"Sony Smash Bros" is an intentional play Super Smash Bros's SSB abbreviation. "Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale" would only mean something to someone who already knows what it is while "Sony Smash Bros" lets the person guess what kind of game it is.

I always thought the Kirby games weren't held in very high regard on this site, because Kirby Super Star was pretty weak when we saw it in BGE 2009 while the Kirby series got tripled by Metroid in the Series Contest.

But today's poll seems to prove that the Kirby series as a whole has a very high playrate. It's not as high as Mario, Zelda, or Final Fantasy, but getting over 80% playrate is pretty good for any series.

I intend to purchase the two Kirby games for the Wii at some point since esurio's really into the older ones. See if she likes them or not. I'll also pick up whichever old ones have you walking down a 2D path sucking up enemies to obtain their abilities because yeah.

To be fair, the Kirby series has gotten more high-profile games over the last few years compared to back then. I blame Kirby's Epic Yarn losing to Metroid: Other M in that Wii GOTY poll on SFF from other similar-appeal options like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Proud member of the 3.2%

Just barely with the minimum 15, and I counted Super Star twice due to playing it on DS and SNES (and Kirby's Dream Land which is also in these two games since I played it on GB), but that's pretty good considering I haven't played any of his Wii games!

Looks like today's poll is another case of North America vs. The World. While the Kirby series has over an 80% playrate in North America, the playrate is under 75% for all of the other continents.

Kirby's Adventure
Kirby 3
Kirby 64
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror

KA and K64 were easily my favorite of those four I've played, which were fun but not necessarily great. Is Kirby Super Star Ultra still worth checking out?

Kirby Super Star is probably the defining Kirby game in the series, and Ultra adds a few new modes for it, so I'd definitely recommend it.

Kirby games are enjoyable, but people aren't going to hold them in the same regard as they do other Nintendo games due to various factors.

He was nowhere close to Ryu or Zero, but he still beat the other Brawl option.

Now Pit...he and Rayman are two characters that got massive assists in Uprising and Origins, but I can't see either doing very much other than an expected improvement.

Yeah, they both would be better, but I can't see it doing much for them in the grand scheme of things, especially Rayman, who is such bad fodder to begin with that he would need a massive boost to even get somewhat respectable.

A guy who got 9% on a fourpack with Snake, Nightmare and Vyse with absolutely nothing going for him, vs. a Rayman that has a pretty big title. Now, let me tell you about Nathan Drake, a guy who lost to CATS, but then got Uncharted 2 and put an OK number on The Boss. Certainly a horrid perfomance by a 2-seeded character expected to destroy the match, but that's not losing to CATS of all characters.

Back to Rayman. Now that he has a pretty big title behind him...Rayman may as well be the next Nathan Drake; more respectable than being some of the worst fodder in the contest, maybe even strong enough to win a match or two, but probably not taking down midcarders.

Rayman Origins isn't nearly as big as Uncharted 2, and doesn't do as much for the series as Uncharted 2 did. Before Uncharted 2, that was simply a one-game series. Before Rayman Origins, Rayman very much had a franchise - he simply didn't have a mainline game for a while.

Rayman might be able to sneak a win against a low-profile opponent, but it's unlikely. Rayman Origins is going to probably every major system and it's got all sorts of acclaim...but do people at GameFAQs really care? Rayman's series has largely gone ignored or beaten up on in the past and Leonhart already pointed out RO didn't fare well in last year's GotY-poll. 2D-platformers have also struggled in recent years; here's the list that made the GotD-contest:

Mega Man 9 (no worthwhile character-boosts)
Metroid Fusion (no worthwhile character-boosts)
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Soma got 18% on Solid Snake despite it and CV:AoS)
Viewtiful Joe (lost to Tails and Prince of Persia)
Braid (Tim was tripled by Chris Redfield)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (no worthwhile character-boosts)

Between that and MM9 being the only game to escape the first round that contest, it's looking grim for Rayman. The Rivalry Rumble didn't do anything to support 2D-platforming characters doing well, either; Meat Boy/Dr. Fetus and The Kid/The Guy failed to impress.

I really enjoyed RO's demo, but I don't see it doing big things for its cast here.

Reminds me of how the SoMI remake boosted Guybrush from getting quadrupled by Bowser to getting tripled by Vincent.

And then of course he had a fantastic showing last contest by evading a doubling from Bartz. At this rate, Guybrush could score over 40% on CATS next contest!

Finally, a Sonic game that manages to get into one of these polls. In the past, Bacon tends to screw the Sonic games over by not including them in any polls containing a bunch of games. I guess it shows how weak this month is besides Diablo III.
