Lopen | Posted 12/5/2011 6:12:00 PM | message detail I think I'm the best one to comment on "luck" in this topic considering I got a top 10 finish in 2007 and I'm historically one of the "worst" contest predictors That's because your brackets always contain tons of wacky upsets that probably won't happen. You should consider using an alt account to fill out a serious bracket (without the wacky upsets that probably won't happen), just to see how your alt account does in the contest. Brawl/Melee
was one of the few examples where luck was 100% of the result. Really
the only ones that can say that are the matches which are closer than

would've entered a Fun Entry in 2010 as well. Because I wasn't eligible
for a Prize Entry and there was no alternative. Money says no-one
would've said I didn't win if I finished on the top of the leaderboard. One of the worst arguments Ulti makes IMO. --- Easily. |

I
think everyone is misunderstanding luck here. I came pretty close to
winning the last battle challenge by picking SotC over MGS. Was that
skill? It would be incredibly presumptuous of me to say that I'm that
much smarter than everyone else here. It was a good amount of logic
coupled with a calculated risk that paid off. I think what Leon (and
others) mean by luck is that the calculated risks work out. It takes
those risks breaking your way (luck) to win contests. But you put
yourself in that position through logic. |
And
let's go ahead and throw out a hypothetical, what would X/Zero need to
put up tonight before you even consider the possibility of an upset next
round? Well, seeing as Sonic is probably better than the ninjas (at worst even with them due to the format) and assuming there's a bit of SFF going on here (then again, Mario probably SFF's Mega Man the same way he SFFs Sonic), I would need to see at least 60% to even consider it, and matching this performance to think it likely. |

Match L: (1) Mega Man X/Zero vs. (2) Sub-Zero/Scorpion Pervious Round Mega Man X/Zero – 77.20% Bartz Klauser/Gilgamesh – 22.80% Donkey Kong/King K. Rool – 35.52% Sub-Zero/Scorpion – 64.48% Analysis This match has been getting some hype and as impressive as Sub-Zero and Scorpion have looked due to the format both Mega Man X and Zero should be benefitting from the format as well. I say should because Mega Man X and Zero haven’t exactly had a chance to display the strength of the rivalry boost that they should receive as their opponents so far have been bad rivalry and weak pairing. Before the contest I expected Sub-Zero and Scorpion to be among the few to really benefit from a rivalry boost; however Mega Man X and Zero were also a part of that shortlist and while I may give Sub-Zero and Scorpion the nod in rivalry boost there are other things that matter in this match. Mega Man X and Zero have the strength advantage in this match with both characters being stronger than Sub-Zero and Scorpion. While people are desperate for an upset this match isn’t going to give us one. Sub-Zero and Scorpion may give us a respectable performance, but I don’t think they’ll pose a threat to Mega Man X and Zero.
