True dat.

Depressing.

We need contests that aren't related to video game characters or games. Seriously.

Getting rid of Link doesn't fix anything. Mario will just be next guy up. I mean look how much Nintendo just dominated this, is anyone seriously going to take Cloud > Mario?

I say keep the contests if only for the sole reason of prizes, I'd prefer to get rid of battle though, after this hivemind fiasco.

I never thought Kerrigan and Raynor could be that "strong", consider that that rivalry is in a series best known for its multiplayer. Maybe StarCraft II did boost Kerrigan after all.

No, Vyse is clearly fodder now, and verging on being bad fodder at that. Forget beating Laharl in a rematch, he would have a good chance of losing to Neku.

For what it's worth, the GOTD stats have Skies > TWEWY > Disgaea, and a rather big gap between each.

You think Skies might be overrated in the GOTD stats due to a possible Portal overperformance against RE4? 'Cuz if it isn't, it implies that the likes of TWEWY, Dragon Quest VIII, Valkyria Chronicles, Persona 3, Deus Ex, and Metroid Fusion all lose to Baldur's Gate II.

Also yay Samus's rivalry finishes ahead of X's in the stats. So much for rivalry factor I guess.

No disagreements here!

We've often talked about how much all things FF7'y would boost if it got a remake, right? This year, LoZ:OoT's 3D-remake launched (more or less) a handheld outselling the DS, then LoZ:SS released mid-contest. All of this is during LoZ's heavily advertised twenty-fifth anniversary, too. Today's results may be the outcome of that flood of focus.

This is still mighty damn ugly, Cloud and Sephiroth.

Samus has a damn good rivalry
Ridley KILLED HER PARENTS

Gee, I've been trying to get that across that Samus has a "damn good rivalry" (well I haven't really been trying hard, but still!). A few weeks ago I was thinking about the main goals that Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, and Ridley (and Ganondorf, but I really don't want to discuss him) have, and...

Bowser - Kidnap Peach to eventually destroy the Mushroom Kingdom.
Dr. Robotnik - Cover the world with machinery and eliminate all wilderness.
Ridley - "Finish what he started" - aka kill Samus.

In Bowser's and Robotnik's cases, the villain is heading for world conquest, and the hero simply stands in their way. Ridley, like Bowser and Robotnik, is also the leader of an "army", but he's seen with his "troops" far less frequently than Bowser and Robotnik are, and usually whenever he appears, he's trying to impede on Samus's progress at the very least, if not outright kill her. I guess their encounter at Ceres Space Station at the beginning of Super Metroid could throw a monkey wrench into this train of thought...or maybe it doesn't! Ridley has his hands full with stealing a baby metroid, and plus why else would he camouflage himself aside from pulling off a surprise attack?

The bottom line is that Ridley is probably more concerned with killing Samus than with world domination, and Samus obviously knows it.

Neither Ocarina of Time 3D or Skyward Sword fared very well at all in anticipation polls, however,

On the other hand though, maybe the voters are smarter than we think and have deduced that rivalry =/= in-person encounter - Ganondorf talks to Link four times in Ocarina of Time even though he only sees him twice, after all!

Yes, I recently watched an LP of Ocarina of Time and I completely forgive the game for all the crap I've given it in the past few months.
