%
New Brunswick - 92.25%
Prince Edward Island - 84.50%
Nova Scotia - 92.25%
Newfoundland - 95.00%
Yukon - 100.00%
Northwest Territories - 100.00%

The percentages were estimated using this map:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/map.png?id=4895&region=8&map=1

The gradient maps proved to be useful in getting a rough estimate for each province/territory. This strategy only works on polls that have only 2 options. By using a program, I can drag my cursor over each province and figure out the RGB hex value for each province. British Columbia has a hex value of 10EFEF, which corresponds roughly to a percentage of 93.50% for the winner in blue (Obama in this case).

Alberta is the most conservative, but you see similar things across the prairies and northern British Columbia.

Here's the results from the 2011 election, anything dark blue was a heavy (+60%) conservative win.

South Dakota - 72.15% (R)
Ohio - 71.53% (D)
Delaware - 71.19% (D)
Wisconsin - 70.88% (D)
Florida - 70.22% (D)
Iowa - 70.07% (D)
Maryland - 69.71% (D)
Colorado - 69.22% (D)
North Carolina - 69.14% (R)
Virginia - 68.78% (D)
Arizona - 68.74% (R)
Indiana - 68.56% (R)
Missouri - 68.39% (R)
Oklahoma - 68.35% (R)
North Dakota - 67.62% (R)
Arkansas - 66.01% (R)

Alabama - 56.02% (R)
Louisiana - 55.63% (R)
Mississippi - 53.60% (R)
Utah - 44.44% (R)

(D) - A state that voted Democratic in the actual election.
(R) - A state that voted Republican in the actual election.

On that list, you can see that the top 18 states (plus DC) all voted Democratic in the actual election. You have to get all the way down to Kansas to see a Republican voting state for the first time. Kansas and South Dakota were the only 2 Republican states with a higher percentage than the overall US average of 71.90%. There were 8 Democratic voting states with a percentage below the US average of 71.90% in the poll, and 6 of those states were swing states.

The bottom 21 states in this poll all voted Republican in the actual election.

Breaking 50000 votes on any poll is a good thing, because we are absolutely struggling to break that now. Last time we broke 50000 votes was on 10/24/2012, 9/3/2012, and 6/10/2012. So only 4 times (including this poll) since the start of June.
