GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1046
If
we ran 2 matches at the same time, the match on the bottom would
probably struggle to break 25000 votes in a 24-hour match. The match on
the top would have better vote totals, but it probably would have lower
vote totals just because there are 2 matches running at the same time. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

I
was just curious if you could actually mention the right things or if
you were just hating on business practices and finding an excuse to hate
on the game as a result-- which is really the vibe your review gives
off. For the record, I didn't think you mentioned the right
things except for exploits (which, being fair, was just as big a problem
in D1/D2), but at least you mentioned legit problems with the game. The biggest flaws in the design I think are boring drops (boring != bad, necessarily-- I just want my legendary items to do more than give me more damage and stats once in a while) and a lack of endgame content-- amusingly they patched both of these in to some extent but the paragon levels or whatever really do feel like a bandaid like you said and the cool uniques are too low in number. But I mean, with enough patches, it's salvageable-- if enough people still care at that point. The fact that they actually release patches with any regularity is pretty nice, in any case. I like the game but I'll admit it has a lot of flaws. It just annoys me when it feels like you're bashing the game because of some soapbox anti-corporate agenda, perhaps combined a bit with "it's too hard," instead of disliking the game because of actual gameplay flaws. --- No problem! I've only gotten two legendaries, both were trash, and 0 set items. --- Dr_Football Factor'd |
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Baneslayer-1236/hero/18438039 That's my DH. The only good item is a bow that Chris let me borrow, everything else is trash. Funnily enough, one of the bad legendaries I got was a crossbow. I used it to get the Fiery Brimstone achievement. --- •.,¸¸,.•´¯`•.,¸¸,.•´¯`•.,¸¸,.~*ST*~.,¸¸,.•´¯`•.,¸¸,.•´¯`•.,¸¸,. LeonhartFour posted... Running two matches at the same time would be bad for vote totals, I think, and they're already bad enough as it is. I agree. Its already around 1/2 of what it was use to be. --- Why would you ask me that? |
It's not boring loot so much as Blizzard stealth nerfing the drops every patch. With 1.0.3 for example, Blizzard promised better drop rates. Which we did get, but they never bothered mentioning nerfing the HELL out of item stats on those drop rates. So in effect, the drop rates actually got nerfed. Say what you will about not letting me mention RMAH, but in Blizzard's eyes they have to keep people going there. In reality, the game should have never had RMAH in it because all paths lead back there. --- I am the dragon of blood, a relentless prince of pain Renouncing God on his throne, my blood is forever stained. |

Nah. The loot is boring is the
main problem with the loot system (and luckily they fixed it a bit).
People whining about loot nerfs are the same people who will whine about
drop rates in pretty much any game because they want everything quick
and easy. Diablo 2 had terrible drop rates too-- you just got lucky off
your ass (and played in a state of the game where they'd already hugely
buffed drop rates) I mean, okay, yeah, the loot could stand to be a little more forgiving (making better/more interesting legendaries will mostly fix that problem, though-- the issue isn't so much drop odds as much as being so much at the mercy of the rng with every drop-- d2 had good uniques out of the box so no matter what mods they dropped with you'd get a decent item) but that is definitely not the main problem with it. I found passable equipment for the whole game through act 2 inferno without grinding or anything. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
HL2 was dominating for first couple minutes, --- ... |
Yeah,
I saw that early in the poll. FF Versus XIII had a terrible super
early vote in this poll. But I expect FF Versus XIII to get the night
vote here and probably take the lead over HL2. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

Suddenly I was reminded that it's been about nine years since 2003 and it's excellent fanfiction project. I remember the Fanfiction Project. Thank God nobody wrote a fanfic for the Rivalry Rumble. When do contests usually get announced, like what time of day? --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |
I
have noticed in the past, Fridays tend to be the most likely day of the
week to get a contest announcement. TRE would know the exact date that
our past contests have been announced, so we would know which day of
the week is most likely to have a contest announcement. As for what time of the day we get contest announcements, they are usually announced between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM EST. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
So you're okay with people that have 1000+ hours on one character and have never seen a legendary or set item? 5 stacks of Neph Valor should not realize such god-awful drop rates. Those people are ridiculous outliers (or much much more likely just inflating their numbers to try and make their whining seem credible) and not the norm. I've only got ~100 hours on the game and I've seen 6 or 7 legendaries, and most people I've played with fall around that ratio too. Yeah, the odds are low, but the replayability in Diablo has always come from the loot grind. The problem with d3 was not that the sets and legendaries were so rare-- d2's high rune drop rates are much worse-- it's that they were rare and worse than blues and not interesting. Still needs some work, but the last patch in August or whenever it was said they're trying. Give em 10 years of patches like d2 and there will be a very good game there, I'm sure, if they have the patience for it. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I've only got ~100 hours on the game and I've seen 6 or 7 legendaries,
and most people I've played with fall around that ratio too. I've got about 92 hours on my Wizard and I've seen 1 Legendary I got on Normal Act 3. So BOO TO YOU. That being said, the August patch did a decent job of adding some Legendaries that didn't suck. I suppose the only reason why you are assuming we get a contest today is because this is the last full week of this month before we go into October next Monday. I
have a bad feeling about the upcoming contest being too weird/gimmicky ,
it's going to be really not what we want. is it still possible to
have a 64 days contest? --- ... |
Yes,
it's still possible. GOTD started on October 20th, with the bonus
match happening on December 24th. We can get a 64 day contest (63 days,
plus a bonus match) under the following set-up: Contest is announced on October 1st (this Monday) Nominations last for 4 days and close on October 5th. Vote-In polls from October 6th to October 8th. Bracket is revealed on October 9th, with a 11 day entry period that ends on the night of October 19th. Contest starts on October 20th. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
We
definitely still have time for a 63/64 day contest. Assuming it ends on
December 23rd, the contest would have to start on October 21/22. If the
bracket came out on the 8th that would give us two weeks to predict,
which has happened for regular contests before. It only gives us a week
or so for nominations, assuming a nomination form goes up ASAP, which
while not within the patterns of the most recent contests is not unheard
of. If we don't hear anything by Monday evening though, things do look
pretty grim, unless the contest is something that doesn't need
nominations, or another "short" contest like the last one. --- My bracket wasn't good enough to beat SuperNiceDog's in the GameFAQS Rivalry Rumble. Congrats! This is Yesmar. |
I
guess if we don't hear anything by Wednesday, I'm guessing we will get a
short contest like Rivalry Rumble's 48 day contest or the contest will
have to be delayed until the start of next year. LOLContests posted... We definitely still have time for a 63/64 day contest. The set-up I posted in my previous post does have a very short nomination period. Nominations usually last for about a week, so 4 days would be shorter than most of our past nomination periods. But since most of our nominations happen in the first 2 days, I don't think it's necessary to have long nomination periods of more than one week. 11 days for the contest entry period is shorter than usual. We usually have about 14 days for a contest entry period. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
