GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1044
Super Bowl is going to be tomorrow, not today. But for tomorrow, there will be a Madden NFL poll. This happened back in 2010: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4038 Because that poll was also on a Sunday, tomorrow's poll trends can be directly compared to the 2010 Madden NFL poll. I predicted that the "None" option would probably go up during the Super Bowl. The only problem is that the game would start around 6:30 PM EST, which is around when Europe starts going to sleep. Europe is responsible for slowing down how fast the "None" option loses percentage and they'll start going to sleep after 6:00 PM. It would be up to the US and Canada to try and make the "None" option actually go up in percentage during the Super Bowl, since Europe will start going to sleep during the Super Bowl. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

How accessible is watching the Super Bowl outside the US and Canada? --- SuperNiceDog was not so nice to my bracket. Congrats to SuperNiceDog for winning the Rivalry Rumble Guru Contest! |
I
don't know how accessible Sirius XM Radio is outside of North America,
but I know they're doing a lot to promote the Superbowl in a lot of
different languages. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate SuperNiceDog's Guru-choice, then Epona. |
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4619®ion=CA http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4619®ion=MX I think it's a bad thing when the Super Bowl is doing better in Mexico than in Canada. Mexico shouldn't have a reason to care about the Super Bowl because they like soccer instead. At least Canada has Canadian Football, which is very similar to American Football. Still, the Super Bowl is more popular in Canada compared to the other continents besides North America. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
It probably has to do with Mexico only getting about 500 votes. Maybe those guys are more pro-American. --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/Rivalry%20BOP.xls Congrats to SuperNiceDog for winning the guru contest. |
First 7 votes were all for the last poll option in today's poll. Madden got anti-voted with the super early vote here. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

There's
nothing surprising in today's poll. Today's poll was obviously going
to have some extreme trends here, which is why I tracked poll updates
for this poll when we had it back in 2010. I never did post the poll
updates, but I'll do it once today's poll is over with so I can compare
the trends from both polls to see what impact the Super Bowl has on
today's trends. As for today's poll, Madden has a better playrate this time around. Back in 2010, the "None" option maxed out at 70.25% (at 9:18 AM), while the "None" option never made it past 69% today. The "None" option maxed out at 68.89% (at 9:10 AM). --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

I know the Super Bowl hasn't started yet, but the last poll option just jumped to 54.99% in the US earlier. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Poll updates for today's poll: https://spreadsheet.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdF9QVm1uU05ZM29FbmpaakFfLW9uUnc&gid=1 As I expected, the "None" option is going up in percentage since the Super Bowl started. "None" started going up again after 6:23 PM and the game started at 6:30 PM. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Trend charts for both Madden NFL polls can be found here: https://spreadsheet.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdF9QVm1uU05ZM29FbmpaakFfLW9uUnc&gid=2 In both polls, the "None" option gets anti-voted at the start of the poll and collapses somewhat after the board vote wears off. The "None" option does extremely well overnight and into part of the morning vote. The day vote kicks in after 9:00 AM and the "None" option collapses. In yesterday's poll, the "None" option holds up slightly better overnight as it barely manages to break 79% in one hour. In the 2010 poll, the "None" option nearly reaches 81% in a single hour. When the day vote kicks in, the hourly trends were very consistent (61-64% hours) until the Super Bowl begins. The trends started to change after the 6:18 PM update where the "None" option bottomed out at 65.85%. The 6:23 PM update was a 67.46% update and it didn't take long for "None" to start pulling in a fury of 70%+ updates, including a crazy 78.57% update. The game started at 6:30 PM, and the commercials seemed to have no effect on the trends at all. The half game show started around 7:51 PM and although the 7:54 PM update was a 67.62% update, the next update would be a 53.33% update. During the half game show, there were 3 updates under 60% and "None" lost 0.10% during the half game show alone. The half game show ended around 8:13 PM, although there were commercials until about 8:15 PM. For about 30 minutes after the half game show ended, the "None" option was struggling to go back up in percentage again. It wasn't until 8:44 PM that "None" got an update above 70% again. The "None" option only gained 0.07% during the second half of the game after the half game show ended. The game finally ended around 9:30 PM, although the "None" option continued to go up until 9:55 PM, where it maxed out at 66.08%. After that point, the "None" option started going back down again. During the 10:00-11:00 PM hour alone, "None" lost 0.22%. Despite the Super Bowl affecting the trends of yesterday's poll, the SNV of both Madden polls were very similar to each other. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |

This
is an impressive performance by Dragon Ball. Goku and Vegeta would
definitely be noble nine material in an all fictional contest. --- Starcraft is my life, so without it I wouldn't exist. - Artosis Congratulations to SuperNiceDog for winning the 2011 Guru contest. |

I
guess I'm not really all that surprised, I kind of expected Goku or
Vegeta to have decent strength(at least higher than what creativename
was projecting them to be at), don't know how much stock to take from
this poll though. --- - |
A result this good probably can't be just because of those two, either. Who's the next most popular Dragon Ball character? Gohan? Piccolo? --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO SUPERNICEDOG NO PEACE] |
I'd expect the DBZ hierarchy to go: Goku Vegeta (Significant Gap) Piccolo (Massive Gap) Others Maybe Krillin, Gohan, or Yamcha would also be decent, but I wouldn't want to see any of them in unless we had actual results proving Goku/Vegeta NN-tier and a read on Piccolo. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png http://i.imgur.com/597oi.png |
Voted
for FF here. Nintendo already has Smash, and while Nintendo characters
in a Capcom fighter would play much differently, I'd still rather see
Zack and co. Since so many Square characters are sword wielders, it
would also give non-swordies like Our The Ayla a healthy shot to get
in!!! --- Yoblazer: http://i44.tinypic.com/5nw45i.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

I'm neutral about an all-fictional character contest. But man, would it be hard to justify a Goku loss in those fanfics where the characters fight each other instead of disputing for popularity. Inb4leongoesneverliveitdownonme |

In
Nintendo's/FF's defense, they've already got their own popular fighting
series. DC Comics also had a cross-over with Mortal Kombat. Not that
Dragon Ball doesn't deserve some credit here, but Nintendo VS Capcom =/=
Nintendo. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate SuperNiceDog's Guru-choice, then Epona. |

Dragon Ball did better than I would have expected in this poll and I have a good explanation for why it did so well here. You have to figure that a site that loves JRPGs would probably also love anime as well, since anime is Japanese type stuff. Dragon Ball did well here because it's an actual anime. Also, I think the nostalgia factor probably helps out Dragon Ball as well, as it was popular during the same time period that Pokemon was. So Dragon Ball probably got stronger on this site over the past few years like what we saw with Pokemon. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
