It would be hilarious if Dante got this close and didn't manage to grab the lead. Has there even been a lead change in this contest yet?

Outside of first 5 minute dickery, I'm 99% sure there hasn't, given there's only been one match before this to finish within 55-45%, and that was a board vote dominated by Frog/Magus and then coasting.

Part of Sora's stalling also came from Dante losing a bit of percentage in Europe earlier.

This contest should have been done through December only about 24 days with half the entrants. Much more interesting then.

Then make all the rounds up to the last 2 12 hour matches. Thre's no reason for the 2nd round to be 24 hours. This contest is easily one of the worst.

I want to say Sonic/Crono 2006 didn't have a stall, but too lazy to check. That might be the only time I can remember where one just flew by the other in the last few years.

Actually daytime comebacks are generally the exception to this, thinking about it. Master Chief generally blows by people too.

But yeah at night it always comes down to this.

The last close match we had with a proper lead chase (FFX vs. MM) saw the lead change absolutely fly by. And this stall was mostly Dante's fault - KH was consistently updating in the mid 60s while Dante kept flopping all over the place. Eventually KH's vote intake dropped off and let Dante through.

Nah, we'll never again see a perfect storm like that. The match took place on LUEshi's birthday and we randomly happened to have stats topic 402 at the same time, complete with every whiny allergic-to-fun crybaby on the entire planet popping in to prove ad infinitum why they will die virgins.

Best stats topic of all time, with 1000 being 1a on the list.

To be fair Sonic was cutting 99 and 96 before a lead change, big difference to little chips of 10-20 that are usually typical around lead changes. Some cutting speeds you just can't stall. Although he did go 99-96->68<-85 so they uh tried.

I think my favorite stats topics are the beginning of Phoenix/Magus/Bomberman/Crash, the first round and semifinal L-Block matches, Pikachu/Leon/Dante/Amaterasu, and Frog/Crono's comebacks in 2007 and 2008. Board vote reactions are always fun to see, and Frog's and Crono's comebacks were just amazing.

No Lopen is pretty much right (WHAT ELSE IS NEW). Barring a tidal wave like Master Chief > DK or Sonic > Crono, there is always a stall once the tie finally happens.
