I wonder if Cloud and Seph can come back. It'd be pretty cool to see a comeback where the ability to pull it off is actually in doubt this contest!

I think it's time to re-open the possibility that Mega Man gets revenge on Sephiroth for 2002 and 2003 if they were to meet again.

I just noticed that it says "Cloud" instead of "Cloud Strife" in this match. I guess Bacon messed that up.

As long as you consider Red/Blue to be upper Noble Nine level, this isn't that bad for Cloud/Sephiroth. Cloud/Sephiroth will still finish way ahead of the rest of the non-top 4. Red/Blue just happened to be stronger than just about anyone could imagine.

Yeah, I think the Trainers have this. I woulda expected Cloud to be at like at least 46% by the point if he wanted to win.

With how frontloaded the Trainers are? Yeah, they'll probably bleed percentage for just about the rest of the match, just like against Mario.

If Mega Man were increasing over even just maintaining the same level of popularity, maybe. But consider that 02/03 were some of Mega Man's most popular years as the series was in the middle of the very well received MMBN series and the Zero series had just begun. But Mega Man's gone down in popularity since then at a much faster rate than Sephiroth with nothing to rejuvenate him beyond Mega Man 9 and 10. Every single Mega Man series is on hiatus and/or dead right now and has been for a while.

Based on yesterday's match, this is headed for around 59k votes. A lead of 1000, which Pokemon is approaching, is more than enough. They won't choke this. FFVII won't be coming back with the day vote. They need to cut all of this AND build something substantive at night. They don't have the time or the votals, and their fanbase is heartbreakingly demoralized.

Wow Cloud only at 55% in Europe what is wrong with Europe why isn't it favoring Cloud in it's usual amounts?

Edit: Actually looking at last years matches Europe normally only favors Cloud by like 3-5% more than the overall result. Guess this is actually pretty big.

Today should have a fairly normal ASV. I would not expect the ASV to become diluted until at least Wednesday or later. Last year, the ASV during this week was normal on December 20th. December 21st (the first 24-hour match) is when it started to get diluted. There was pretty much no ASV at all on December 23rd (the final match).

When that morning vote kicks in, The Trainers will be bleeding like crazy in North America, fueling the comeback attempt even after Europe and Asia lose their dominance in this match when the morning vote arrives.

I'm going 1% with not all my points (keeping enough to surefire beat Bacon). My final score will be 168600 if I get within 1%.

Only problem is I don't know what to do with this match at all.

I look at how Link SFF'd the hell out of Mario last year and how Link seems even stronger this year with Ganondorf at his side. That makes me want to pick as high as 65% this year.

Then I see this tie breaker with the Trainers railroading and realize Mario would beat Cloud and Sephiroth pretty soundly this year as well. Maybe even 58% like Link.

Even if the numbers say they were to get the same % on Cloud and Sephiroth as Link, one has to remember Link is the top of the SFF food chain. Which lands me picking Link with around 55%.

Really considering putting 60% and calling it a day.

I'd wait at least until the day vote kicks in to start making assumptions on Mario > Cloudiroth. Pokemon was always incredibly frontloaded, and Mario > Trainers might have been a strong case of SFF in Mario's favour.

It was a weekend match but Red/Blue collapsed badly against Mario/Bowser during the day. Even Cloud/Sephiroth might be able to do something if Red/Blue pull something like that again. Also Cloud/Sephiroth still have a few more night hours to work with. I think Cloud/Sephiroth might get pretty close to actually pulling this off.

They've barely cut 50 votes off the peak lead in over 90 minutes. I really doubt rallies will be necessary at this point. If they're cutting so weakly now, it's not like they'll stall out the ASV.
