Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. I guess Nook/Redd are the favorites at the moment. Based on the current
percentage, Link would have to beat Cloud with 55.48%+ for Layton/Paolo

Hey,
I'm impressed by FF7's day vote here. Kratos is more a second half
character I think and yet FF7 will finish almost at almost exactly the
same %age they had at noon. Maybe the lessening proportion of votes coming from the ASV from earlier years means it's not as much of a liability for FF7 any more, and their SNV strength is slightly more relevant than before. Kratos/Zeus
is going nearly even with Cloud/Sephiroth with the ASV. That's a bit
of surprise to me, as Kratos/Zeus had no problem winning the ASV over

You guys think we'll get Pac-Man > Crono in the stats this contest? I certainly don't. Also the more I thought about it, the more I've come to believe that Samus/Ridley's path this contest is essentially a retread of Metroid Prime's path last contest. To elaborate, Metroid Prime was coming off of three matches which were not unanimously labelled as overperformances, and we also thought that it might be weak due to its horrendous showing in BGE2009, so many of us thought, to the very end, that Half-Life 2 had a chance at pulling off the upset. Sounds like the same situation with many of us believing that the Bosses have a chance at pulling off the upset here. Summary: Samus will squeak past The Bosses before losing the round afterwards. Also I thought about Samus's rivalry vs. Sonic's rivalry, and man, that's just utter chaos (no reference to the blue liquid monster intended!. On the one hand, Sonic's rivalry is more important to his series than Samus's is to her series, but on the other hand, Ridley would eat Robotnik for breakfast in a contest match (forget about the acrobatic blue hedgehog being 0-2 against the acrobatic blue woman - so much blue!), and the Sonic series has a penchant for disappointment while the Metroid series has more of a penchant for impressing. Argh. Would probably just pick Sonic's rivalry because I would vote for it over Samus's. Then watch the Nintendo SFF kill Sonic's rivalry. Oh well, I don't care, I'd still take Sonic's rivalry to beat Samus's. --- Currently Playing - StarCraft: Brood War |

Speaking of Crono, I've noticed that the only rivalries featuring strong characters that were fodderized were Leon's and Luigi's (also maybe Commander Shepard's). The only conclusion I can draw is that even though people may not care much for actual rivalries like Crono/Lavos and Ness/Giygas, they perceive such rivalries as representing their overall games. It probably doesn't help that Chrono Trigger and Earthbound are JRPGs (a genre where plot tends to take center stage), and that Lavos and Giygas are plastered all over those games' storylines even though those games' protagonists never encounter them until the end of the game. Heck, Samus/Ridley could be a souped-up version of such a thing. I could counter by saying that people don't play Metroid games for plot (at least, I hope no one does! After Other M's undeserved negative reception among fans, I really have to question myself about that, though), but that's a series that lives and dies off of its hardcore fans, who surely pay attention to the series' overarching plot. YOU may like FF8 but everyone else hates it because it was basically a soap-opera. Soul Calibur is a well-respected fighting series. SC wins but it might be closer than expected DMC wins easily. Sora almost lost to Adolf Hitler last round Mortal Kombat wins easily. When was the last time anyone played Mega Man? 20 years ago? --- BANKAI! |

Match XLVI: (6) Pac-Man/Blinky vs. (2) Solid Snake/Liquid Snake Previous Round Crash Bandicoot/Dr. Neo Cortex – 36.49% Pac-Man/Blinky – 63.51% Solid Snake/Liquid Snake – 58.77% Crono/Lavos – 41.23% Analysis Pac-Man and Blinky were able to impress against Crash and Cortex while the Snakes were not very impressive against Crono and Lavos. Of course that doesn’t mean much as Solid and Liquid should have no problem taking this match with ease. It is pretty rare to see an entrant vastly out do their previous round performance though. I think some people are overestimating the blowout for this match. While Pac-Man has collapsed against strong characters based on his match against Cloud it seems to be more along the lines of iconic Nintendo like characters. I guess you could argue that Solid Snake is iconic, but most people seem to only care about Solid Snake after Metal Gear Solid was released. Pac-Man isn’t fodder and the pair could bring in some joke votes with Blinky being in the poll. Solid Snake should do well, but it won’t be enough to make anyone feel confident in that they have a chance in the next round, but that was always going to be a long shot.
