Would
be pretty sad if this is the first time we go a calendar year without a
contest. It would be an unofficial death signal for the board and
contests in general. I figure SB would keep this board around even if

The
board's been dying since the end of GOTD. Rivalry Rumble being a
garbage contest only sped up the process because we haven't had a real

Yeah,
this has absolutely been the worst two year stretch in contest history,
but going a full year without one will probably leave a lot of people
defeated and apathetic. Without even the promise of future contests,

It's
only been 12 days since SBAllen confirmed plans for a contest this
year. I think it's too early to be worried about missing a contest this

Considering
how poor the last contest was (especially so since GotD was such a good
contest preceding it) and how this is the tenth year for
GameFAQs-contests without any official recognition of the anniversary so

I'm
usually pretty good about finishing what I start in relatively short
order when it comes to games. I'm much worse with books. If I ever put a
book down for more than a couple of days, who knows when I'll get back

Altair since the AC series has abandoned him and it has become
increasingly obvious that he and Ezio are different guys (and that Ezio
is the main guy). With another lead set to take the helm for ACIII, that

Speaking
of which, I'm wondering which characters are most likely to be the most
affected by the long wait between Character Battles, which at this
point will be the longest gap we've ever had between them, nearly three
years since CBVIII was at the beginning of 2010. I was thinking about
what games the Noble Nine has gotten since our last one. Link - Skyward Sword, as well as the 3DS port of OoT, if that's worth anything Cloud/Sephiroth - Dissidia 012 (which I would imagine wouldn't have much impact, since it's not very different from the first one) and Theatrhythm, for whatever that may be worth (Sephiroth's first ever appearance on a Nintendo system...!) Mario - Tons, but that's the norm for him, so yeah Samus - Other M, which could do more harm than good, who knows Solid Snake - Nothing, actually. Big Boss has become front and center for MGS since the last Character Battle, but the fact that there are still new MGS games on the horizon should help Snake out regardless Crono - ...Yeah, dude could be in serious trouble next time around Mega Man - ...Yeah, enough said Sonic - Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, which were both good games, but is it a matter of too little, too late for Sonic on this site? Who knows? He's also had those Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Game things. It's been kind of a weird couple years for our Noble Nine. I
could see Mega Man getting a boost (or at least, not drop as much as he
should) out of pity from Capcom dicking him over so much in the last
year. Hard to say how widespread that pity really is or if it's mostly a

And
as far as the guys who could be considered near elite, probably the guy
who's had the most to gain from the last couple years is Big Boss. I
wouldn't make him a Noble Nine beater quite yet since he only managed
37% on Mario in a night match back in 2010 (probably would've been 65/35
in a day match or a full 24 hour match with the trends), but he could
definitely make a big jump up among that group. Who's ready to see a
rematch of this classic match?! http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2073 But a lot of our near elite characters haven't had much going for them either, aside from guys like Luigi, Bowser, and Yoshi, who get stuff all the time. Kirby's had a few games since then, but I don't know how much they help him. The FF guys and gals haven't had much to go on aside from Lightning and whatever help they might get from Theatrhythm, if anything. Leon Kennedy's got RE6 coming out, so he should reap the benefits from that. Dante has DmC, and who knows what sort of impact that's going to have on him. Zelda could get help from Skyward Sword, but Ganondorf wasn't in it, so it could reduce the boost he might get from it. Kingdom Hearts has had a couple of well received games since the last time we saw Sora, so that could help him out. Ryu's had SSFIV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 since then, which could help. Zero did get a Mega Man Zero Collection released on the DS, but I dunno if it'll make any difference. Pokemon is Pokemon. Who knows what you're getting there. I'll be interested to see how guys like Shepard, Drake, Ezio, and Chris Redfield perform. wasn't a remake. It was a port in every sense of the word. I doubt

a port more than anything. It's a port of a port with achievements.

I'd
love to see how well the Resident Evil characters do, and maybe some
new entries like Epona and Barret, but reading that analysis makes me
feel like the field is definitely really stale, or worse, even more
lopsided in favor of Nintendo beyond some key people. It would be exciting see the Noble Nine and Clinkeroth (or just...Cleroth) completely shattered this time though. Something
to note about Cloud/Seph/Crono is that this generation has had a huge
shift towards Western RPGs. I wouldn't be surprised if Square-Enix no
longer being the King of RPGs caused them to have a harsher than
expected drop. Of course, if that were to happen it would be more
noticeable for Cloud and Seph, since a harsher-than-expected Crono drop
would be written off as just Chrono Trigger being Chrono Trigger. I'm personally expecting the tier-list to be Link ----- Mario/Cloud/Samus/Snake in some order ----- Sephiroth ------ Mega Man ------ Sonic/near-elites ------ Crono/Upper Midcarders The biggest question mark will be Mega Man, but I'm not expecting him to threaten Sephiroth or be really threatened by the near-elites, so he's getting that little spot all his own. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png |
