tends to reject a lot of poll ideas. I've had problems getting poll
ideas accepted in the first place. I think I've probably made about 10
suggestions total and only had 2 of them get accepted. These are the

Speaking
of SB, he seemed to take some of our suggestions regarding tightening
up the GotY schedule, so I'll give him my suggestion for next year. - do we REALLY need a separate poll for Best Mobile Game? considering it only got 16k votes, I'd say "no." let's continue to streamline by merging that with Handhelds - very nice work with the Handhelds merge BTW, would have been awful to sit through DS/3DS/PSP/Vita polls this year/next year - merging down to Best System Exclusive was a great idea, hope that continues going forward - some people probably want to kill Best Original, but I still like it... worth losing one day to promote originality amidst a sea of sequels IMO! - two days for Multi-Platform was great, but he needs to be willing to swap games around instead of just splitting alphabetically. Battlefield 3 losing votes to Modern Warfare was bad enough, but then he piled on Bulletstorm, Crysis, Deus Ex, AND Dead Space on top of that. ...and then Day 2 didn't have a single FPS. whereas D1 had zero fighters and then D2 was Mortal Kombat and MvC crippling each other with King of Fighter piling on. just swap MK with MW3 and we get much more accurate percentages from all 4 games! - I'm fine with not having a GotY "Final" day with just 3 options, and am against the Multi-Platform Final day. instead of that I'd like to see... * an 8 game mini-bracket featuring the winners of Portable/Original/DLC + the top two Exclusives and the top three Multiplatform. with 1v1 matches it would only take 7 days to run, meaning GotY polls overall would run for 15 days. Considering they ran for 14 days in 2009 and 16 days in 2010, that seems pretty reasonable! + (he'd just need to set the 2 Exclusives and 2 Multi-Platform that already played each other on opposite sides of the bracket to avoid one "repeat" day. though sometimes the 10way result between the two might have been close and making it a 1v1 instead could go either way, in which case even a repeat would be fine) Now THAT would be something new to look forward to every year! --- thengamer.com/guru thengamer.com/xstats board8.wikia.com Best Show ever? goty
polls should just be done by genre. going by platform is completely
arbitrary when there's no similarity in how the various games play (not
even platform! 'downloadable' and 'original' games get their own days
for god knows what reason) |
Based on my suggestion, our 2011 mini-bracket would have been 1. Skyrim 8. Bastion 4. Uncharted 3 5. Pokemon Black/White 3. Batman: Arkham City 6. Portal 2 2. Skyward Sword 7. L.A. Noire (only things we'd have seen before would be SS/Uncharted and Skyrim/Portal; with this setup they couldn't happen again until the Finals) That looks pretty fun from where I'm sitting! Eh,
I can't see Skyrim being much better than Oblivion by the time we get
another game contest. It's very much the product of hype and won't be

It's
hard to say Skyrim's not going to last, considering it's probably the
game with the most replay value this year. Besides that, it was the
most hyped game this holiday season pre-release and doubled the
competition post-release despite this being a great year for games.
It's been well-received practically everywhere with some rumblings about
it being among the best games ever, and it's an RPG on GameFAQs to
boot. Don't let it being a WRPG fool you -- ME2 won last year's GotY
easily and we saw FO3 end up doing surprisingly well on SSBB. It even
broke mainline-LoZ's undefeated streak during a fantastic year for the

be honest, one could very well say that GameFAQs has taken a while to
light up to just about every console Zelda game except for Twilight

Skyrim
being the top game of the generation is difficult to find fault with at
the moment because it's either Skyrim or Brawl, and every point except
'Skyrim doesn't have Link' and 'lol Western games' heavily favors

If
Skyward Sword is just damn crap, then the Wii is in full 'so bad that
no game of quality can even be worth a vague damn' mode, which is a
huge, huge point in Skyrim's favor. Nintendo being irrelevant is not a

There's
a floor to how weak decently/well received main entries to non-fodder
franchises like Portal, Uncharted, Batman/Arkham and Zelda can be. That floor is sufficiently high that Skyrim is, at worst, very strong. --- Who knew the Rivalry Rumble would be so predictable? SuperNiceDog, that's who. |

so yeah, it's hilarious people actually made excuses for SS during that
BEAT-EM-DOWN, but what else can you expect on Nintendo 8? SS might be a fine game for all I know, but Skyrim is assuredly better, more popular and stronger in a contest. up vgchartz's sales for the PC, 360, and PS3 versions of Skyrim means
it's already pretty close to FFVII's sales. (9.57 million vs. 9.72
million) Once it clears that, I think it'll be the best selling RPG that

Hi Ulti. You realise I said that because LMS was talking about what reviewers think, right? And it's not a matter of haters hatin'. Skyrim is a great game. But it's frankly lacking compared to what it could be. There are a lot of areas it just doesn't do particularly well. It does an amazing job at creating an immersive world, but does a poor job of a lot of other things, including creating a good main experience. And the reason this stops it from being the best game ever is simple. There are huge open world RPGs that have more content than Skyrim but also manage to have important things like robust main quests, compelling narratives, a memorable cast of characters... Even if SS and Batman WERE really weak (and they're not) 43% is flat-out incredible. It's better than TP and RE4 did, and I don't think anybody will argue that Skyrim's competition was weaker than that of either of those. Hell, take out Pokémon and SS breaks 30%, a lot better than some winners. Thing is, we've seen games that are known to be very strong do worse than Skyrim with garbage competition. Nobody here would take Gears of War over even SFF'd SS. Skyrim's floor is TP, let's put it that way. probably has at least 25 million sales itself, and almost 50 million if
you count its expansions. Don't forget that many Chinese farmers get
banned over and over again and need to buy new copies to play again, so
