GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1044
charmander6000 | Posted 3/30/2012 1:10:08 PM | message detail | quote Only way for it to work is if you redesign the front page and are then able to post 2 polls side by side. I think that's been mentioned in some discussions about this way back in 2004 or 2005. It would also help if there is a message on the front page saying that you can vote in both polls. In the past, the bottom poll always had reduced vote totals, because some people don't realize they can vote in both polls. Also, it's easier to miss the bottom poll, so that also leads to reduced vote totals on the bottom poll. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Yeah I was thinking something that made it clear. Perhaps the matches taking place right next to each other, with one Vote button when you've made your selection for both matches. Though I guess forcing people to vote on both matches might alter results again. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/pjbasis.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |
It wouldn't really alter results at all, but it should cause lower vote totals in both matches. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Yeah, that's what I meant, vote totals. GameFAQs should just really get some new threads for that homepage. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/pjbasis.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |
The
homepage would have to be redesigned to support 2 polls side by side.
The 2 contests during 2005 sometimes had 2 polls side by side, like what
you see here: http://web.archive.org/web/20050725075601/http://www.gamefaqs.com/ The sponsored poll had 43669 votes, while the contest match had 106979 votes. So it appears that putting the polls side by side did not stop the sponsored poll from having reduced vote totals. Also, the sponsored poll was on the left of the contest match, which should make it more likely that someone will vote in the sponsored poll, but not in the contest match. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
The upcoming poll for tomorrow will be "How do you feel about April Fools' Day?". I hope there is an invisible poll option this year. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Kind of lame. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/pjbasis.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |

Today's poll is quite evenly split on the idea of Kick-starter..... --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate SuperNiceDog's Guru-choice, then Epona. |
The even split reflects the fact that a lot people haven't heard of Kickstarter or don't know much about it. The vote totals today are very terrible. This is clear evidence that a lot of people haven't heard of Kickstarter, so they are not voting on this poll. For the people who voted on this poll despite not knowing anything about Kickstarter, they are probably voting for the most neutral option (the middle option). I never heard of Kickstarter prior to this poll, so I voted for the middle option. Before today's poll, we had 63 consecutive days where every single poll had at least 40000 votes or more. The last time we had less than 40000 votes on a poll was on 1/30/2012, and even that was about 38000 votes. Today's poll will just barely break 30000 votes. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
It
feels like it's been so long since the last contest. I had to look it
up and was surprised to find out it only ended just over 3 months ago.
That contest was so forgettable.... --- Congratulations to SuperNiceDog, Guru Winner, who was smart enough to pick your 7 time champion, Link. |
I
hope SB really takes some pride in how the GameFAQs-contests are nearly
ten years old now. Another dull contest or lack of attention to them

last poll didn't break 30k votes wow I voted "Probably, as long as they have great games for it" I think Wii U need better third party support than Wii to succeed, Nintendo can't rely just on its 1st party heavy hitters. --- ... |
Boudii | Posted 4/4/2012 12:09:31 AM | message detail | quote last poll didn't break 30k votes wow Yeah, that's a huge sign that a lot of people didn't know what Kickstarter was, so they avoided voting on the poll. As for today's poll, the site seems to be nearly split on how they think the Wii U will perform. The "Probably" option is beating out the "Probably not" option, though. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
What's the record for the amount of time a stats topic has taken to fill? We must be close. --- Congratulations to SuperNiceDog, Guru Winner, who was smart enough to pick your 7 time champion, Link. |

Geolocation does have some interesting results though. It's still early, but here are some of the more extreme shifts from Europe to America: America / Europe Broccoli: 12.86 / 6.45 Corn: 13.35 / 7.76 Cucumber: 5.11 / 9.07 Tomatoes: 6.95 / 13.71 --- SuperNiceDog owned me in the Guru. Very
extreme Geolocation differences in this poll, especially when it comes
to Europe. Too bad I never set myself up to track poll updates as I
wasn't expecting anything interesting in this poll. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
