And
I'm quite aware that I'm not being completely logical here, but it
remains that there's a qualitatively big difference between 53/47 and
58/42. On a personal level, that rivals match was a gut punch in a way
that none of the other Link/Cloud matches were. That rivals match felt
like a declaration that Link/Legend of Zelda was going to win every
single contest in the future, in whatever format, for whatever criteria
(characters, games, etc.). Before, this feeling did not exist-
remember, even now, Zelda has only won 10 out of 14 contests- barely

Also,
even for the match itself, stuff like that matters to me. I'd far
rather watch Crono 57/43 Bowser while we ponder its implications for
Crono/Sonic than watch Deus Ex and [I forgot the other game] go 50/50

I'd
consider it, but probably wouldn't take it. Cloud has to fit into a
pretty narrow window there to beat Mario and lose to Samus- the

Games
would be way better because it's been a longer time since we've seen
the pre-2000 entries and there will be more entries coming from the the

Games
are simply way more interesting. Skyrim, Mass Effect 2, Portal would
shake things up a lot more than the Dragonborn, Shepard, or Glados
would. The only downside of a Games contest is that I would have to wait
another year before I can vote for Link again, but he might get the

I'd
probably rather see the top characters going at it more than the top
games, but I care much more about how mid and low-tier games do than how
mid and low-tier characters do. --- We are living our lives Abound with so much information |
I
actually prefer character contests generally. The fanboy in me can't
really get behind many games in any given bracket-- and what few I can
get behind are usually fodder. Game matches might be more interesting
as in they're harder to predict and have more interesting newcomers,
but character matches really appeal to the more passionate side of me--
and most people, I assume. I seem to remember a lot more whining for
character contests than game contests, generally. That being said any normal kind of contest would be welcome at this point. (bring back 4 ways) --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Well,
I think everyone kind of figured that Skyrim laying the smack down on
Skyward Sword in GOTY was partially because Skyward Sword wasn't going
to be as strong as Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask. It's probably
more on The Wind Waker's level at best, which is still pretty good and
leaves plenty of room for Skyrim to be stronger than Oblivion by a good
margin. Plus, you have to take these polls with a grain of salt anyway, obviously. Besides, I figured we'd be getting a traditional Character Battle this year if we got anything because it's been nearly three years since the last one. Brawl
is still pretty strong when it comes down to it. It's probably Melee's
equal, a top 10ish game. If it hadn't lost to MM everyone would
probably agree it's a top 10 game. For Skyrim to beat it would have

Currently,
Brawl has 66.75% on Skyward Sword right now. Also, Skyward Sword has
just 58.38% against Xenoblade. Going by the Brawl/TP match in GotD,
that puts TP at 64.81% on Skyward Sword. I don't think that puts Skyward Sword around the level of Wind Waker. Well,
I think Skyward Sword is being hurt a lot more by the other games in
the poll than Xenoblade is. If any game in this poll is "independent,"
it's Xenoblade. I think it shows that Brawl probably puts an SFF
beatdown on it 1-on-1 instead of being able to resist it like TP was.
But Melee laid an SFF smackdown on Wind Waker, too, so it's not unheard

I'm
probably more surprised at how close the 2 Mario Galaxies are in this
poll. I didn't think they would be nearly identical in strength.
Perhaps Mario Galaxy 2 should be given an its first opportunity in a
