Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. Last
month was our worst month on record for vote totals since at least
2002. The average vote totals for last month were 39939. It could have
been over 40000 if it wasn't for all of those Wii U polls (all 6 of

This post from Bacon explains why our vote totals have been so low: SBAllen posted... Another thing that really fascinates me about the way the Internet works these days is that for the most part, people don't really go through a site's main page anymore like they used to. This is the Google Era. If you want something, you Google it, go to the result, and then go do something else. Our Google driven traffic's up nearly 1000% in the past 5 years, but as you can imagine a lot of people who hit us from Google get their answer and then move on. That's something I am already working on improving to keep more of those users, but it's not really detrimental to our overall traffic or anything as we have way more new users these days than we did back then as well. :) Based on that, fewer and fewer people are visiting the front page of the site. So we could say that Google is killing off our vote totals. does make sense. Having the poll appear on more pages, maybe even
making it appear on every page would drive up the votals significantly
although shoving it down people's throat like this might be a bad idea. --- ... |
We
should just replace the "Also on GameFAQs..." section with the Poll of
the Day. Right now, the "Also on GameFAQs..." section appears on most
pages across GameFAQs. I don't think the "Also on GameFAQs..." section

would probably take a few people/accounts due to the limit of topics an
account can make in a short time and I would wonder how many people
from other boards would actually click the links to vote in a main
