This poll is kinda sad.

Because

Sword & Sworcery is getting killed.

:(

Also, terrible votals and should have been combined with best downloadable game I suppose.

From: FateStayAlbion | #403
Outside of Bastion, are there any other Downloadable titles that might make a run at winning?

Outland. Not much else though, which is another reason the two polls should have been combined.

Ayway, LMS, how about you actually play games rather than just spouting bastardisations of the opinions of one website. Especially since GT's SS review is seen as pretty terrible by most

Besides, neither of those points are true. SS is if anything closest to MM, and Skyrim is no more derivative than most sequels are.

Don't understand why or HOW Allen manages to turd up the GOTY polls today. It was going so well, all we needed was best downloadable and then 2 GOTY polls saturday and sunday. Then again this is the same dude who thought Rivalry Contest would be a good idea...

I think Zelda will get a close second but the fanboys will whine about it for a long time. I go to ZeldaInformer, and in the comments section in an article commenting on how Skyrim won GOTY on some site, all the top-rated comments were by people who hated on Skyrim and clearly never played nor intended to play it. Plus, from what I know, ZeldaInformer is the least fanboyish of the big Zelda sites.

I loved playing Skyward Sword but the only way I can see it winning is if the entire Nintendo fanbase on this site rallied against Skyrim.

And Skyrim will never win GotD after what will happen, because when that time comes everyone will complain about how BETHESDA ALWAYS WINS!!!

IF you've actually been around the zelda boards on this site for the last 2 months you'd notice not everyone is bumming Skyward Sword and rightly so, it's not that good.

I can see it winning is if the entire Nintendo fanbase on this site rallied against Skyrim.

Yeah thats never going to happen, the Nintendo fanbase is split these days. You have a new generation of "nintendo fans" who bumlove the Wii and think Brawl is the best game ever. And then you have the Nintendo fanbase who own other consoles are less biased and generally have better taste in games. These are the fans who are most likely voting for Skyrim in the first place and are more likely to choose Skyrim over Zelda.

If you mean the "fanboys" and wii nuthuggers then they don't have much say. Just take the "system of the year" polls from the last 3 years and look at the number of votes for "wii"

Insignificant.

And Skyrim will never win GotD after what will happen, because when that time comes everyone will complain about how BETHESDA ALWAYS WINS!!!

I doubt it. Also [Insert name here] ALWAYS WINS is a crappy b8 meme. Stop using it.

It is worse than Morrowind in every way besides prettiness and combat. That is not debatable. I guess some people prefer those things over everything else though so the general statement is an opinion.

So it's not debatable Skyrim has better quests, better characters and story but you admit Skyrim has better gameplay so that part is an opinion. God you're thick.

Okay, this poll is definitely finishing under 20000 votes. In the last hour, there were only 757 votes. Even with the next 2 hours having more votes than the previous hour, this poll won't even be at 10000 votes by the half-way point. We'll probably end up around 9700 votes at the half-way point and the poll should finish around 18000 votes.

For the record, Morrowind's cool. Its combat sucks out loud though, and the day Bethesda makes a TES-game with that fixed will probably be the day I fall in love with a WRPG...assuming the ME-series doesn't win me over first (thanks, Steam).

I think the moment that "ruined" Oblivion for me was when I ran out of inventory space in the sewers. I was all... rly, I gotta start micromanaging my inventory now? I've barely started the game!

Considering how quickly I gave up on both that and F3, it is a bit surprising how KotOR is one of my favorite games ever, but I think it probably has a more linear, casual-friendly approach.

EDIT: And tbqh, the idea of deciding what to pick up and leave behind irks me. I want all the loot. Leaving stuff behind makes me feel like I've left stuff unfinished. I grab everything in KotOR and that's the way I likes it.

"From here, where you go is up to you."

Sure, that would be great, if it were actually possible to go somewhere interesting. Leaving the vault in Fallout 3 is the exact same type of moment done right, imo. Search for your father was a lot more appealing than whatever a dead emperor wanted you to do, which was never that clear to me. I had no motivation to actually explore Oblivion's world, unlike Fallout. I need a good main quest to keep on going, so I'm not touching Skyrim if it didn't fix that.

And don't say TES should be excused from having bad main quests because they are supposed to be sandbox games. People bash Zelda precisely for the opposite, for not being "open" enough when it's always been about the dungeons and puzzle-solving. And awesome dungeons Skyward Sword does not lack.

Just for the record, Fallout 3>any Elder Scrolls game. In story as well as gameplay, as badly as that story ends.

But yeah, if you don't like sandbox games (and/or oldschool dungeon crawlers) you won't like Skyrim.

And frankly, I don't see why simply having a sandbox means you can't do core experiences well. Plenty of games do both, why can't TES?

1. I never said everyone was praising Skyward Sword. In fact, my main point was that the fanboys would complain about Skyrim winning, not that everyone would complain.
2. Obviously it wasn't going to happen, not sure why you couldn't see that I thought so. I can't believe you went so out of your way to say something because I didn't say "which won't happen" after the second point.
3. I meant all the Nintendo fanboys.
4. I'm not even sure why you specifically quoted my post, since some of your points either had nothing to do with the subject I was talking about or were totally obvious. You also seem to be angry over my post, since that's the only explanation I can find for your lengthy explanation of your second point.

I also was drawn out of Oblivion before I even left the sewers...and while we're on SW:KotOR, I was done with that game shortly after getting HK-47. I just haven't felt at home with a WRPG yet; Morrowind's been the closest thing so far. I'll try ME1/2 when I get a new computer and don't have to worry about bringing my save files over, so maybe that will change things...and trying more of FO3 might help too.

Trend charts for yesterday's poll:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdEJHeHp4N2JhQ29KSTJKQ2JENGNnRlE&gid=1

Arkham City is kind of stable across every time period, but only the night vote seems to stand out there. Battlefield 3 shares the bad vote of Call of Duty, although does is better than Call of Duty at night. Battlefield 3 gets the ASV, but it's not as strong as the Call of Duty ASV.

Dark Souls has a bad board vote and ASV, but a good night vote. Portal 2 is all board vote and Power Hour, then dies off at night and briefly stabilized in the early morning before dying off again after 12:00 PM with the later part of the DSV (plus the ASV and SNV).

Skyrim has a bad board vote, like you would expect from the WRPGs. The night vote was below average and wasn't as good as Fallout 3 with the night vote. The later part of the morning vote was better for Skyrim. The ASV is what Skyrim did best in, but it did drop off a little bit at the end with the SNV.

Morrowind is far better in all those ways so no it isn't debatable. Morrowind actually has an interesting story. Skyrim's is boring as hell and ridiculously short. I'm pretty sure Skyrim's main quest is like 10 quests long.

A lot of people felt overwhelmed by Oblivion, but Skyrim helps you out a lot more from the get go. After leaving the first town, you're given like 3-4 quests right from the get go, and you can choose where you want to go. You're kind of directed right to one of the main cities and can venture from there. Oblivion tossed you into the wild with only one quest that was pretty far away, and let you fend for yourself.

A lot of people who couldn't get into Oblivion or Fallout found Skyrim to be much easier for them and they ended up loving it. Don't let the other games deter you from playing it!

I was looking forward to voting for Outland, but naturally it gets snubbed. I bet Catherine gets snubbed in the new IP poll as well! Ugh.

Anyway, after that record-breaking poll, no one has the right to say that contest matches are between entrants no one cares about. A little over 12 months ago Persona 4 and Dead Rising each, individually, pulled more votes in 12 hours than that entire poll did in 24.
